Chapter 11

Charlie P.O.V

The day slowly passes and Michael doesn't come back. I try to tell myself that everything is fine, but I want to see Michael again. I'm worried that something is wrong.

I stand in front of the sliding glass door and sigh. The storm has almost completely stopped. There's hardly any snowflakes falling by this time.

The sky is a pitch black that has been dusted over with stars. The sky is quite beautiful at night. There's hardly any pollution to block out the stars. It's one of the few perks of living in a small town.

I turn on the light for the deck and look out to the edge of the forest. I can vaguely see a silhouette near the edge. It isn't human. By the shape, I would have to say it's a wolf. It seems like Mikey the wolf has come back.

I open the door and whistle. The night air is cold and my breath is completely visible. The figure comes closer. Slowly, it trots to the edge of the deck. It is Mikey.

I smile and sit down on the deck. The wood is rather cold from the snow and makes me tense up for a few moments. I've never liked the sudden cold.

Mikey rests his head on my lap and pants happily. I smile and scratch behind his ears, something I know he enjoys. It's cute when he leans his head back for all the attention he can get.

"I'm glad you're back," I tell him, knowing he can't understand me.  "My leg is feeling better too." I point at my thigh that was accidentally scratched.

Mikey looks at my thigh and then up at me before nuzzling my abdomen with his nose. I smile and continue to pet him. Sometimes I like to think that he can understand what I'm saying to him. It would be nice to have someone to talk to for once.

"You make me think of my boyfriend, but don't tell him I said that. I'm not sure he'd like getting compared to a wolf," I say with a small laugh.

The wolf stands up on his hind legs and licks my face. I laugh softly and pet him. He's basically a large dog. He doesn't act like some big bad wolf. He's actually rather docile compared to other predators.

The wind blows harshly and gives me the chills. I pull Michael's jacket tighter around my body. It keeps me warm, but not as warm as the inside. I look back at the door and sigh.

"I should head inside," I tell him before standing.

I walk to the door and head inside. Just as I'm about to close it, Mikey runs in. He sits and looks up at me with a happy expression that makes telling him no impossible.

"You really shouldn't be in here," I remind him.

Mikey pays me no mind and sprawls himself out in front of the couch. I lay down on the couch and pull a blanket over my body. I reach down and rub Mikey's belly, which I can tell he enjoys.

"You might as well be my dog," I say softly, more to myself than to him.

A soft yawn escapes my lips as I'm petting Mikey. I've grown rather tired in the last few hours. The fact that I'm laying on the couch wrapped up in blankets doesn't exactly help my need to sleep either. It really only makes it worse.

"I'm sleepy, Mikey."

My wolf companion yawns and lays his head down on the floor. I grab a pillow for my head to relax on and I'm out like a light.

The sun blasts my eyes when dawn arrives. It forces me to wake up. I slowly sit up and rub my face. Mikey is still asleep in front of the couch. He looks pretty adorable.

I stroke his head gently and watch his ears perk up. He opens his eyes and yawns before shaking out his fur. He's very soft and fluffy.

I get up slowly and walk to the kitchen. The power is still out and prevents me from making any coffee. It is my usual breakfast.

A loud sigh leaves my lips as I look for something else to have for breakfast. I end up with an energy bar and a bottle of water. This is better than nothing.

I sit at the kitchen table while I eat my breakfast. Mikey the wolf lays by my chair. He's obviously still tired because he's already asleep. He just wants to be close to me.

I smile while looking down at him. His sleeping face is so cute. It looks so innocent and sweet. He doesn't look like a predator that can rip animals apart when he sleeps like that. Of course, I know he's just sleeping and is still fully capable of tearing animals apart. He could do so to me if he wanted to. It would be easy. I've let him into my home and interacted with him. I trust him, which is not something I thought I would ever do.

I realize that my lower abdomen suddenly has a dull pain. I don't think much of it at first until it doesn't stop. In fact, it only gets worse. I try to gently massage the area, but that only seems to make it worse.

I bite my lip and groan. Mikey sits up and looks at me. He knows something is wrong and I do too, I just don't know what. I'm not sure why this pain would be occurring. I also don't know why it would hurt in my lower abdomen.

I get up and feel my legs nearly crumble beneath me. I use the counter to try and steady myself, but not even that helps. My head feels light and the room seems to be changing color. Mostly to yellows and oranges, the rest is simply just dark. Then everything goes black.
