The Visitor
Lindsey and Karen had gotten together to discuss the beginning process of the move to the new house; Will and Leelee were excited.
Stevie was waiting for the arrival of her band mate and best friend Christine Mcvie.
Instead of her usual black, Stevie dressed in a white long flowing skirt and a white blouse. Even though it was small but because of her height, it was more noticeable now. It felt like her bump had grown a bit over night.
Now, Stevie didn't want to her bump anymore so she wanted to start wearing things so it can be seen easily.
She wanted to see how long it would take for Christine to notice her baby bump.
An hour later, there was a knock on the door.
Stevie opened the door to reveal a smiling Christine.
Christine noticed Stevie's appearance and knew something was off then finally saw Stevie's bump.
She didn't mention it, instead she said. "Wow, love, you look so radiant! And my gosh, you're actually wearing something that isn't black."
Stevie smiled back and gave Christine a hug.
"I'm so glad to see you! You look amazing yourself." Taking Christine by the hand she led her to the living room where she had placed a pitcher of freshly made sweet tea with two glasses on the side waiting to be used.
They took a seat on the sofa.
"Would you like some tea?" Stevie asked.
"Yes thank you."
Stevie poured them both some tea and sat back.
"So, is there anything you would like to tell me Stevie?" Christine asked raising an eyebrow.
"Um...I bought a new house. I should be moved in soon."
"And?" Christine pressed.
"It's in Malibu. Once I get settled you should visit again so you can see the new house."
Stevie said dragging out telling Christine the news with amusement.
"Come on Stevie! You're pregnant aren't you?" Christine exclaimed wanting to cut to the chase.
Stevie laughed and said. "Well, yes I am!"
Christine smiled wide and gave Stevie a hug. "Oh love! Congratulations! How far along you?"
"I'm four months." Stevie said placing a hand on her belly.
"I noticed as soon as I saw you! I was just waiting for you to tell me. But I couldn't wait any longer. We talk almost everyday and you have failed to mention this. Also, I didn't know you were in a relationship with anyone."
"Well, I wasn't in a relationship until recently." Stevie said suddenly feeling nervous.
"Go on, who is he? Do I know him?"
"Yes, you do know him. It's...Lindsey."
Christine's eyes grew wide. "Lindsey? Really? Wow!"
Stevie told Christine everything from the beginning; finding Lindsey in not the best state, helping with the children, and everything that was going on leading up to her final night at Lindsey's home.
"I was in Maui for about a month when I started to have symptoms. At first, I thought I had started to go through menopause. Then the morning sickness started. Karen bought me a test and well, it was positive. I came home and saw my doctor and it was confirmed."
Christine stayed quiet for a moment before saying. "You and Buckingham, hmmmm? Well, let's hope you two finally got your shit together! Although, the last time wasn't your fault. Sorry, anyway! I'm so happy for the both of you!"
Stevie had tears falling down her cheeks.
"Stevie, what's wrong?" Christine asked and put an arm around Stevie's shoulder.
"I'm...just scared Chris! I love Lindsey with all of heart! What if...what if what we have now is taken away?" Stevie sobbed on Christine's shoulder.
"Awe Stevie, don't think negative thoughts! Try not to dwell on it. It's heartbreaking about what happened to Kristen, may she rest in peace but maybe things, as I do believe, things happen for a reason. This is yours and Lindsey's second chance. Everything will work out. You'll see." Christine said holding onto her best friend.
Stevie had stopped sobbing and was now wiping her tears away. "You're right Chris, I need to stop the negative thoughts. When do you have to go back home?"
"By the end of the week."
"Do you think you can come back when it gets closer to my due date? I want you to be here."
"Of course love! I wouldn't miss meeting the little one!" Christine said.
"Chris, one more thing. Would you be the baby's godmother?"
Christine's eyes began to tear up. "Oh my god Stevie! Yes! I'm going to spoil him or her! Thank you!"
After Christine's visit, things began to pick up speed.
Since Christine now knew, Stevie and Lindsey decided to tell their other bands mates, Mick and John. Both were surprised of course but were really happy for the couple.
Next Lindsey called his brother Jeff and his mom. Jeff was happy for his brother, while his mother was at first not happy with the news because she felt Lindsey had moved on way too soon but she had warmed up and couldn't wait to meet her new grandchild.
Stevie and Lindsey were finally moved in to the new house. Will and Leelee loved their new rooms. And of course they loved living next to the ocean.
Stella had her nursery set up just like it was at Lindsey's old home.
Stevie had picked the room next to hers and Lindsey's bedroom to be the nursery for their baby.
They hadn't decorated it yet because they didn't know the gender of the baby yet.
They had ordered the baby furniture and it would be delivered soon.
The children adjusted well, and soon Lindsey and Stevie had fallen into a family routine.
Leelee had began calling Stevie mommy since the day they told the kids she was having a baby. She was very attached to Stevie now, same with Stella.
Will was still hesitant to call Stevie mom or mommy and of course Stevie nor Lindsey pushed him into doing so. He still called her auntie Stevie.
Stella of course hearing Leelee call Stevie mommy, her second word that she learned was
momma and would say it whenever she wanted Stevie; her first word of course was dadda.
Stevie had asked Lindsey for a few photos of Kristen. He gave them to Stevie who put them in beautiful frames and put them in the living room on top of the fire place. She wanted to have the photos for the children, to let them know their mommy Kristen would never be forgotten.
The two photos were one of Kristen by herself smiling at the camera, her blonde hair blowing in the wind, and the other was of Kristen and Lindsey with the children, with a newborn Stella.
Will was afraid that Stevie and Lindsey wouldn't keep their promise to remember his mother but after seeing the photos he warmed up to Stevie and began to call her mom.
Stevie of course being hormonal, cried from happiness when she heard Will call her that for the first time.
*20 weeks pregnant*
It was the morning of Stevie's 20 week ultrasound where they would find out the baby's gender.
Stevie hated to wake up early but didn't want to draw attention to herself and risk anyone seeing that she was pregnant, so she had scheduled her appointments so early so she could be the first patient to be seen.
They left Stella with Karen and they dropped off Will and Leelee at school and were on their way to Stevie's appointment.
Stevie stared out the window while her hands rested on her now larger belly.
She couldn't help it; she always had her hand or hands on her belly.
She felt the baby move but had yet to feel the baby kick.
Every time the baby would move Stevie's face would light up with happiness.
Lindsey had pulled into a parking spot when he heard Stevie gasp.
He quickly turned towards her and asked. "What's wrong Steph? Are you okay?"
Tears rolled down Stevie's cheeks as she cried softly.
She smiled and grabbed Lindsey's hand and placed it on a side of her belly.
After a few seconds Lindsey said. "Oh my goodness! Steph! That's..." He couldn't finish he was crying tears of joy too.
"The baby is kicking! Oh Linds! This is so...I can't even explain it."
"It's amazing Steph! Just absolutely amazing. Awe, I think they are tired now." Lindsey said after a few minutes as the baby had stopped kicking.
Stevie chuckled. "Come on, let's go and find out if we are having a boy or a girl!"
"Alright let's go." Lindsey said as he got out of the car and walked to Stevie's side of the car to open her door.
They both walked hand in hand into the doctors office.
Being the first one there, Stevie was immediately called in.
Stevie sat on the exam table waiting not so patiently; Lindsey holding her hand for comfort.
"Good morning Ms. Nicks. How are you doing this morning?" The doctor asked.
"I'm feeling great. It was an emotional but happy morning. The baby kicked for the first time!" Stevie said excitedly.
The doctor smiled and said. "That's wonderful! Are you both ready to find out what the gender is?"
"Yes!" Lindsey and Stevie said in unison.
"Alright, lay back and lift up your blouse please."
Stevie did as she was asked and held Lindsey's hand tighter.
The doctor squeezed some jelly on her growing belly and began to move the transducer around. He pushed a button and the room filled with the baby's strong heartbeat.
Lindsey's eyes filled with tears; he brought her hand up to his lips and kissed it. She gave him a gentle squeeze and smiled at him, tears in her eyes.
They both looked back at the doctor.
He turned the screen so Lindsey and Stevie could look at their growing child. They both couldn't stop smiling.
"Well, everything looks great. The baby looks healthy and growing as it should be. So now for the big reveal...."
Stevie and Lindsey held their breath as the doctor said. "It's a....girl!"
Stevie was so full of emotion she couldn't speak. Lindsey stood up and kissed Stevie on her lips.
He laid his forehead to hers and said, "We're having a girl Steph! I love you so much Stephanie Lynn!"
"I'm so happy Linds! I love you too!"
Later that night, they all sat around the kitchen table eating dinner; during dessert that's when Stevie announce to everyone, Karen included, that she and Lindsey were having a girl.
Karen got up and hugged Stevie and Lindsey and told them how happy she was for them.
Leelee was ecstatic about having another baby sister.
Will at first was disappointed but quickly recovered and said. "Well, it's okay! I'm going to be the best big brother to ALL of my little sisters!"
Two weeks later on a Saturday afternoon, Lindsey and the kids had been swimming in the pool and now Lindsey was bathing the kids to wash off the chlorine.
After, he got the kids settled in the living room to watch a movie while he went upstairs to take a shower.
He passed Stevie on the way as she was making her way down. They gave each other a quick kiss and Lindsey said. "I'll be downstairs soon. The kids are watching a movie."
"I'll join them." Stevie said.
Stevie sat down on the sofa; Leelee got up from the floor and climbed up the sofa followed by Stella as they sat on each side of Stevie and Will moved and sat by Stevie's feet on the floor.
That's how Lindsey found, his heart swelled at the sight.
Just then there was a knock on the door.
"I'll get it." Lindsey said as he saw Stevie was about to get up from the sofa.
He opened the door and was surprised by who was standing in from of him.
"So, when was were you going to tell me you moved into a new home with my grandchildren?" The older woman said scolding Lindsey.
"Uh, hi Marcy. I was going to tell you as soon as we got settle but then things were kind of chaotic around here so it slipped my mind. I'm sorry."
"I should hope so! You changed your home phone number too! I had to hear all of this from your brother who I had to track down."
"Again Marcy I'm sorry. Please come in. The kids are in the living room watching a movie. They'll be happy to see you." Lindsey said, feeling nervous for he was sure Marcy didn't know that he was living with Stevie.
Marcy followed Lindsey into the living room where they saw Leelee, having placed her hand on top of Stevie's bump. "Wow mommy! That felt weird!" She said giggling.
Lindsey saw Marcy go from shock to anger.
She turned to Lindsey and said. "Mommy?"
Stevie looked up, as did the kids.
"Grandma!" Will said as he ran into Marcy's arms.
"Oh my sweet boy! I've missed you!"
"Hi grandma!" Leelee said standing next to Will waiting to get a hug from Marcy.
"Lee! My little princess!" Marcy said giving Leelee a hug.
By this point Stevie stood up holding Stella on her hip. Lindsey walked to stand next to her taking Stella into his arms. He walked back to Marcy so she could hug Stella who she hadn't seen since Kristen's funeral.
"My my Stella, you are growing so fast!" Marcy said as she took Stella in her arms.
Stella furrowed her brow trying to take in Marcy's appearance; trying to figure out who she was.
Stella began to wiggle trying to get out of Marcy's arms, calling out for Stevie.
"Momma! Momma!" Stella cried.
Marcy was livid.
Stevie walked over and said. "Why don't I take the kids to the kitchen for a snack?"
Lindsey nodded. Stevie took Stella into her arms and walked the kids into the kitchen and left Lindsey with a very angry Marcy.
"Come have a seat." He said leading the way to the sofa where he sat.
Marcy reluctantly sat next to him.
"Please tell me that she's just visiting and that the children calling her mommy is just due to the trauma of losing their mother at a young age, them not being able to understand what happened to her."
Lindsey hung his head and said. "No, Stevie isn't visiting. She lives here with us. We just moved in here; it's been about a month."
"So, you and that women are a couple now?" Marcy asked.
"Yes, we are a couple."
"I take it that that's your child she's carrying."
"Yes."
Marcy shook her head. "How many months is she?"
"She's close to six."
"Wow, Lindsey. Now I understand you have every right to move on with your life BUT my daughter hadn't been gone in, what, two months when you slept with her! I knew you never loved my daughter! I told her NOT to marry you!" Marcy said standing up to stand over Lindsey.
"She has a name. Her name is Stevie; we just became a couple recently. I hadn't seen her in months since that night. I only found out she was pregnant last month. And I did love Kristen very much and cared for her deeply." Lindsey said calmly.
"Yeah but you weren't in love with her! You were always love with Stevie!"
"Well, I'm not going to deny that."Lindsey said.
"You bastard!" Marcy said slapping him across his cheek.
Karen had walked into the kitchen finding Stevie with the children sitting at the table. Stevie did her best to keep the kids from hearing their grandmother's yelling.
She was singing to them. Karen told Stevie she would take the kids outside which Stevie just nodded.
Stevie took a deep breath and walked back into the living room.
"Is everything okay in here?" Stevie asked tentatively.
"You! What kind of women would be with a man who just lost his wife!" Marcy said walking up to Stevie. "You took advantage of his weakness! We all know he has always loved you! I never bought this whole "we buried are feeling for each other" bullshit! I bet you were jumping with joy when my daughter died!"
Stevie was crying, tears streaming down her cheeks. She couldn't believe the situation she was in right now.
"That's not true." Stevie sobbed. "We didn't know this was going to happen; all I was doing was stay with Lindsey to help him get situated. Jeff asked me to help. Everything that has happened after that...it just happened."
"Oh please! Save your tears! And another thing, you are NOT my grandchildren's mother! You can't take her place! They shouldn't be calling you mommy!" Marcy yelled at her.
"I'm not trying to take her place! Nor have I ever given them a reason to think that I am. They know that Kristen will always be there mother."
"I bet this was your plan too; make my grandchildren yours! They're not yours! And they NEVER will be!" Marcy said. By now Marcy was beyond reasoning. She didn't want to listen to anything they had to say.
Stevie was now sobbing uncontrollably; she turned to leave to go upstairs but Marcy grabbed her by her arm and turned her around.
Lindsey sprung into action. "Hey! Don't touch her like that!" He removed Stevie from Marcy's grasp.
Stevie rushed to the stairs and went into her bedroom where she laid down on her bed sobbing.
"Marcy, I understand you're angry. But like Stevie said we didn't know or plan on us to being together again. It just happened and...just so you know, some time in the future, we will be married."
Marcy looked Lindsey straight in his eyes and said before turning and walking out the door. "We'll see about that Buckingham!"
