Chapter 20: Ring On It

Elizabeth's POV

"I'm breaking up with you," Jessie cried to Blake. It's about time. Abby, Blake, and I were sitting outside during free period when Jessie just showed up and blurted that out.

"I totally understand. See ya around," Blake responded, then turned back to us. Bur Jessie tapped on his shoulder to get his attention again.

"What the hell, Moore?! You aren't even gonna fight for this?" She ran her hands from her torso to her hips to then stare at Blake, waiting for an answer.

"Why fight it? It was coming. Now go ahead and have fun."

"I will. With Jackson. He's such a big sweetheart. He even gave me this charm bracelet. You never got me anything!"

Abby stared at her with angry eyes. Jessie was wearing the exact same charm bracelet Jackson gave her when they started dating. Jackson probably kept it right after Abby threw it right in his face at the beach.

"That's true. Oh bother. I guess I was a mistake," Blake admitted.

"Yes, you were! Now don't ever talk to me again!" Jessie sashayed away and ended up in Jackson's arms. I couldn't help but to say this.

"You go, Glen Coco!" Abby started choking on her water when I started to pat Blake on the back.

"I love that movie," Abby finally announced when she got her breath back.

"We watched it yesterday," Blake added, making Abby look uncomfortable.

"Are you two dating or something? Because if you two are, Liz, we gotta have a talk if you know what I mean."

Blake and I looked at each other with an asking look.

"Are we dating?" Our faces asked each other. I quickly turned away and started to nibble on one of my nails. I didn't know if we were or not. And if we were, he would my first serious one.

I've never been in a real relationship before. I've dated but it wasn't serious. I didn't feel ashamed, but I always used to push the idea of having a boyfriend away. I wanted it to be perfect when the time came.

I had my first kiss with Blake. I never told anyone, but it was true. I felt like I was too old to have not had my first kiss. Anyways, I was scared what Blake would say. If he said yes, I would be joyous, but he'd never asked me out. And if he said no, I would lose hope in ever having him to call mine.

"Not yet," I finally heard Blake say. I sighed with relief. That was a good answer.

"Nick, I just need answers. Please, would it hurt you if I asked you why? Why you're in California?" I left in a voicemail to him. I tried to call him every day since he left, but only called me that one time.

I fell onto the couch with no hope whatsoever. He was never gonna call me back. And I kind of understood it, sort of. I guess he needed time.

"Nick?!" I yelled to myself when I heard someone knocking at the door. I opened it slowly to only find Blake on the other side. I was disappointed, but happy. He was wearing a sky blue button down shirt with jeans, and he was holding a white rose.

"You're adorable," I chirped. Then he walked in the door and pecked me on the cheek.

"I'm taking you on a date," he said bluntly.

"Wait, now?"

"Yes." My eyes soon widened and I quickly ran up the stairs in shock. I didn't know what to do. It, was too fast. But you've never had a real date. Okay, fine.

"Where to?" I asked.

"Bertucci's" he answered.

"I'll be down in a few minutes!" I yelled down the stairs.

I ran into my room and searched my closet for something to wear. It has to be fancy, but not too fancy, I thought. Then I saw the perfect thing: a light blue tunic with skinny jeans and white sandals. I got dressed and ran down the stairs. Blake walked over to me to then pin me up against the wall and said the most corny thing ever.

"If you're here, then who's running Heaven?" I blushed in response. He's amazing.

Blake's POV

I had set the whole night to be perfect. After Bertucci's, I drove us to the park that was nearby. The dinner was awkward and cheesy, so I had to make this just cheesy.

"I love this song," Liz said to me as we walked down the sidewalk at the park. We were sharing a pair of earbuds and listening to old music. We were listening to How Am I Supposed To Live Without You by Michael Bolton. I pulled Liz in front of me.

"You're beautiful," I whispered into her ear.

"You're handsome," she responded. Even in the dark, her eyes shined like stars. I had a thing for eyes, and collarbones. I know, it's weird.

I pulled Liz closer to me and put my hands on her waist as she rapped her arms around my neck. We started to slowly dance to the song.

"This is so cheesy," I murmured to myself.

"I like it," Liz responded. I gave her a small smile before she got on her toes to then peck me on the cheek.

"So you wouldn't mind your life being like a 50s romance movie?" I slyly asked. She gave out a small chuckle before she stared right into my eyes.

"I wouldn't mind."

We both smiled at each other for a moment until something caught my eye. Wet cement. Time to make it official.

"Follow me." I grabbed her hand and pulled her down the sidewalk until we were right in front of the wet cement.

"Ooh, I've done this before."

"But this time, it'll be with a promise."

She looked at me strangely when I said this. I had to do it. I knew it was too soon, but I loved her. I didn't know how real life relationships worked and if I was being too sporadic, but this was the way I wanted to do it. I wanted to make Elizabeth feel like the most important girl in the world, or at least in someone's world.

So I got down on my knee and took out the box.

"Oh my God, Blake, uh-" I had to say something fast before she freaked out and ran away.

"Elizabeth, it's not an engagement ring."

"Oh, God. You scared me."

"I'm sorry. I don't really know how to do this. Uh, hi. I'm Blake Moore and I love you. I've, had a crush on you since freshman year. I never had the courage to talk to you about it until now. You make me strong. You make me feel loved. And I couldn't ask for a better person in my life than you. I love you. And these past weeks have been hard but, when am with you, I can forget about the world. I promise I will try my best to make you feel that way every day. Will you be my girlfriend?"

"I-I love you, Blake. I promise. Yes! I-"

She stopped talking when I slipped the promise ring on her left ring finger. Elizabeth looked at it in awe as I got up. She pulled my collar to her once I was up and our lips smashed together into a kiss. It was passionate and loving. I never wanted it to end. But it sadly did.

"Come here," I said as I pulled Elizabeth to the ground. Us kneeling, we both looked at the cement and then back at each other. "Ladies first." Liz stuck her hand softly onto the wet cement to then slowly yank it out. I followed after her and drew a heart around our hands.

"One last thing," Liz said to me before she started write something in the hands. She ended up writing our initials in each of our hands.

"E.R. + B.M." It read.

"Now it's perfect," Liz said after looking at it for a moment. We then gave each other a soft smile before I ended the weirdness and kissed Liz one last time.

"I love you."
