Chapter 6

Michael P.O.V

At six-forty-five I hop in my truck and drive to Charlie's house. He lives on the edge of town and it will be much easier on his leg if we drove to the movie theater. He lives close to me, but I don't want him to make his leg worse.

Once I'm there, I turn off the truck and hop out. I walk up the porch steps and knock on the door. I wait a few minutes for Charlie to come out. After a few minutes, I knock again. After a moment, I hear a large thud and become worried.

"Just a second!" Charlie yells. He opens the door a couple seconds later and sighs. "Sorry, I fell asleep."

"That's okay, are you ready to go?"

He nods and walks out, locking the front door. I notice that Charlie is limping when he walks. I must have hurt him worse than I thought. I hope he's taking care of it.

"How's your leg?" I ask before I can stop myself.

"What do you mean?" he asks while looking up at me.

"I just noticed that you're limping is all," I lie quickly to cover myself.

"I'm fine, I just slept on it wrong," he lies.

Charlie is lying about his injury. I suppose that's a good thing. The last thing the pack needs is to hear that Charlie was injured by a wolf. That would definitely cause some drama.

I open the passenger door for him and he slowly climbs in. I'm several inches taller than Charlie with two good legs. It's difficult for him to climb in, but he manages. I close the door and walk around to the other side, climbing in easily.

"This is a nice truck," he says softly.

"Thanks. It was my dad's, but I got it when I was sixteen because he never drove it anywhere," I explain, realizing that Charlie probably didn't care.

"That's cool. I never drive my car either. Everything is walking distance."

I start up the truck and back out of his driveway before starting to drive into town. It'll only take a few minutes to get to the movie theater. Hopefully, Charlie's leg won't be hurting him too much.

I park in one of the closer parking spaces so Charlie doesn't have to walk as far. He won't admit that his leg is injured because of a wolf, but I know the truth. I'm the one who caused it, only Charlie doesn't know that.

I want to keep him safe for as long as I can. If I could, I would keep my secret forever. I've liked Charlie since middle school, I was just too scared to admit it. I was too scared of hurting him.

I turn off the truck and grab my keys. I get out of the truck and wait for Charlie. He hops out and his leg nearly crumbles underneath him. I practically have to catch him.

"Thanks," he says softly, taking a deep breath.

"Are you sure you're okay to go? I can take you home if you want," I offer, knowing he must be in pain.

"No, I'm fine," he says, though I don't exactly believe him.

I grab Charlie's hand and walk inside with him. I try not to walk too fast because of his injured leg, but right now I don't think he's noticed. I think he's more focused on the fact that I'm holding his hand. Charlie is so damn cute.

"Do you like horror?" I ask, looking at the board and seeing that a new horror movie is about to start.

"Sure," Charlie says softly.

I buy the tickets and lead us to the snack bar. "Wanna split a popcorn?"

"Sure, but I'm buying," he tells me, taking out his wallet.

"Says who?"

"Says me."

Charlie pays for the snacks and we head back to the theater after getting our ticket stubs. Luckily it's near the front so he won't have to walk as far.

Charlie walks up a few steps and picks a row to sit in. I can tell that his leg is hurting him, even if he doesn't want to admit it. At this point, I'm worried that he needs stitches.

Now we wait for the movie to start. The previews are rather generic and boring. No one actually pays attention to them. They're just a way for the movie theater to make more money.

After a few minutes, the movie starts. I can already tell that I won't find it very scary, but I can't say the same for Charlie.

As soon as the first jump-scare happens Charlie is clinging to my arm. It's pretty cute and gives me an excuse to put my arm around him. After that, he seems to calm down.

The rest of the movie is cheesy horror movie stereotypes that anyone could see coming. It has a stereotypical "everyone dies" ending. It wasn't the worst horror movie I've ever seen, but it wasn't exactly the best.

Charlie and I leave the theater. It started to snow while we were watching the movie. There is supposed to be a rather heavy snowstorm tonight and it has already begun.

"Looks like I better get you home before the road ices over," I say softly, brushing the growing amount of snowflakes off my shoulder.

"Good idea," Charlie says softly, climbing into the passenger's seat.

I get in the truck and start it up. I take caution while driving when it snows because the roads have been known to ice over in the past.

Once we get back to Charlie's house, the snow is really starting to come down. I'll have to get home quickly if I want to avoid when the bottom falls out.

"It's looking pretty bad outside. Maybe you should wait until morning to drive," Charlie suggests softly as I walk him to his door. "There's plenty of room in the garage for your truck."

After a moment, the snow only gets worse. It would be wise to wait out the storm and drive home when the weather looks better.

"That's a good idea, thank you."

I hope I'm not making a bad decision by staying with Charlie.
