Fourth of July had become a crazy holiday for Kiana and Josette. They would always attend a party at some rich kids house, get black out drunk, and wake up the next day in their own beds somehow. But this year was slightly different. Sandra was in New York finishing a movie and J.R had decided to fly there and surprise her after her last scene, which left Kiana alone with her little brother. Knowing she couldn't go anywhere with Marcus, Kiana invited Jo over so the two could devise a plan. Josette sat on top of the kitchen island snacking on a bag of chips while Kiana made a grilled cheese for Marcus.
"So, what are we gonna do?" Asked Jo as she reached into the bag of lays chips. "Not like we can take Marcus with us"
"What if we host our own party?" Kiana suggested. She placed the grilled cheese on a plate and slid it beside her friend. "Marcus, your foods ready!"
"Coming!" He shouted from the living room. Marcus ran in and sat beside Jo. "Can I be invited to your party?"
The question caught both girls by complete surprise, they didn't know Marcus had heard them. "There's no party" Jo lied.
"I heard you talking about it, you're pretty loud"
"Okay, look, we are planning one but you better not tell mom and dad or else I'll literally kill you" Said Kiana, waving around the knife she'd cut her brothers grilled cheese with.
Marcus nodded. "I won't, but only if I party with you guys"
The two friends looked to each other and shrugged, it seemed that would be the only way to get Marcus not to tell.
"Fine, but do not drink anything unless it comes from me or Jo, got that?" Marcus grinned from ear to ear. "I hate you so much"
"Sure you do"
"Back to the party. How are we gonna get enough people to actually make it a party?" Josette questioned.
"We can invite our friends and tell them to spread the word" Says Kiana. "It'll be easy"
"What about the alcohol? Can't have a party without it"
Kiana hadn't thought everything through. If she took any alcohol lying around at home her parents would surely notice, and she couldn't exactly get any with a fake ID since it was very likely that she would get recognized as Sandra Stevens daughter.
"Fuck" She muttered.
"Ooo! I'm telling mom and dad you said a bad word" Said Marcus with a mouthful of grilled cheese.
Kiana rolled her eyes at Marcus. "Go ahead, they won't care" Marcus stuck his tongue out at his sister out of pure annoyance. "I'm gonna burn your next meal you little rat"
—
Jo and Kiana sat out on the Stevens front porch watching as Marcus ran around the street with his friends. Josette had laid her head down on Kiana's lap, the brunette ran her fingers through her best friends hair as she watched her little brother.
"Hey, Jo? Can I tell you something?" Kiana's voice was shaky as she spoke. "You have to promise you won't hate me"
Jo sat up and looked at her best friend, and the confusion on her face was evident. "Nothing you do or say could ever make me hate you Kie"
Kiana sighed and wiped her sweaty hands on her jeans. "I'm... I'm gay"
"I thought you were gonna tell me you killed somebody" Josette joked. "But in all seriousness, I'm glad you trust me enough to tell me. You're gonna be my best friend no matter what"
"Bitch I better be, because if we're not friends in 12 years I'm gonna kill you" They both laughed and Josette lightly pushed Kiana. "But for real, I think I'd lose my mind if we ever stopped being friends"
"While we're confessing things to each other, I also gotta tell you something"
Kiana had an idea of what Jo wanted to say, but she wasn't going to say it for her. "What is it?"
"Okay, well, I'm gay too" There was a nervous chuckle that came from Josette. There wasn't anything to be nervous about, but coming out was something that made her nervous.
"I kind of already knew that" Kiana laughed. "You practically have hearts shooting out of your eyes whenever you look at Ava"
"You're one to talk, you get so awkward around Olivia"
Kiana playfully shoved Josette. "Shut up!"
"I have an idea," Says Jo. "Whoever kisses their crush tonight first, gets $50"
"We don't even know if Ava and Olivia are gay. What if we both lose?"
Jo shrugged at Kiana's question. "I don't know"
—
"Okay, so give me a run down, who'd you invite?"
"I invited Max, Jared, Stacy, and Armani" Josette replied. "They're bringing the football team the and cheer squad, and if they're coming the whole school is guaranteed to come too"
"But you told our friends first, right?" Kiana asked, and Jo nodded. "Good, I don't want them finding out about our party through somebody else"
"Kiana!" Marcus called out from downstairs, "Your friends are here!"
The two headed downstairs to find their friends pouring themselves a drink from a bottle of vodka.
"Where'd you get alcohol?" Jo glanced around the room and noticed Daniel, their friend, was missing. "And where's Daniel?"
"He's getting the keg from his truck" Says Ava, "Steve offered to help but you know how he responds to any form of that" Ava chuckled softly as Steve, her boyfriend, wrapped his arms around her waist from behind and kissed her cheek.
Josette fake gagged at the couple. Kiana rolled her eyes at Jo and tossed an arm over her friends shoulder and took the bottle of vodka Olivia handed her and left to the kitchen with Jo.
"If I don't die of alcohol poisoning tonight push me out of a moving car" Josette groaned, grabbing the bottle and taking a huge sip of vodka.
"Okay, that's enough" Kiana took the bottle and set it down on the counter. "You can get wasted when everyone else arrives, not now"
—
It'd been hours since the party began. Everyone was too wasted to act like a normal human being, they were either chugging beers or out front hosting wrestling matches. Josette was inside chugged beers with a group of guys while Kiana was cheering on two shirtless football players wrestling, although with how drunk they were it looked like they were just hugging on the grass.
The wrestling had bored Kiana after a while so went to go chug a beer with Jo, but she stopped before she could walk in the house. "What are you doing?" Kiana asked Olivia.
Olivia was sat on the front porch with her back against the wall. "These types of parties aren't my thing, I'm more into more relaxed parties with just a couple friends"
"Why'd you come? I mean you knew what this was gonna be" Olivia shrugged at Kiana's question. "Oh, come on, there has to be a reason"
Olivia sighed. "Because of you"
Kiana tilted her head in confusion, mostly everyone came because of who she was, or rather who her mother was. "I'm sorry, I don't follow"
"I like you, Kie, and not just as a friend" Olivia turned her head away from Kiana, already prepared to be laughed at or rejected. But the silence from the brunette was killing her, she'd very much rather be rejected than sit in this uncomfortable silence with her friend. "Can you please say something?" She asked, still keeping her eyes off of Kiana.
"I- " Kiana began to speak but was quickly cut off by Steve and Daniel quite literally throwing out some guy out onto the front lawn.
"Stay out you fucking creep!" Steve yelled at the guy. "You're lucky I only gave you a black eye, if you pull that shit again I'll kick your ass motherfucker!" The guy flipped off Steve and walked away. "Yeah fuck you too!"
"What the hell happened?" Kiana questioned, glancing at the guy then at Steve.
"He was all up on Ava, pretty sure he tried to drug her"
"Holy shit, is she okay?" Kiana couldn't believe her own friend almost got drugged at her house, at her party.
Steve nodded. "She seems fine" He answered, "Look, Kie this party was fun but I think it's time you ended it"
"I was thinking the same thing. Can you guys help me end it?"
Her friends agreed and they quickly got to business. Steve and Olivia ushered everybody out while Daniel and Kiana broke up the wrestling matches out front. Kicking out several teenagers turned out to be surprisingly easy, though a good few did toss their cups and the friends or shouted curse words at them as they left, but after half an hour everybody was out.
Ava and Steve were the first of the friends to leave, and after an awkward goodbye between Olivia and Kiana, Daniel gave Olivia a ride back to her place. As for Marcus, he'd fallen asleep an hour before the party ended. Kiana and Josette were now laying on the couch side by side while Lovers Spit by the Broken Social Scene had been left on repeat.
"Kie?"
"Hm?" Kiana hummed.
"Does it ever drive you crazy getting old?"
The thought of getting older did frighten her a little, but it never drove her crazy. "It scares me more than anything"
"Sorry for spilling that beer all over you by the way" Josette had accidentally spilled her drink on Kiana when they were throwing all the cups out.
"Don't even worry about it" They were quiet for another minute or so until Kiana spoke again. "Did you kiss her?"
"God no," Jo chuckled. "She started talking about marrying Steve one day and I sort of chickened out. Guess I owe you 50 bucks"
"Who said you owe me?"
Josette sat up on the couch and looked at her best friend with a smile on her face, she was glad she didn't owe Kiana money. "No way, you didn't kiss anyone either!"
"Olivia confessed she liked me," Says Kiana. "But when it was my turn to say something I didn't"
Josette smacked the side of her friends head. "Idiot!"
Kiana sat up and shoved Jo back a little. "Shut up, I know! I sort of froze, I didn't expect her to like me too. There goes my first kiss I guess"
"Well," Jo began. "Wanna just kiss each other? I mean neither of us kissed the girl we like"
Kiana thought about it for a moment. Everyone always said they regretted who they had their first kiss with, but she kissed her best friend then Kiana wouldn't have a single regret about it, in her head they'd be friends till the end of time. "Sure, why not"
The two friends leaned towards each other and kissed, but what they didn't know was that Marcus had gotten up for some water and was stood on the stairs as his sister kissed her best friend.
"What the hell?!"
Kiana and Josette jumped back and awkwardly leaned away from one another. "What- what are- what are you doing awake?" Kiana shifted in her seat.
"You're gay?!" The teenagers looked to each other, then back at Marcus. "Are you girlfriends?" He asked grinning from ear to ear.
Kiana patted the empty seat in the middle. The boy sat between the two and looked up at his big sister. "I'm... I'm gay, alright? But Jo and I aren't together, we just wanted to get our first kiss over with"
"Oh" He said, almost as if he were disappointed. "That would've been awesome"
"Please don't tell mom and dad. I really don't want them to find out" Kiana was on the verge of tears, she was scared of what her parents might say or how they'd react.
The Stevens siblings relationship usually consisted of empty threats and teasing one another, so seeing tears in his sisters eyes was strange. "I won't, I promise"
