Chapter 18

3 Days before Valentine's Day.

Emma's P.O.V

Am I a bad friend for secretly wishing for my bestfriend and her boyfriend to break up? I have perfectly good reason though, like how I think she's making the wrong choice and she's probably going to regret it in the future. Don't get me wrong, I like Jason. He's a cool guy and he's funny and good-looking but I just don't think he's right for Avery.

It's weird, there's just  this little voice in my head telling me that it's just not going to work. Maybe my opinion is biased because I've always known that Dylan liked Avery, -anyone who wasn't an oblivious idiot would've figured it out- and maybe I want Avery and Dylan to end up together so that my bestfriend could be dating my boyfriend's bestfriend.

It's hard being friends with both of them and knowing that Dylan likes Avery and she likes him back but she's choosing to stay with Jason because she doesn't want to hurt his feelings or something, I could be wrong and she might actually like him more but I know my bestfriend well enough to know that she'd be happier with Dylan.

"What's on your mind?" Aaron asked, holding my hand from the opposite side of my dining table.

"I was just thinking about this whole Avery and Dylan situation." I rolled my eyes.

He nodded and took a sip of his hot chocolate. "What's your opinion on it then?"

"I think," I paused, thinking. "I think Avery is making a mistake." I said finally.

"Me too," he replied. "Avery spends more time with Dylan than she does with Jason because he's always busy doing something."

"I know right?!" I agreed, "A person can only take so many extra classes and revision."

Aaron scratched his head, "Would it be wrong if we interfered?"

I sighed in defeat, "I already told Avery she was making a mistake yesterday."

"But what if, we get Dylan to change her mind?" Aaron raised his eyebrows and smiled mischievously.

I couldn't help but grin, "I'm listening," My grin widened. "What are you thinking?"

"This better be good," Dylan said as he joined us at our table.

I thought having lunch at Pizza Hut would be a good idea since we need the food to think of good ideas. Aaron and I quickly explained to Dylan what are plan was and what he should be do to change Avery's mind about being with Jason.

"You want me to what?" Dylan asked skeptically.

"Woo her," I answered.

He raised an eyebrow and looked at Aaron in question. "Dude, trust us. This is a good idea." Aaron assured him.

"How am I supposed to do that?"

"Think of something! Spend time with her, hang out, I don't know, anything!" I exclaimed. "Ask herif she wants to go hang out." I suggested.

"What am  going to do, knock on her door and tell her I'm going to 'woo' her?" Dylan asked sarcastically.

"No, not that, That's a bad idea," Aaron said, taking a bite out of a slice of pizza.

"Let me think..."

I must've been thinking for too long because soon I had both Aaron and Dylan calling out my name tyring to get my attention.

"Emma? Emma!" They both shouted.

"Oh, yeah, sorry. My mind wandered." I smiled sheepishly.

"Well...?" Dylan asked waiting for me to share my ideas.

"Uh..." I paused, and then it hit me. " Oh! Avery isn't doing anything today because Jason is... doing whatever he said he was doing, I forgot. Anyway, moving on! We could ask her to go to the beach with us."

"How exactly is that going to work?" Aaron asked.

"Well, she'll say yes and then we ditch her and leave her with Dylan." I smiled smugly because I felt proud of myself for coming up with a brilliant idea.

"Then what do I do?" Dylan asked, waiting for me to say more.

"I don't know," I shrugged. "I can't do everything, you know!" I exclaimed.

"Alright, sorry. Jeeze! Calm down!" Dylan said raising his hands.

"I am calm!" I insisted and Aaron raised his eyebrows at me. I took a deep breath, "I'm calm." I assured them.

"She's definitely a piece of work," Dylan joked and I glared at him.

"Yep. you either love her or you don't." Aaron chuckled.

"Yeah, okay, I get it. Now let's just finish eating so we can hurry this along."

Dylan's P.O.V

I have no idea if this is going to work or not but I hoped for the best. Aaron pulled the car into Avery's driveway and honked the horn. Moments later, she was walking out the door, locking it behind her and jogging towards the car.

Emma rolled the window down, "Hey, Aves! Hop in!"

"Hey," she smiled and quickly climbed into the back seat.

"Hi," I said and she jumped in surprise.

"Dylan," she said tensely. "I didn't know you were coming."

"Neither did I" I chuckled in reply and she nodded, averting her eyes to look out the window.

"So, where are we going?" she asked.

"To the beach," Emma answered as Aaron turned onto the main road.

"But it's cold!" Avery complained.

"So?" Emma argued. "We're still going."

"We're going to the beach, in February?" I asked in disbelief. Even I didn't want to go to the beach in this weather.

Great idea Emma. It's genius, I thought sarcastically.

"Yeah." Emma answered. "Don't bother complaining or whining, we're going."

It was windy and the clouds darkened the sky when we got out of the car.

"Looks like rain," Avery observed, looking up.

"Yeah," I agreed.

"Dylan, Avery! Are you two coming or what?" Emma shouted. Her and Aaron were already way ahead of us.

"We're coming!" I shouted back. I guess Emma wasn't kidding when she said they were going to ditch us. "Avery, let's go." I tilted my head towards the beach.

"Yeah, I'm coming." she said quietly.

We walked together, trying to catch up to Emma and Aaron who had disappeared. We didn't talk, it was kind of awkward to be honest but maybe that was just me.

"So..." I broke the silence, kicking the ground with my shoe.

"So..." Avery carried on walking.

"How are you?" I asked.

Really? I asked myself. Is that the best you got?

"Fine, thanks." she answered and I nodded.

How do I get her to talk to me? She's being too quiet today.

"We have to hand-in our Art project tomorrow," I said lamely. Gah! I can't think of what else to say. "Sorry that I wasn't there yesterday in Art, I had a football match." I scratched my head. I sound so lame.

"Yeah, we do. We've pretty much finished anyway. I just have one more piece to finish off tonight and we're good." She shrugged. "And yeah, I know. It's fine. How was it?"

"It was really good, we won!" I exclaimed. I mentally hit myself, I think I sounded too enthusiastic.

"That's great." she replied.

"Yeah, I guess." I paused. "Do you need help finishing your painting?" I asked. "I could help you," i offered trying not to sound too desperate or excited.

"No, it's okay. I don't have that much to do on it. Thanks anyway."

"It's alright," I mumbled. "So how are you and Jason? Everything okay?"

"Yeah, we're great!" she smiled and I suddenly felt guilty for trying to break them up. Maybe they're genuinely happy and I was wrong. Maybe, my jealousy is clouding my judgment about this whole thing.

Besides, who am I to decide who she should be with?

"What happened?" Emma whispered to me while Aaron distracted Avery.

"She's happy." I answered and she nodded and switched places with Aaron.

He walked over to me, "I'm sorry, dude." Aaron said sympathetically and patted my shoulder.

"Me, too." I said.

Who liked Emma's P.O.V and who didn't like it?

Tell me if you didn't, don't worry, no hard feelings. I need feedback on how to improve my writing skills. :D
