How much you cared

"It's Pidge you know that." She brushed it off jokingly.

"That's was your cover name. I know that since you said it was your nickname Matt gave you."

"Lance listen, it's late."

"No. Don't try to change the subject. I deserve to know don't I? We're teammates."

"I'm leaving." She turned around heading out the door, but Lance had stopped her by grabbing her wrist.

"I'm only asking for your name." He pleaded.

"What if I don't want to tell you?" She tugged on her arm.

"You don't have a good reason why. It's just a name."

"What. Did. You. Say."

"Pidge I know your secretive about this kind of stuff, but you an trust me." His voice was trying to sound calm and reassuring.

"I have a reason for it being like that."

"Oh really what is it?! Cause this whole time you kept to yourself, not telling anyone about how you felt until you finally cracked." He was trying to be as quiet as he can, but at the same time yell at her.

"Have you ever been bullied Lance?"

"Yeah one time when I was younger in Cuba."

"Well I've been bullied my whole life. When I was living in Italy and in America. Other than the harassment that came from school I loved being with my brother. But you know what he's gone plus my dad. My name brings back memories from the times I was bullied and loved and honestly I don't ever want to go back to that. When I'm alone sometimes I have vivid memories of what they called and did to me." She chuckled. "I guess I'm still that weird nerd from middle school." She turned her head away from Lance. He could obviously tell that she was hurting and this was a topic she rarely shared with anyone.

"I'm sorry Pidge I didn't know, it's not my place anymore to bug you about it." He let loose on her arm.

"Did you still want to know my name?"

"Not if it hurts you."

"What no! I'm perfectly fine." She beamed up. This really did make Lame upset, seeing Pidge hide away her emotions as if they aren't important. He's done that before and once he even had a mental break down, he can't see that happened to her. "Since I got what I needed off my chest, I guess it'd be fine to tell you."

"Pidge you don't have to."

"Katie."

"What?"

"My name is Katie. Katie Holt." She headed out the door.

"But why would you tell me that?" He whispered almost inaudible but she still heard.

"I don't know, I had to tell somebody, just don't tell anybody else. Also don't call me by it. Ever." She gave him a stern glare meaning she was serious. Pidge was in no state to hear her name again and hearing the full version would only rip her to shreds.

"Why." I dont know, but something pushed Lance to ask her. He should've realized that asking her such a question would only cause her more pain, but he wanted to know honestly.

"Because I can't. I can't hear my name ever again, or at least I don't want to." And that was it, she had left back in to her room leaving Lance in a daze.

Katie, so he was right. Her name was Katherine. He wanted to say it, scream it out loud, though he'd surely be hated and probably drop kicked for it.

As for Pidge well she didn't know what to do with herself. She couldn't cry, her eyes wouldn't shed one tear. So she did what she does best. She curled up into a ball on her bed, pulling the ends of her hair down.

"It's because I'm not Katie anymore. I will never go back to that and I most definitely won't go back to Katherine." She shivered at the sound of hearing her birth name, she didn't have a good history with it and she wasn't going to open up that wound any further. Without saying to much, Sam Holt wasn't her first father. Her birth farther was absent in her life and for the time that he was there he was abusive. So when her mom got a divorce and remarried, Katherine was called Katie and soon after Pidge by her brother.

She couldn't fall asleep, she'd just have her reoccurring nightmares of Kenneth. So she stayed up all night till the morning rose, or whatever morning was in space.

She didn't leave her room either, not even for Hunk's legendary breakfast, Allura's pep talks, Keith's training, or even when Space Dad came to get her out.

"This is my fault."

"You did nothing wrong Lance, I just want to be alone."

"I dug up memories that I shouldn't have."

"You did it without realizing. It's not the first time, I'm fine."

"I've done this before?"

"Not exactly, but at the party I felt the same way."

"You remembered?"

"Keith told me. This isn't the time for that anyway, just leave."

"No. I won't leave until you come out."

"There's nothing you can do that will make me come out."

"Then I'll say it." Lance knew this was rude to her, but she needed to come out. Pidge's eyes widened.

"You wouldn't." Her voice was weary and she was honestly shocked. She finally thought Lance understood a bit of her.

"I'm sorry." He genuinely was and was on the bridge of crying.

"Lance please, don't do this."

"Come out, Katie."

"No." It didn't faze her as much as it usually would though it still felt terrible.

"Then if you won't come out." She knew exactly what he meant.

"Lance I'm done being nice, don't you dare say that name! I'll do worse than just stay in this room!"

"No you won't." She went silent. "I'm going to say it now." Now Pidge felt like crying. He took in a deep breath before saying it.

"Katherine?" Pidge started sobbing, all these memories that she tried to get over kept spewing back. She knew he hated her, her birth father wanted a boy other than Matt and instead he got a girl. He hated it and he made sure she'd know, he never went to her school plays or anything that involved her, he only went to Matt's. At first it bothered her, but she got used to it until he started hurting her. Of course he never did it in front of Matt or her mom so they never knew. This secret had been stuck with Pidge since she was young and Matt believed it was bullies up to the point where it actually was bullies when they moved from Italy. Pidge was screaming now.

Shiro and the others came running it asking Lance what happened.

"I just- I didn't mean to."

"What did you do?" Shiro got concerned.

"I said her name." Lance slid down the wall, his back pushed to it. He was crying as well, his hands were pulled up to his face. The paladins shared confused glances.

Her name.
