Chapter 11 - Sam

*Katilyn's POV*

Two days later, I was able to leave the hospital, but I didn't really want to leave because I wanted to stay with Mireyah. I sat in the waiting room most of the time, just thinking. I would talk to Calum every once in a while to ask if he was hungry or maybe what he was thinking. Once, I actually talked to a girl maybe a few years older than me who sat next to me.

"Hi. I'm Sam, what's your name?" She asked.

"I'm Katie, nice you meet you, Sam."

"Nice to meet you! I like your Aussie accent, too." She said, "I was wondering, what are the bruises on your arm from?"

"It's a long story."

"I have time, if you do."

"Okay.. I got in a car crash with my boyfriend and his three friends. My boyfriend and I were banged up pretty bad, and our friends were okay. We both were able to get out of the hospital after a few weeks of being in here."

"Who's your boyfriend?"

"You might know him. Calum Hood from 5 Seconds of Summer."

"Oh my god.. I've heard of them. They're good. You're dating him?"

"Yeah."

"Wow.. Well, why are you still here then, if you're okay and your friends are okay?"

"Well, Calum's and my daughter is in the NICU. I was twenty-two weeks pregnant with her when the crash happened, so they did an emergency c-section on me. She weighed just more than a pound and was almost a foot long. They gave her an 8 percent chance of living. She's still here, but we don't know if she'll make it.."

"Oh, I'm sorry."

"It's alright," I sniffled, "Why are you here?"

"My first baby was born a week ago. She was born at 32 weeks," she said, "But she hasn't been breathing right"

"Oh, I'm sorry."

"It's fine, I guess. They said we might be able to take her home soon."

"That's great."

"Yeah."

We talked for a while, and I told her all about my childhood. She told me how she met her husband, Evan. They had only been married for a year. Our conversation was interrupted by the nurse calling for her.

"Could I see Sam and/or Evan Hooks please?" The nurse called.

"I've got to go," Sam said.

"Okay. Goodbye," I waved to her as she stood up and walked away.

*Sam's POV*

I walked up to where the nurse was that called my name. She told me that she had news about my daughter Abigale. She began with, "I'm sorry, but you won't be able to take your daughter home very soon.."

"What? Why?" I wondered.

"Her breathing still is not normal as it should be. She needs a little more time in here."

"Okay. Um.. Thank you," I tried to keep myself from crying.

"You're welcome."

I was disappointed that I wouldn't be able to take Abigale home.

That evening, the nurse wanted Calum and me. She had news for us about Mireyah, and it was good news.

"Well, we have here that she is getting better," she said, and I sighed of relief, "Her heart is beating correctly now, and her breathing is getting better."

"That is great!" I exclaimed, almost unable to contain my excitement.

"I'm so glad," Calum told me.

"Thank you so much!" I smiled at the nurse.

She smiled back at me, "You're welcome"

We walked back to our seats and sat down. I was so relieved.
