Chapter 8: Hanging Out

"I want that dress," Abby said, pointing to the hot pink dress with beading on the torso in the window. It was perfect for her.

"It's beautiful, Abby. But prom isn't for another month and a half," Sophie pointed out.

"Never hurts to start early!" Abby squealed as she ran into the store. Sophie and I shook our heads until we heard a familiar voice in the distance.

"And then he texted me at 3:37 and 3:46. I think he loves me," I hear Karen say to Joey. Sophie and I sat on a small bench and pretended to look at our phones while we listened.

"You know he still loves me, right, Karen?" Joey informed.

"Yea, I know. He talks about you all the time. But even though he has a girlfriend, I think he loves me, too."

"No. He likes you but loves me. He can't get enough of me. That's why we hook up every week."

"Ugh, you whore!" Karen jokingly pushed Joey.

"Look at you. Going for the guys that clearly are into other girls."

"It's my thing, Joey. Ooh! He texted me again! 'Hey, wanna meet at the mall?' That's awesome! I'm at the mall!"

"Go for it if you don't mind sharing him."

"I will. 'Here already. See you soon! XOXO.' Send. There! Now leave. He'll get distracted if you're here."

"But I'm you're ride, Karen. You'll be stuck at the mall."

"Joey, today I feel like I'm going to get lucky. He'll most likely will drive me home or we'll go to his place. Either or, I don't need you."

"You don't have to be a bitch about it." Joey scoffed and sashayed away.

"Whatever." Karen scoffed. She turns to her phone as it dings again. She grinned to herself and started to text again.

"Guys, come here! I need your opinion." Abby whispered to us. We follow her into the store and into the dressing room where the hot pink dress awaits.

"I'm in love. But they don't have my size. I'm too small." Abby says disappointingly. I thought for a minute of how to fix this dilemma until I saw Sophie's face light up.

"Spit it out, Sophie." I demanded.

"You know that store for petite girls? Proud To Be Petite? They might have the dress there!" She exclaimed. Abby was delighted to hear this possibility.

"Let's go!" Abby ordered, grabbing the beautiful dress and putting it on a rack. We headed out of the store until I saw that Karen was staring at the same dress Abby adored. I couldn't let her buy that dress. And she didn't even look good in pink.

"You guys go. I'll be there in a sec!" I call out to them. They nod and head out of the store as I turn on my heals and started walking toward Karen.

"Elizabeth! Great to see you here! But I thought you only shopped at JCPenny," Karen exclaimed. I kept a straight face. "Well, apparently you don't." She said, weirdly offended.

"That dress looks terrible. You should go prom dress shopping with Joey. She has great fashion sense." I lied.

"Ugh. You're just jealous I'm going to but this prom dress and you can't even afford one." She cackled.

"I've already bought my dress." I lied.

"Oh. Then why are you helping me?" Karen asked.

"You don't look your best in pink, that's all. But if you don't want to take my advice..." I trailed off.

"You're right. Black and red are my colors. What was I thinking?" She whispered.

"Glad to help!" I exclaimed, walking out of the store. Thank goodness she was dumb enough to believe me.

"Come to my birthday party next weekend. It'll be a blast. Bring your friends, too." Max said to Sophie who had a bright face on.

"Okay!" She said, grabbing the invitation.

"See ya!" Max yelled out as he walked away from us.

"Did you see that? He's adorable," Sophie sighed.

"No you're not. You're Sophie. And everyone loves Sophie." I confirmed. She gave me a small grin.

"How do I look?" Abby asked, busting out of the changing room. The dress looked more beautiful on Abby than it did on the mannequin. She was going to show everyone else up at prom.

"OMG, Abby! It's gorgeous! You need to buy it!" I squealed as she spun around.

"You look like an angel!" Sophie awed.

"Aw, you guys!" Abby said while hugging us both. She was always so sweet like that. "I will buy it."

After Abby bought her gorgeous dress, we met Cici at the food court and she decided to join our shopping trip.

"Hey, Cecile!" I heard someone say as we walked through the mall. It was Angel, and he'd pulled Cici into his arms. She was clearly disgusted.

"Get off of me!" She screamed, pushing him away.

"Why don't you like me?" He said, grabbing her hand.

"You need too much attention," she answered, walking away from him.

"That's true..." Angel mumbled. "But I can show you the world!" He exaggerated with a smolder.

"You look nothing like Aladdin," Cici said to him rudely.

"Just give me a chance to give you a good time," he pleaded.

"Get me flowers. Purple ones. Then we'll see," Cici demanded.

"Anything for my lady." He surrendered as he walked away.

"Why are you so mean to him?" Sophie asked.

"I'm mean to everyone. And, I'm trying to play hard to get," she admitted with a wink.

"So you do like him!" Abby squeaked.

"Duh." Cici neutrally said.

"I want a pizza," Cici stated.

"Same," Sophie and Samantha agreed. We were just sitting on the living room floor with blankets waiting for Xavier and Nick to come over. They said they had exciting news and they had to be here in person.

"Pizza!" The girls said when they heard the doorbell ring. I hadn't even ordered the pizza yet.

"It's just ugly people!" Cici screamed from when she opened the front door.

"You're not going to believe this!" Nick yelled.

"Shut up, bro!" Xavier snapped back, punching Nick's shoulder.

"Ow!" He yelled, rubbing it.

"Anyways," Xavier continued. "Since my dad is super rich and feels bad for leaving me and my mom, he booked me up for a three night vacation at a hotel. And, that's not the best part. He said I could book as many rooms as I wanted. So, all you guys are coming!"

"Omg! That's crazy!" Us girls squealed.

"I asked him to book five rooms so each of us will have a roommate."

"Abby's with me," he began with a smile. "Sophie with Max, Samantha with Nick, Lizzy with Blake, and Cecile with Angel."

"He's coming?!" Cici yelled at Xavier. This puts a wider smile on his face.

"Yes. And he said he had some purple flowers to give you?" He asked slyly. Nick busted into laughter. Cici just stood there with her arms crossed and a pouty face.

"Then I'm not going!" She proclaimed.

"But you don't have anything better to do," I pointed out.

"I can go to the library," she suggested to herself.

"They're closed on weekends," I pointed out again.

"I thought you wouldn't know that since you don't go to the library," she mumbled. "Okay, fine." She said after an awkward silence.

"Yay! We meet at my house at one tomorrow. Don't pack a lot." Xavier said as he walked out the door. We all shook our heads as they leave. I was so excited to stay at a hotel, but not so sure about sharing the room with Blake.
