Stevie stayed longer than planned. Lindsey was very thankful to Stevie for helping him get through the most painful time in his and children's lives. It took a while for Lindsey to completely stop drinking. Now there wasn't a single drop of alcohol in the house. He poured all the liquor and wine down the drain.
He was now the father his children remembered. The kids were happy and well taken care of.
Will still missed his mother but he adjusted quickly. As for Leelee, it was a struggle. She would still sleep with Stevie.
One night she begged to sleep with Lindsey and Stevie in the same bed.
They gave in and Lindsey slept in the guest bedroom with Stevie and with Leelee in between them.
Lindsey began to struggle with his feelings.
Watching Stevie take care of him and his children made his feelings for Stevie bubble up to the surface. He felt guilty for falling in love with Stevie again. His wife had been dead for two and a half months now and he felt it was too soon to even think of moving on.
But here he was, in love with Stevie.
Before this, he and Stevie had been getting along well; just friends.
Then when Lindsey realized his feelings, he started to distance himself from her.
Stevie felt hurt when Lindsey started to avoid her. She didn't understand the sudden change.
She could feel the tension between them so she decided she had over stayed her stay. She started to get too attached to the kids, especially Stella. She felt she needed to go back home to think over her feelings with not just the kids but with Lindsey too.
She would go away and avoid heartbreak in the future.
After thinking a bit, she decided instead of going home, she would go on a mini get away; with Karen of course.
She will go to Hawaii. She loved it there. Being close to the ocean and hearing the waves as they roll into shore had a calming affect on her.
Stevie told Lindsey she would be going home by the end of the week.
Lindsey didn't want her to go but at the same time he thought it was best if she did.
Will and Leelee didn't want her to go of course but she had promised to visit.
On Stevie's last few days, she would stay with Leelee in her little bed until Leelee fell asleep. Trying to transition her to sleep by herself again.
On Stevie's final night, she was surprised and also relieved that Leelee fell asleep in her own room and bed without her having to stay.
She rocked and sang Stella to sleep. As she placed her down in her crib, Stevie felt a sudden rush of sadness. She held in her tears and went to say goodnight to Will.
Finally closing the guest bedroom door, she let the tears fall. She laid in bed sobbing curled into a ball not even bothering to change into pajamas. She cried herself to sleep.
There she was laying on a hospital bed. She was holding a newborn baby in her arms. Happiness flowed through her, hearing her baby coo, a tiny hand wrapped around her finger.
All of a sudden, the baby in her arms was gone. All she was holding now was the baby blanket the baby was wrapped in.
She searched around the room screaming "Where's my baby?!"
She searched and searched and finally ran into the hallway where nurses and doctors were walking around. She continued to ask and scream, "Where's my baby?!"
But no nurse or doctor turned or paid any attention to her.
Stevie woke up screaming and was drenched in sweat. She was crying so hard, she was having trouble breathing.
Lindsey came running from Stella's nursery who had just got her back to sleep.
He saw the state Stevie was in and immediately wrapped her in his arms and was saying words of comfort. Her breathing steadied but she continued to sob. She buried her face into his chest and he rocked her back and forth.
She finally calmed but tears still ran down her cheeks.
"Steph? What happened?"
"I had...a bad dream." She whispered.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"No. Just....hold me. Please. Don't let go."
"Okay, I'll hold you. Everything is okay. You're okay."
Being this close together, they both felt so comforted in each other's arms. They laid down still holding on to each other. Stevie placed her head on his chest.
They stayed quiet for a few minutes. Stevie looked up at him and stared into his eyes.
Lindsey's breathing quickened. He loved her, he wanted to kiss her, he held back for a second then pressed his lips to hers. Her eyes widened not expecting it, after the shock wore off she kissed him back with her eyes closed.
Their kiss deepened and all thoughts left their minds as they took off each other's clothes. Lindsey freed himself from his boxers and slowly entered Stevie making sure she was ready for him. She let out gasp of satisfaction, lifting up her hips a bit telling him without words that he should continue.
At first it was slow, sensual and passionate. The love between them was evident.
After a while, their need for release was getting to be unbearable and Stevie finally spoke up. "Lindsey, I love this...but I need you to fuck me harder and faster!"
Without hesitation, Lindsey did what she asked.
Stevie released herself first calling out his name, Lindsey followed right behind her a few seconds later. She felt the warmth of his release inside her.
Out of breath, Lindsey stayed on top of her for a moment as they were catching their breath. He finally pulled out and laid next to her, she snuggled up next to him. They stayed silent finally breathing normally.
Stevie spoke up telling him about her dream. He listened as tears rolled down his cheeks.
"It's not your fault Steph. You didn't do anything wrong." Lindsey said.
"But I do feel like it is my fault. Our baby was growing inside of me and it was my job to keep them safe until they were ready to enter this world." She sobbed as she placed a hand on her belly where their baby once was.
Placing his hand on top of hers he said. "Stephanie, it WASN'T your fault. Even your doctor said so. It just happened."
She continued to cry as he held her more tightly. Both exhausted they fell asleep and not waking until they heard Stella's cry.
"I'll get her." Lindsey said. "You stay and rest."
She smiled and brought the covers up to her chin.
"Hey baby girl! Good morning." Lindsey said as he picked up Stella in his arms. He changed her diaper and change her into a little outfit for the day.
It was 8:00 am Sunday morning; Stevie would be leaving soon after 10 am. He decided to make breakfast for everyone after feeding Stella as a farewell and thank you gesture to Stevie.
As he cooked, he began to think about the events of last night. His thoughts were running a hundred miles an hour. He knew he loved Stevie, they made love, and it was incredible. They relived a horrible memory in both their lives and comforted each other.
Then his thoughts rested on Kristen.
"Oh god. What have I done? It hasn't been long since Kristen....oh, fuck."
He was suddenly plagued with guilt.
"People will talk and say I must not have loved my wife because I move on so fast. Wait, am I moving too fast? Stevie and I haven't even talked about being together. We just had sex, that's all. No, we made love."
He continued his inner monologue; he was so torn.
Lindsey was so lost in thought he didn't hear Stevie say good morning. She was already dressed and had her things packed. She would head to the airport as soon as she would leave Lindsey's home.
"Lindsey?"
Snapping out of his thoughts, he turned around. "Oh hey Stevie. Sorry."
"Linds? You okay?"
"Yeah, I was just...I decided to make you breakfast before you left." He said not looking up at her.
"Thank you." She replied but she knew something was definitely wrong with Lindsey.
Stevie placed her hand on his shoulder and he jumped at her touch.
Her eyes widen at his response as tears formed.
"You...regret it, don't you?"
Lindsey sighed and turned off the stove. "I...don't regret it. But...I feel...guilty. Things went to far too fast. Kristen just died not too long ago and I feel like I cheated on her."
Stevie's stayed silent, the tears finally escaped down her cheeks.
"I'm...sorry." She whispered. "I'll just go now. I'll call Karen."
"Stevie, no, stay and eat." He said moving closer to her.
"No!" She said as she backed away. "Just so you know, I don't regret last night. As much as I tried to lock away my feelings for you, last night made me realize how much I'm still in love with you. Yes, Kristen hasn't been gone long and...I...never mind, I don't even know what I'm trying to say." Stevie sobbed, walking away.
Before leaving the kitchen, she turned and said. "I'm going to call Karen then I'm leaving and I'll wait for her outside."
"Stevie, you don't have to wait outside. How about the kids. You don't want to say goodbye to them?"
She closed her eyes and sighed. "Of course, I want to hug them and tell them goodbye but I just can't be here anymore. I need to go. Tell them I had to leave in an emergency and tell them I love them. Goodbye Lindsey."
Lindsey wanted to walk after her but stayed glued to his spot in the kitchen. He was crying now. He was crying for Kristen, for his kids growing up without their mother, for himself and for the love of his life walking out the door not knowing if he'll ever see her again.
