Chapter Twenty Five

Frank

There's so much I don't know about Percy when he knows like everything about me.

First off: his step dad is dead.

I didn't even know he had a step dad.

After dinner, we were all in the basement just hanging out. Playing rock band. Which Jason hasn't played before, so that was funny. Him trying to do the guitar on extreme mode.

He failed 3 seconds in.

But anyways, Reyna, Percy, and I weren't playing as we just did and Reyna was the one to bring it up.

"I didn't know you had a step dad." Reyna remarked to Percy as Tristan came downstairs. Nobody noticed him this early on.

"Yeah," Percy told us. "Two of them. Gabe and my mom got married not long after I was born, and he died when I was 12. Medusa. He turned into an alcoholic and sucked up all of our money and he wasn't a nice guy anyways. The only reason my mom married him was to horde off monsters because he stunk that bad. And then Paul and my mom met at a code class for writing and they got engaged when I was 15 and they seemed really happy and he seemed nice and then he sort of started to beat on my mom when I wasn't around. I found out by my neighbors. She denied it because she knew I got along with Paul and all but they never engaged and then Paul basically raped her and I have a little sister now and yeah. He's in jail now."

"Your life sounds like it's a mess." I told the son of Poseidon and he nodded his head. "I mean, Poseidon's your dad, it doesn't seem like your mom is good with men, you had amnesia at 16, I mean... What's next? You're abused?"

"No, that already happened." Percy promised, scaring me and be smiled. "That's why I hated Gabe. He was abusive to both my mom and I. I didn't know about my mom until a month before his died but then again it led to his death. And no, we didn't kill him. Apparently my dad was visiting to drop something off for me and Gabe was there and he was drunk and when he tried to go for my mom, and for her. My dad... He grabbed Medusa's head and we sold it. Moved. Mom went to college. So if you think my life can get worse, it probably can't."

Oh.

That's uh...

I wonder if he has PTSD. Or anxiety. Or depression.

He's got to have at least one of those.

Then again, he doesn't seem to really care about people dying. Which seems... I get it, but I don't.

On one hand, he just doesn't think about it and doesn't let it get to him. On the other hand, it could be that he's heartless.

"Oh, yeah!" I recalled, changing the subject. "Why did you ask about Beryl Grace?"

"Why?" Percy repeated. "Um, you know how she had two kids? Like what Tristan told us?"

We both nod our heads.

Percy pointed at Jason.

"Jason is the younger of the two," Percy explained to me. "Obviously, Thalia's the older. She doesn't exactly enjoy the subject of her mother, though, and thus never told Jason she was dead. Or who she was at all."

Oh.

Oh.

So that means Jason's mom is dead, and he doesn't even realize it. Because Jason had no reaction to the story. And he's always been curious about his mom. Reyna told me that when he went missing, they had suspected he went to look for his mom.

Camp Jupiter isn't like Camp Half-Blood. You're expected to stay there and live there, especially training. At Camp Half-Blood, they tell you to go home for school, for the holidays, and if you can't, that's okay! They'll celebrate there, too! They even celebrate Canada Day, which makes me happy because there are other Canadians in camp.

But at Camp Jupiter, holidays just don't happen. You train. You train. You train. And if course, I wasn't around for that long. But when we told Jason Christmas was coming up, he had no idea what Christmas was. None of the Romans born there did.

We were here for Thanksgiving. I know Sally was going to come, Percy's mom. Nico's family possibly, Rachel's parents, and yeah. If Annabeth decides to show up, her family will be here.

And Tristan heard this, but he found it weirder that Percy's dad's name was Poseidon.

"You had a kid with Aphrodite," Percy told him. "Beryl had a kid with Zeus. Two of them. Is it really that weird?"

We knew coming here that Aphrodite never told him that she was a goddess like the others told our parents.

"Frank!" Tristan yelled from upstairs. "Your mother and grandmother are here!"

Percy, Hazel, and I shared a look. Because I was told my mom died in combat, and my grandma is too old to travel. I'm pretty sure she died.

Percy went up with me and she was there. With my grandma.

And I'm convinced Tristan knows everyone, because he knew my mother. And we're Canadian.

They both knew Percy.

And the son of Poseidon looked at me.

"That was you?"

"What?" I asked him.

"Remember when you were little," Mom explained to me as Percy seemed to remember this story. "And your aunt Sally came over? You didn't think she was your aunt because she looked like grandpa and not grandma."

"I remember aunt Sally." I assured my mother. "She was really nice and made really good blue cookies. Uncle Gabe was... He was mean. Why?"

"Do you remember her son?"

I nodded my head. I remember Perseus. He hated me calling him that. But I was like 8 and so I did it anyways.

"Perseus, yeah," I told my mom. "he hated that name. But he called me Franklin, so I called him Perseus. He was older than me by like a year. What about him?"

I'm going to kill him for saying it.

"Franklin."
