Chapter 31.
* * * *
I cannot BELIEVE I'm doing this. Why am I so stupid to do something this dangerous? It's like being in Jurassic World all over again, there's a guarantee to get eaten. But not by a dinosaur, per se. But by a giant prehistoric fish. Although I must admit, I've always wanted to go scuba diving and now I actually HAVE to. I saw the shark cage that Suyin is in, thankfully no Megalodons in sight.
"Kid, can you hear me?" I heard Jonas' voice in my mask, microphone.
"Loud and clear, Jonas. So where is the source of power exactly?" I ask.
"Directly below you, around 600 feet down at the bottom." He replied.
"Copy that." I say.
I looked straight down, it was much darker than I anticipated. Either Megalodon could be down there, it's all on me then. I take a deep breath and began swimming down towards the darkness. What's creepy is the fact that there is NOTHING swimming around, not even the small fish that swim with sharks that eat the bacteria off of them. The giant sharks are nearby, that's for certain. It's giving me a strong feeling of unease, but as long as I keep slow and smooth movements they shouldn't be attracted to me.
The further down I swam, the darker it got and the underwater pressure began getting slightly more constricting. Not by much, but little by little. I can't even see the bottom, that's what's very concerning. Anything could be hiding down here, even the giant prehistoric fish. But my adrenaline could also attract the predators, so I began thinking about my Autobot friends. My fear began to fade away and I felt my drive for why I'm doing this spike.
Almost to the bottom, a light then flicked on outside my mask. It was lighting up a decent amount of area, but not much either. Ooh, automatic light. Handy. But it doesn't help much that there's not much visibility.
"Okay Jonas, almost to the bottom and I can barely see anything around me. No sign of Megalodon, thank God." I said into the microphone.
"Fantastic, nothing up here either. But you should have a light on your mask, it should light up when in darkness." He told me.
"Oh it's on and works great, but I can't see amything past 10 maybe 20 feet." I replied.
"Just be careful and find what you're looking for." He said.
I finally reached the bottom, seeing the grainy sand along with several types of coral. If it were lit down here, it would be much prettier and EASIER TO SEE. Swimming along the bottom, I then saw small octopi and schools of clownfish, blueface angelfish and blue tangs. Lots of Nemo and Dory swimming around. Although didn't expect them to be swimming around this deep and in this kind of dark.
The schools and octopi then began to swim off towards who knows where, something compelled me to follow them. So I began swimming after them, they were panicked. Large predators must be nearby, although the octopi are predators to these fish. So it could be either Megalodon or maybe a smaller shark. Both are entirely possible. The fish and octopi then swam into what looked like a cave, it had a decent sized opening that would allow me to swim in as well. But keeps the larger predators such as the Meg out.
I followed the fish and octopi in, this would provide some protection against the sharks. I carefully swim around some stalagmites and stalagtites that protruded from the ceiling and floor of the underwater cave. The cave tunnel then started getting much more open, and I could see light the further I swam in. The tunnel then opened into a huge underwater cavern full of bioluminescent corals and plants. Greens, purples, blues, reds, you name it. The plants were glowing brightly through the entire cavern, my light actually turned off as I could see everything.
Several species of fish were swimming around, even swimming right past me like I wasn't even there. This has to be the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen, it could bring a tear to my eye actually. This entire ecosystem in such a confined area, there were even some sharks swimming around. But they were nurse sharks, docile and not aggressive, along with not having teeth. They are not a threat. I began swimming through the underwater paradise, looking at all the plants and fish.
Then I noticed that the gems on the relic were starting to glow, that must mean the gem is nearby. A gem in this beautiful place? Understandable. Natural beauty at its finest. I kept swimming, the bright colors around me calming me a great deal. Colors are what calm me, I love the variety and vibrance of bright colors. I continue looking around for the gem, but it may be a little hard considering the amount of colors.
Wait, the gems glow whenever I'm near a stray gem. I hold my arm with my sister on it out, the gems glowing brightly. Slowly swimming forward, the gems glow started to fade so I stopped and turned around, the gems glow started getting brighter once again. So if going forward makes them dim, and back makes them brighter, then I should swim back a ways. I backtrack until the gems glow is brighter than before, moving it both left and right. Both directions resulted in the glow dimming.
"So it's not on the left or right, but maybe it's...DOWN!" I exclaim and point the relic towards the floor.
The gems glowed brighter in that direction, so I began swimming down. The brighter corals were down there as well as grainy sand. I reached the cave floor and began looking for the gem, the relic assisting me. I kept searching for a bright glowing orange gem, but nothing so far. The gems glowed at their brightest when I was close to a nearby eel cave. I carefully swam towards it, cautious if the eel was nearby, or what kind of eel it could be. Possibly a moray eel, they're mean bastards.
I looked into the eel cave, thankfully nobody was home, and there it was. The bright orange glowing gem was just sitting there peacefully, untouched. I reached in and grabbed the gem, pulling it out and gazing upon it.
"Woohoo! Found It!" I said excitedly.
"You found it?" I heard the short mans voice come through, but his tone was panicked.
"Hell Yeah! Wait, you sound scared. What's wrong?" I ask.
"Megalodon is attacking and attempting to swallow Suyins cage, and she's in grave danger of running out of air." He almost yelled.
Suyin! I quickly place the gem into the relic and began swimming back to the cave exit as fast as I could. Because of this, once I entered the cave tunnel, I managed to scrape my right arm against a stalagmite. It ripped the wetsuit slightly and a small amount of blood began to float freely into the seawater around me. And the salty water made my little scrape sting like hell, but that means it will heal quicker as salt water dries wounds out.
But that raises another problem, sharks can smell a drop of blood from miles away in water. So not only will bith Megalodons smell it, but other sharks too. I swam through the cave tunnel much more cautiously and made it back outside into the darkness, my light turning back on. I look up to see the boat as well as the shark cage Suyin was in, and Jonas swimming down towards it.
But something down here makes me feel really uneasy, like something big is nearby. One of the two Megalodons must be nearby, no possible way I can outswim that prehistoric beast.
"Youngling, SWIM NOW." I heard the male voice from before, he sounded concerned.
"You don't have to tell me twice mister." I thought.
I began swimming straight upwards quickly, but not in a panicked manner. Swimming faster back towards the surface, thanks to these flippers on. It's like something is underneath me.
"Young one, faster! He is here!" He said.
"He? What do you-" Before I could finish my mental sentence, I felt something large grasp both of my lower legs and pull me back down into darkness.
