Chapter 9 - Kate
March 9, 2013
A week later, I was in Kate's hospital room, and she was still in the coma. The doctors had tried many medicines on her in the past week to help her breathing become normal again and her heart rate to slow down, but nothing has helped. Her body rejected most of them, and the others didn't help at all. The doctors were shocked at how many antibiotics they tried yet failed. They were pretty sure of what was happening. She was dying, they said. I chose not to believe them because I still had faith that Kate would come out of the coma. I was waiting and waiting for her to come out of the coma. The doctors said that if she didn't come out of the coma in the next three days that they would just give up. I didn't want that to happen. I prayed and prayed that they wouldn't let that happen. When they told me, I had an almost mental breakdown..

Flashback~
"Well, Mr. Hood. Your daughter is still doing alright, but it's your girlfriend that were worried about.." He told me.
"What is it? What's wrong with Kate?" I asked, scared to death.
"It's just that her body isn't accepting any antibiotics.. And if she is, they aren't helping her. We can't do much more."
"You have to keep trying! You can't just quit on her!"
"We will try one last antibiotic, and if that doesn't help her after three days, there is nothing else we can do.. I'm sorry."
"What are you saying? You're giving up on her!?"
"We have one last antibiotic to try, Mr. Hood. If she doesn't come out of the coma in the next three days, there is nothing we can do to help her.. Again, I'm really sorry."
"You can't just give up on her... She means everything to me.." I was bawling my eyes out by that time.
"We can't do anything more after this... Sorry," he said, patted my back, and left the room. I walked over to Kate, and hugged her. They weren't taking her away from me. No way..
~Flashback Over~
It was terrible to hear them say that. They told me that earlier that morning. She had already been started on the antibiotics. She had three days to wake up out of the coma.
"Babe, please just wake up. For me and our little girl.. She's doing better now, and she'll need a mummy. You can't let go on me. You can't let the doctors give up on you... Please, please, please just wake up," I cried onto her.
Luke, Ashton, and Michael then walked in. Michael walked over to me.
"Mate, I heard what the doctors are going to do.. I'm sorry," he said, with tears in his eyes too. I looked up to see that Ashton and Luke were crying too.
"No." I told them, "They are not giving up on Kate, not on my watch. She is my everything, and I need her. Our baby needs her too. I haven't named her yet because I want to wait for Kate's opinion, but now the doctors say I might not ever get her opinion... That can't happen."
"Cal, they have to. They can't do anything else, mate. It has to be done if she doesn't wake up in three days," Luke told me, but no.. I wasn't going to let the doctors do that. Not on my watch. Not ever.
