Chapter 6
The second Artemis was able to walk around the house in the sunlight without throwing up, Steven concluded she was fully healed and therefore had to meet everyone in town. She barely made past the beach.
Walking back, she mumbled, "You were pulling too fast." He shrugged his shoulders. "My bad."
Pearl called out, "Steven! Artemis!" The two turned around, finding the three warriors pacing faster towards them. "It's great to see you out of the house."
The girl gave a slight chuckle. "It's great to be out of there. Got stuffy." A soft nose poked her back, straightening it. "Speak of the devil." Steven chuckled. "It's just Lion. Again. Lion, leave Artemis alone. She's a friend." The feline sniffed her gem shards, and took off the second she turned around.
It was always like this most of the time. It'd poke, sniff, and leave. Except it left as soon as she turned around. That was the only true weird thing about it. Steven furrowed his eyebrows a little. Really weird.
Turning back to the gems, he smiled. "What's up?" "Well, it's great (and rather convenient) that you're healing well, Artemis. However, unless you're leaving Earth, you'll be needing a place to stay.", Pearl explained. Garnet gave a silent nod in agreement. "Yeah, and we've already picked out a few places for you. The bottom of the ocean, a Kindergarten, heck I found this really nice cliff. The bottom looks great. Might even look better from down there, you should totally check sometime.", Amethyst remarked, earning glares from everyone, even Lion.
Steven started to rub his hands behind his back. It was seldom done, only when he was mad. Artemis noticed and mumbled to him, "It's alright Steven, calm down a little." He put his hands down, soothed by her voice. Looking back at Artemis, he was in a puzzle as to what she'd do. If there's anything he's learned about her, it's that no one can get anything about her. She was cryptic, and an utter mystery.
To everyone's surprise, she gave a small chuckle, that slowly got louder. It was the first time she'd laughed, and it was so loud, it earned a few people's attention. Mostly boys, including Steven. A small blush crept to his cheeks, one he attempted to repress. "Amethyst, that's hilarious."
The purple gem waved her arms toward the girl, yelling at the other two gems, "See?? She got the joke. Just like I said." "I'm honestly surprised I'm the only one who did.", Artemis claimed, placing an arm on Amethyst's head. "You even managed to get Lion on that one."
Artemis and Amethyst hit it off at first sight; to everyone's surprise. They developed a playful relationship, often nagging each other as siblings do. Nonetheless, no one had a problem with it. As long as they didn't go rampaging, the two were shrugged off.
Getting serious for a second, Artemis thought aloud, "I'm probably gonna stay," Steven threw his arms up in victory in the background, "but I see your point. How far away can I be?", she asked. "What about that building up there?"
"That old lighthouse? Sure, you can live there. It hasn't been used in ages.", Steven explained awfully chirpy. He was more than happy to have her live so close. Amethyst noticed his change in tone and made that eyebrow wiggle at him. He pretended to ignore it.
Glancing behind him, he saw about 5 boys giving Artemis a good look down. Steven gave them a sharp glare, trying to appear as threatening as possible. Maybe it worked, maybe it was the Lion, he really didn't know. Didn't care much either. As long as they left Artemis alone.
