Chapter Twenty Six

Percy

In all honestly, I forgot that mom had a half sister. Different mom. Obviously. Mom got Grandma's last name because they broke up before Mom was born. Grandma remarried a different family like of Jackson's in America and yeah. Mom went back and forth from America to Canada until she was 15 and said she wanted to stay in America.

We've been to Canada once since then.

"I'm gonna kill you." Frank told me. "But not really because you scare the absolute shit out of me."

"Frank," Mom insisted. "That's your cousin! Be nice!'

"It's okay, Emily," Percy assured his... His aunt. "Frank has reason to be afraid of me."

Anyways, we talked with them for just a few minutes before heading back downstairs with our friends.

"It wasn't a monster that tried to kill you guys?" Piper asked. "My dad's alive up there?"

"It's fine," Frank promised the daughter of Aphrodite. "Your dad is up there. Perseus here—"

"If you call me Perseus—"

"Your name is Perseus?" Reyna asked as everyone else, aside Rachel and Nico, started to snicker and laugh.

"And I hate it," I responded. "I thought you guys would know that. How many times would Annabeth yell my name on that ship?"

They shrugged.

"You don't think about it, man," Leo explained. "I never put much thought to it, just thought she assumed Percy was short for Perseus. I just don't assume. I met an Alex once and it wasn't short for anything, so I stopped assuming after I called him Alexander and he told me his name wasn't Alexander."

That was... It was a pretty useless story.

The subject was almost let up, but something came to Hazel.

"Wait," Frank's girlfriend pointed out, "how'd you know his name was Perseus?"

"It's a long story." Frank told her. "You'll find out tomorrow."

We relaxed for the rest of the night and we're awoken around 7 the next day. As I go to school, I'm used to it and got up at 6. Piper was up before me, which seemed insane. Making breakfast.

She didn't know how to make pancakes. And everyone wanted pancakes.

"You don't know how to make pancakes?" I asked the daughter of Aphrodite. "Really?"

"I can't find a decent recipe!" She insisted, looking through a recipe book as I walked over and shut it.

"Well thank the gods I'm here," I told her and put the book on the counter behind us. "Because I'm going to teach you how to make pancakes the Jackson way."

"The Jackson way?"

"Yes."

So I got out two bowls, one for each of us, and made sure we had everything and had Piper just repeat everything I did in making them. I'd put flour in, she put flour in, etc...

Jason came up around 6:45, and just sort of rolled his eyes as I walked Piper through making the second batch of pancakes. Because we had to feed a lot of people today.

A lot of hungry teenagers.

"You cheating on me, Piper?" Jason joked with us. "Your food winning him over?"

"What are you talking about?" Piper asked her boyfriend. "I can't cook. Percys the one walking me through this."

Jason faked a gasp as Frank and Rachel came up.

"Percy," he exasperated. "How could you? After everything we've been through."

"I'm not dying of food poisoning," I told the son of Jupiter, as Emily came down from upstairs. I still think it's weird that I'm related to Frank. On both sides. "It's okay, you can keep Piper. I'm happy with what I have."

Everyone was awake by 7:30, and people started showing up around 9. My parents and Susan were here around 9:30.

My mother just about had a heart attack when she saw her sister and her sisters mom.

"Percy," Leo remarked to me. "I mean, I don't mean be rude, I've never met her before. But is your mom okay?"

"Yeah," I assured him. "She's fine."

She gave Emily a hug and Frank's grandma got a hug from her and of course Frank did and it was nice.

"How does Sally know Frank's mom?" Nico asked me and I realized that I totally blanked on telling him last night.

"I forgot to tell you last night," I explained to my boyfriend. "I'm sorry. Remember the cousin I told you about? We met once."

Nico nodded his head. I've told him a few times about that trip. The only trip outside of New York that we've taken as a family.

"Apparently, and I didn't realize this until Emily showed up yesterday," I told my boyfriend. "Frank is my cousin. Emily's my aunt. It's a weird family. They're half sisters."

As Frank was telling Hazel this she looked at us for a second and something just came to her. She realized something.

"This would make Nico my brother and my cousin." Hazel told her boyfriend. "I don't... What?"

I'm not sure how it happened, but once everyone here and we finished eating, there was a huge debate on who the two best singers in the room was. And the most voted for seemed to be cut between Nico and Jason and then Bianca and Piper. Nico and Bianca just because, you know, they're Italian.

This turned into a competition on their karaoke machine and I'm not a confident singer. But I had to sing no matter what.

I trusted Annabeth to not being back my 2005 self, but she failed me.

And I was brought back to my 13 year old self, singing along to How To Save A Life by The Fray.

Nico

I'm sorry, how can he go from that low to that high in like two beats?

No?

"Is this how you realized you were gay?" Hazel asked me. "because damn."

"I..." I tried to explain. "I've never heard Percy sing before. He lives by the fact that he's a shit singer."

"Um, yeah," Annabeth added on. "I've never heard his voice sing, either. And I was like the second person he met at camp, after Grover. So Grover is our last hope here."

Well, speak of the devil and he appears.

Grover showed up, saying he was passing by and saw Percy's truck. Percy was done singing by then.

"Hey, you lived with him for nine months." Annabeth brought up. " Have you ever heard Percy sing before?"

Grover nodded.

"Once," he confirmed for us. "He had music playing when I got back to our dorm and he was singing along and when he saw me he sort of freaked out and I haven't heard it since. It was really good, too. He insists that he's a terrible singer. But I don't know, he had problems in sixth grade, I think."

"Problems?" Leo questioned, knowing that Percy having problems in the tone Grover was saying it in.... Just didn't sound like him.

But he does. Said he always had and they couldn't afford therapy. Until now. And he doesn't like his therapist. Trying to look for a new one.

Again, the satyr nodded and made sure Percy couldn't hear us. He was talking with Bianca, Frank, and Hazel. All the rest of us were over here. The adults were all talking.

"Uh, yeah," Grover's tone got dark. "He um, he denied it. We got in quite a few arguments about it. The only reason they stopped was because he found out he was going to get expelled. But yeah. He had confidence issues when it came to himself. If somebody ever said a word about me, he would scare the shit out of them. But if they did anything in return to him, that confidence was gone and he never stood up for himself."

"How often was that, though?" Reyna reasoned. "I mean, it's Percy."

"Every day." Grover answered her questions. "He wouldn't tell his mom when he wrote to her. He wouldn't report it. Every time I brought it up he said he was fine, he could hold his own. And it was just stuff that you didn't want to believe. I found blood in our bathroom a couple times because he forgot a spot on the sink. But he hid makeup and he knew how to hide everything he did. I was convinced by the end of the semester that I wouldn't get him to camp because he would kill himself before I could get him to camp."
