"As you can see, Sparks enterprise-"
My phone vibrated, interrupting me. The only people who had this number were Paige, Chloé and Alex.
Both Alex and Paige knew that I had a meeting. The only option left was Chloé and Chloé never calls except when there's something important.
"Is everything alright Mr. Sparks?"
I stared at the business men watching me with a confused look, debating whether I should answer or not. These were really important business men and they came all the way from Japan for this meeting.
Fuck it.
I hurriedly got the phone out of my jacket and opened up the line, bringing the phone to my ear.
"Dylan. I was supposed to meet Paige at Lily's and when I got there, she wasn't there. But I found her phone which was broken and her bracelet."
"What? Are you sure?"
"Yes."
"I'm coming."
The colour drained from my face and my heart raced at the realization.
My Paige had been kidnapped.
This was all my fault. I couldn't keep her safe.
What I did to keep her safe wasn't enough. I was a selfish bastard for staying despite knowing. But when she kissed me, all of my fears, problems and worries vanished; the only thought was her and passion. I was deeply in love with her. I stayed despite knowing about Montero but I thought I could keep her safe until I got them caught.
"Excuse me ladies and gentlemen, but something came up," I said before rushing out of the room leaving them looking at me with wide eyes.
"You can't walk out on them. You'll lose the contract. It's a billion dollar deal Mr. Sparks. It's really important to the company."
"I don't fucking care. Paige is much more important to me than some business meeting."
"But Sir-"
"Show them the way out," I interrupted as I dialed Alex's number.
"Paige's missing. I'm coming."
I closed the line and got into the car, rushing to get Chloé.
I was so lost in thought that I didn't notice Chloé get into the car, until she spoke.
"I didn't tell her parents yet. I don't know what to say," Chloé said as she got into the car.
"Dylan, I'm worried and scared. I wonder what might be going on."
"I-I'll do my best. Whatever it takes to get her back."
"I couldn't get to her in time. Will anything happen to her?"
"Nothing will happen to her. I'll get her before they do."
Chloé then got the broken phone and the bracelet and handed them to me.
The bracelet I gave her. I held them up and smelt her signature scent as I closed my eyes and sighed, leaning on the steering wheel.
My baby.
Three months. I kept her away from him for just three months.
How useless could I get? How couldn't I do it?
"Don't worry you'll find her," she said as she rubbed my back.
I nodded and raced to Alex's house.
"But why?" Chloé asked, once we got into Alex's house.
Alex and I exchanged glasses. There was only one person who would do that- Montero.
I dialed Montero's number after we had searched for it.
I waited in anticipation for him to answer. Every single beep I heard made my heart race faster.
"Montero," I breathed, once he finally picked up.
"It's about time, Dylan."
"What do you want?"
"The files and all other evidence."
I looked at Alex and Chloé and nodded.
I would give up everything for her.
"We have something or rather someone who would make you get it for us," he then said before I could answer.
I felt a clump form at the bottom of my throat. She was the reason for my happiness.
I was close to getting things done, but I had failed.
They got my Paige.
"Say something my love," he said.
Nothing.
"Speak," he gritted.
Fuck. The torture.
"Leave her!" I boomed.
I then heard her scream.
"Stubborn bitch," I heard Montero say through the phone.
The blood drained from my face as my jaw and all the muscles in my body tightened.
"Give her the phone!" I ordered.
"Paige?"
"Dylan, I'm alright," she immediately said, her voice weak and faint.
"I'm coming for you, baby. Hold on tight," I assured her.
"How cute, both of you," Montero said, sarcasm dripping from his words.
"Fuck you, Montero."
"Flawless, beautiful. A perfect match for you-"
"Don't touch her."
"Untouched yet," he said, emphasizing the word untouched.
"I already have in mind the things I could do to her. You better hurry lover boy."
"I'll be there. Just don't hurt her. I'll get everything you want."
"I couldn't keep her safe," I whispered as I closed the line.
"What do you mean?" Chloé asked, confused. "What did you do? How did you put her in trouble?"
"Dylan, it's okay. You can save her, just don't panic. I have a plan," Alex said coming from his room, holding a bunch of things.
Alex threw a bag to me while he prepared himself. We both had a plan in mind and I hoped it would work out the way I wanted.
Hold on Paige. I'm coming.
•••
I walked in and came alone, as requested. I took a deep breath, preparing myself for everything, except seeing her hurt or getting tortured.
The second I stepped in, I heard clapping.
"Welcome. Welcome," Montero mocked as he gestured me in, a wide smile plastered on his face.
I immediately scanned the room for that one person who mattered.
There she was.
"Paige," I muttered softening as I let out a breath.
Something inside me broke when I saw her tears course down her cheeks. This was the first time I saw her this helpless and I couldn't do a thing. This was the first time she was in such a situation and it was all because of me. She had always been strong and smiling, but this time she was quiet, scared and teary.
My Paige.
I had to be strong.
"Here you have me and all the evidence...let her go," I said, gritting my teeth.
They had guns and the only thing I was scared of was Paige getting hurt.
"Dylan go...Please," she pleaded as her voice cracked.
I died inside.
Guards surrounded us as they watched us like a hawk.
"Untie her."
"Not yet," he said as he lighted up his cigarette.
"I got the money and all the evidence. You can leave her," I suggested.
"Pass over the gun," he said as he slowly blew out the smoke, smiling.
I then removed the gun and slid it between his legs, keeping my gaze on Paige as she watched me attentively with fear.
"Richard Sparks four months ago," Montero started, making my arms go rigid and my muscles tightening. He was using every weakness I had, against me, to break me down.
I closed my eyes and looked up, trying to block my mind from the anger and all the thoughts that started clouding.
He took my father away and now he had Paige.
"I fabricated with the car he was supposed to use to leave to the airport. But your father, just like you was smart and attentive. He felt something was wrong and so switched cars. He was supposed to get into an accident and into the hospital instead of actually dying."
It was all an accident. Montero never killed my father.
I looked at him shocked by the truth my father actually died naturally, his death wasn't planned.
"Why are you saying all of this to me right now?"
"I just made it seem that way to scare you. Life isn't on your side Dylan, first your mother then your father and now your first true love. I almost feel sorry for you."
A tear trailed down my cheek slowly as I fell to my knees. Everything was mentally exhausting. I couldn't take it any longer. Weakness overshadowed and I couldn't control it; he knew how to pull the right strings. I was losing control, losing my sane. I was letting him win.
"Weakness. You are weak, Dylan. You've lost this time."
"No Dylan, don't give up. I believe in you," Paige yelled.
"Dylan...Dylan...we didn't know she made you weak. We would have taken her months ago," he said, holding her hair and raising her head.
My Paige, the only thing I had. The only reason I'm trying. My happiness, my love, my weakness, my world.
I had to be strong, I had to be dominant over my emotions and feelings. She believed in me and that was what mattered.
I had to get myself back together so we'd make it out together. I wanted her, I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her and have kids from her. I wanted us and that's what I came for: to fight for her.
"Not this time," I growled, as I slammed my hands on the ground and got up. Paige gave a triumphant smile.
"I'm not sure if I'll make you witness her death or make her witness yours. What do you say?"
"Dylan...," she cried as she wiggled on her chair, more tears coursing down.
I couldn't try to fight them, because of Paige. All I could do was wait and hope everything would go according to plan.
Oh God please don't let them kill her, not her.
"Oh girl," he said, laughing as he raised his gun and pointed it at her.
"Don't!" I warned, fear lacing through my voice as I held up the evidence in my hand, threatening him.
"Dad?" A young guy walked in, surprised and Montero stiffened.
"Julien wh-what are you doing here?"
"Paige?" his eyes widened as he rushed to her and wiped her tears.
He knew her?
"What is this?" he asked looking at his father, confused.
"It's not what you think it is, son. Please let me explain."
"Why is she tied and what is all this?" Julien asked with exasperation.
"I-I didn't know you knew her," Montero stammered.
Julien was Montero's weakness.
I immediately held Julien by the neck and pointed the gun at him.
"I'm not going to kill you," I whispered to Julien as I looked at Paige, making sure she was alright.
"Drop your guns or I'll kill him."
The guards hesitated, but obeyed when Montero told them to.
"Please leave my son out of this. It's between me and you," Montero stammered as he walked towards me.
"Untie her," I ordered the guards and they quickly obliged.
"Then why did you bring Paige into this?"
"Dad, what is he talking about?"
"You see we've all got weaknesses Montero. Paige's mine and Julien's yours. You can't imagine how happy I felt when he walked through this door- the same way you felt when you found out about Paige."
"Don't hurt him, please."
"Just the way you were going to hurt her. I'm not exactly sure how I'd do it? What do you say?"
"Don't kill," Paige cried as she fell down to her knees, tears rolling. I had to use every will power in me not to run towards her and pick her up.
I looked at the watch on my hand, waiting in anticipation, still holding the gun to Julien's head.
"I love you," I mouthed to Paige and she nodded as her eyes met mine.
This was it.
Do it right for Paige.
The door burst open right on time and Alex along with some other armed guys entered.
I then immediately raised my gun upwards and shot the ceiling when I saw Alex reach Paige.
Pushing Julien behind the couch to shield him, I shoot off the guns away from two of the guard's hands.
The policemen, reporters and head officers filled the room capturing Montero and his men.
"You see Montero, I always win. Kidnapping Paige just made me fight a little harder." I smirked as I tapped his back.
"Where are you taking my dad?" Julien hollered to the policemen.
"Your dad is under arrest for fraud, murder, and illegal handling," I replied.
"Dad," Julien gasped as he looked at his father.
"I'm sorry son for betraying you and not being a good father. Please forgive me."
Alex and I walked outside, leaving Julien and his father to sort things out, to speak with the head officer and thank him.
"Alex, I'm going to check on Paige. Excuse me gentlemen."
I excused myself and headed back inside to my Paige.
"True love is the best thing to find and you both are really lucky," I heard Julien tell Paige as she sat on the couch.
"Thank you Julien. I hope you'll find your own true love."
"If Dylan ever messes do know I'll always be available for you," he chuckled.
"That would never happen," I chimed in as I walked towards them.
"I'm sorry about your father Julien and I'm sorry you had to find out this way."
"It's okay. Life is never fair. Sorry for the trouble. Take care," he said, before shaking my hand and walking away.
"Oh baby," I said as I leaned down and hugged her tight.
"I'm glad we're both okay."
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry," I whispered against her neck as she hugged me and sobbed.
"This is all my fault. I shouldn't have been so selfish to stay or selfish not to give it up."
"None of this matters as long as we could be together."
"I'm sorry," I kept repeating.
"None of this is your fault, Dylan. Stop saying sorry," she pulled out as she wiped off her tears.
"If you had left, we wouldn't have been together now. You saved me and we're safe now. That's all that matters," she said as she cupped my face.
"I love you," I said as she kissed my eyes, calming me.
"Don't ever think that leaving was the better option."
"He's gone now. Nothing could get to you anymore and I promise to give up all my secret missions."
Alex nodded at me and gave a warm smile, telling me that everything had gone to plan.
She hugged me tight and I carried her, taking her to the car, leaving Alex to care of everything with the policemen.
"Let's go home baby."
