house of the rising son (and daughters) pt three

The air seemed so much cooler on the much less crowded street, and Titania very much preferred it.

She was never one for people filled, over-breathed air of a party.

The fact her mother so very much enjoyed them was still incomprehensible to her.

"Thanks. By the way." Cami playfully nudged her arm with her elbow, effectively bringing her back to reality.

She furrowed her brow and nudged her back, "for what darling?"

"For walking me home. And for earlier, Fallon has been so...I don't know how to accurately describe it, she's just been...clingy? She only wants me and won't really talk to other people." The blonde crossed her arms and began to lightly rub to try and ward off the chill.

Titania paused and drugged off her jacket, carefully dropping it over Cami's shoulders. She moved to stand in front of her so she could adjust the front a bit and make sure the material covered as much of her as it could.

"Oh...um, thanks...again?" She swallowed, turquoise eyes meeting hers.

"My pleasure, on all fronts." The witch chuckled, taking a few steps before turning back and extending her hand

Cami opened and closed her mouth, but no words seemed to want to come.

So she simply took her hand and started walking again.

She really was too adorable for her own good. Maybe this damned trip wasn't all that terrible after all.

"I just realized...it's going to be so quiet at home tonight." She tried to ignore how warm her palm was against hers.

"Fallon staying overnight with the sitter?" Titania traced her thumb over the side of her hand, slowly slipping up and down over her skin.

"I figured we would be gone much longer than this so I tried to be prepared." The bartender nodded, cheeks getting a bit too warm for comfort.

"Very smart on your part, love." She followed her across the street, and she couldn't seem to tear her gaze away from her.

Gorgeous green eyes caught the light from the lamps simply lighting the street and glowed, the reflections captivating. A little grin spread over her lips, dimples in her cheeks revealing themselves.

She didn't know how in the world she missed those before.

"I can also get some study time in, ugh it's going to be so nice. And! I can have a snack without being heckled!" Cami continued on excitedly, head tilting to rest against her shoulder.

"Quiet time is lovely, isn't it?" The lawyer agreed as they began to slow a bit.

"It is, I guess I didn't appreciate it as much until Fallon came along and I went back for another degree. I ended up with guardianship of her so suddenly after my sister passed and it's just been...chaotic. Not that I would change any of it, I just...chaotic." Her hand squeezed hers.

"I can imagine. But I'm sure that little girl appreciates you more than you know." Titania squeezed back, their steps coming to a halt in front of a rather adorable older building.

"Well, this is ah, this is my stop." She announced, a little hint of disappointment lacing her tone.

"I hope you enjoy the rest of your evening, ma chère et tendre," the Boleyn lifted her hand and pressed a soft kiss to her knuckles, "until I see you and the tyke again."

"Thank you...I actually had a surprisingly good time." Cami flushed as she let go of her hand.

"I shall take that as a compliment." The lawyer flashed her crooked smirk and winked.

"...text me when you get back? Please?" She forced the words out even though she was somehow out of breath, slipping off the jacket and handing it back to her.

"Oh don't you worry, sweet thing," Titania turned on her heel and wrinkled her nose, "the things that go bump in the night are scared of me."

Cami's laugh followed her down the street, and it sweetly burned itself into her mind so she would never forget it.

If only she could know the truth of that statement.

She wondered how the visions would tell her how to tell her she was some odd concoction of succubi and witch. Since they seemed to know everything, it'd be nice if they just passed her the answers.

The walk home was mostly quiet, spare the music from restaurants and musicians on the street.

Something possessed her though, to return to the compound where the less than desired men of her family called home.

Marcel paced outside, hand rubbing his jaw as he scowled, seemingly deep in thought.

He turned and locked eyes with her, and his gaze narrowed as he studied her for a long moment.

"Don't tell me, don't tell me," the hand on his jaw dropped to wave in a circle as he raised a brow, "you're the wayward daughter of Elijah's. The one who just disappeared. Damn, I have to say, I admire the commitment."

"If there is one thing to know about me, Marcel? Never refer to me as that spineless excuse of a man's daughter." She shifted to reach into her suit's inner pocket for her carton of cigarettes and her lighter.

"I did hear from Rebekah that you're a momma's girl. I get it." Marcel kept his attention locked on her as she placed the filter between her teeth and lit the opposite end.

Titania inhaled deeply and exhaled smoke, "and Rebekah mentioned you. I offer my sincerest apologies that Klaus was the one to find you. You deserve better than that. Before we continue you, do you prefer to be called Marcellus or simply Marcel?"

The vampire almost let the surprise overtake his expression.

Almost.

"Marcel. What brings you here, Titania? This doesn't seem like your scene." He leaned back against the brick wall that framed the compound's courtyard.

"Rebekah called in a frenzy over the idiot. I chose to come to make sure the terrors can't fuck up anything else and Rebekah can leave without any trouble." It wasn't hard to answer him truthfully.

Hell knew Klaus would pull his borderline incestuous bullshit and Elijah would just enable it.

"Fair enough. You know, Elijah mentioned that you came from a coven, but he never expounded." Marcel was picking now, smart of him.

Always know as much as you can about a perceived threat.

"The Boleyn coven, love. My mother was regent, and the title fell to me after her execution." She held the cigarette between her pointer and middle fingers, following suit and leaning.

"Wait wait wait, you're telling me your mom was Anne Boleyn?" His question was incredulous, like it was difficult to fathom.

Which, completely understandable. It wasn't something talked about.

"She is, yes. She and Elijah met while she was at the French Court. I am the remaining member of our coven." Her reply was punctuated by another drag and breath of smoke.

"Yeah. I know how it feels...I'm the only one too." He nodded, curiously watching her get back to her feet and flick ash to the ground.

"Common ground, we love to see it," the hybrid offered a half smile, "I like you, Marcel. So much so that I am willing to overlook your witch throwing the only family member I enjoy out a window. And ah, I do not particularly care that you have my sperm donor. Quite honestly, I feel better he is not enabling Klaus. If I am allowed though, be cautious. We both know how that asshole can be."

This time the surprise marred his expression, and then he laughed out loud.

"Well, aren't you just a damn wildcard?"

Titania tossed the butt of the cigarette and started walking again, "oh, and try to not take their surprise at your success and survival to heart. Use it to your advantage."

She finished her walk home at that, trying to not let her curiosity win her over.

That was always a dangerous game, and when it came to the men in her immediate family? It was a losing one.

Her thoughts lingered on Marcel as she unlocked the door to the apartment, keys jangling as she twisted and pushed the door open.

She hadn't felt like this since her mother was executed, and she hated it. That was the last time she dealt with her other family...and she wasn't going to make that damn ludicrous mistake again.
