Chapter 10

She sat by the window, flipping through the English dictionary. This language, it was so confusing; she could barely understand what it meant.

Artemis sighed, setting the book down and looking out the window. The sun's heat touched her skin through the glass. The gem leaned against it. She liked the feeling.

It really was a beautiful legacy; and reflected the head liberator. So colorful, so bright, so warm...Shame it's going soon.

She didn't really believe the whole 'bubbled cluster' event. No gem could make a bubble that big without serious permanent strain; it was impossible. But....that being said....she had believed a lot of things were impossible.

Artemis ran a hand through her hair in thought. As if reading her mind, the shards started to glow, forming a dagger in the grip. The hand moved the weapon around, casually examining it. Artemis didn't think much of the weapon; it meant nothing to her at that point. Her thumb gently pressed against the edge, but removed the weapon at the sound of her door opening.

Steven excitedly entered without a second thought, Connie anxiously following behind. "We should've knocked first.", she warned as looking around.

The light house seemed bright during the daytime; well kept and clean. But had a lot of open space for just one person. "Nah, she doesn't care.", Steven shrugged.

He had that glow again; the same one from that training. She noticed it before, but didn't say anything. The girl didn't want to come off as jealous....not that she was or anything. Stupid.

It wasn't like he'd notice or anything. Steven was still her friend, and that's all they seem to be, despite everything. Heh, who was she kidding? He's too oblivious to be interested in her. There's a reason he still looks the way he is.

"Your friend does have a point.", someone called out. Her voice was projectful, powerful, with a little bit of sass. Connie looked up, surprised to see someone leaning against the railway. Definitely looked like a gem, but dressed pretty casual, to be honest. The girl cocked her head in confusion. To be honest, she really didn't know what to think of this.

Artemis slid down the railway, casually landing on her feet. Steven cleared his throat and stepped in between them. "Connie, this is Artemis. She's a new friend! Artemis, this is my best friend Connie.", he introduced. Without thinking, Connie puffed up her chest in defense. She walked up and held out a hand to shake.

Artemis looked at her hand confused, unsure of what to do. Steven grabbed her hand and positioned it to shake. Artemis grabbed her hand, but seemed confused. There was something quirky about her; it was kinda funny.

Connie shook her hand with a smile. The look on Artemis' face was amusing: It was like a light bulb in her head went off. "Nice to...meet you.", the girl murmured.

Connie tilted her head. There was such a confident attitude not two minutes ago. Why did she change?

The girls let go and warily eyed each other, much to Steven's obliviousness. He stood to the side, smiling to himself. He seemed to just beam being in the same room as Artemis. Not to mention, he was happy that they seemed to get along.

Come to think of it. Connie looked back and forth between the two. Maybe it was just her, but the two looked somewhat similar. The girl blinked once, twice. Nope, she still saw it.

"Well, I knew you were excited to meet her.", Steven gestured to Artemis. "And....", he trailed off. Connie remembered what they were actually there for. "Oh yeah! My parents really want to meet you, so, if you're willing-" "Would you like to have dinner with us?", Steven interrupted with a slight blush.

Connie looked over at him, slightly betrayed. The way he made it sound, it was like he was asking her out. Oh well, might as well just learn to accept it.

Artemis jolted back, a little surprised. "Uh, uh, sure.", she stuttered with a little nod. Steven beamed, grabbing Connie's hand. "Great! See you later!", he called off as he ran outside.

As Steven watched Connie walk inside her house, he beamed brightly. He threw his fists in the air, pumping with excitement. "SHE SAID YES!!!", the boy exclaimed. Lion rolled his eyes, walking back.

Steven rolled into Lion's mane, accidentally going into the dimension. Shrugging his shoulders, the teen walked towards Rose's hill, unintentionally stepping on a photo.

The curious boy picked it up; it was an ultrasound. An ultrasound of what was presumed to be him and....something else. Running out of air, he ran out of the mane and landed on the wooden floor of his house.

"Hi Steven!", Pearl greeted first. Her stature was joyful, yet tense. "So, how did it go?", Amethyst asked. "She said yes!!", he yelled. Garnet smiled; Greg chuckled as well. "Hey stchuball, whatcha got there?", he asked, looking at the photo.

"Oh, just this.", Steven casually handed the photo to Greg. He seemed shocked, before calming down. "Wow, it's been years since I've seen this thing.", he remarked as he inspected it. "Jeez, 2002. I feel old!"

Steven chuckled with all of them. "Hey, what's that?", Steven asked, pointing to the "thing" he saw earlier.

Greg suddenly tensed up, looking to the gems for help. Pearl stuttered before answering, "That's, uh, you! Before you emerged from Rose's" "-I know that. I'm talking about that.", Steven interrupted, pointing to what he saw. It was a barely seen round object, just being held by baby Steven.

His dad tried not to sweat. "What?", he lied, pretending not to see it. "I just see you, schuball." Garnet walked over, adjusting her glasses. "Only little Steven." Her calm voice had a tone as cool as ice.

Taking back the picture, the boy blinked. "Oh. Maybe it's just me.", he mumbled, walking back outside.
