PROLOGUE
Rootspring stared in horror at the pool. His one love was gone. He didn't know what to tell Ivypool. He knew he had to move on, but he just couldn't. No one was worthy to have that special place in that Bristlefrost had.
Rootspring felt his ears fall on his head, his tail ruffled in sadness. His whole world felt like it was crashing down instantly. He loved Bristlefrost so much, he didn't know what a world without her would feel like or look like. Rootspring turned around and noticed Shadowsight, panting heavily.
Bristlefrost had pushed Shadowsight out of the way of Ashfur's grasp to save him. It reminded him of the same way Bristlefrost saved him from drowning.
Shadowsight's amber gaze met Rootspring's horrified gaze. "I... It's my fault... I should've known to never believe that cat! I was so vulnerable!" Shadowsight mewed, burying his head in his paws on the ground.
Rootspring felt a pang of pity for the poor medicine cat. Ashfur had deceived him at such a young age and manipulated him into believing he was StarClan. He manipulated Shadowsight to do so many horrible things. He manipulated Shadowsight to cause all this to happen. Even though it was his fault, he couldn't blame him.
Rootspring sighed and padded over to Rootspring, the tip of his tail touching his shoulder. "It's okay, Shadowsight. It's not your fault." Rootspring mewed softly.
Shadowsight lifted his head up. "But it is! It's mt fault Ashfur caused all of this! The Dark Forest could've destroyed everything!"
Rootspring sighed and sat down. "But Bristlefrost saved us... Even though she's gone now, she saved us."
Shadowsight sighed and rest his head in his paws. "I know... But she's gone now. Let's head back now..."
Rootspring nodded in agreement. Even though his one true love was gone now, he knew he had to move on. But it hurt him. He didn't know what he'd tell Ivypool.
Bristlefrost was Ivypool and Fernsong's daughter. Bristlefrost had volunteered to go into the Dark Forest. Ivypool tried to stop her, but she still went anyways.
Many moons ago, Ivypool trained in the Dark Forest. It was a cruel, dangerous place. The longer a cat was in their, the more evil they slowly get. Ivypool was a spy for the upcoming great battle. It was dangerous but she knew.
Rootspring and Shadowsight eventually got out of The Dark Forest. Rootspring noticed Shadowsight waking up, his eyes slowly opening. Rootspring looked around and couldn't find Bristlefrost's body.
Rootspring felt his heart sink to the bottom of his entire body. She had her entire self in their. Rootspring sighdd and padded up to Shadowsight.
"Bristlefrost's body isn't here..." Rootspring mewed.
"She's gone... Just gone..." Shadowsight mewed. "What will we tell Ivypool...?"
"I... I don't know..." Rootspring's ear flattened on his head.
Shadowsight sighed and slowly stood up and nearly fell back down. Byt his mother, Dovewing came running over and held him up. She nuzzed muzzle in his fur.
"Shadowsight! You're alive! It was so scart watching all this happen! Your body was shaking and thrashing a lot!"
Tigerstar, his father, padded up to him and touched his muzzle with the top of his head. "I'm proud of you, my son. You helped save the Clans, StarClan, and that dreaded place from extinction."
Shadowsight quivered, "B-but I k-killed her..."
Dovewing looked confused, "Who?"
Rootspring felt like just wanting to leave his body forever.
"Bristlefrost? Where's Bristlefrost?" Ivypool mewed frantically, looking around everywhere.
Dovewing's eyes widened. "Where is Bristlefrost?"
Ivypool looked at Rootspring and noticed the look on his face. "She's... gone...?" Rootspring nodded to Ivypool's question.
Ivypool's ears flattened. Her kit, her bravest kit, was gone.
