part 2

Model answer

The pie chart shows that there are four main causes of farmland becoming degraded in the world today. Globally, 65% of degradation is caused by too much animal grazing and tree clearance, constituting 35% and 30% respectively. A further 28% of global degradation is due to over-cultivation of crops. Other causes account for only 7% collectively.

These causes affected different regions differently in the 1990s, with Europe having as much as 9.8% of degradation due to deforestation, while the impact of this on Oceania and North America was minimal, with only 1.7% and 0.2% of land affected respectively. Europe, with the highest overall percentage of land degraded (23%), also suffered from over-cultivation (7.7%) and over-grazing (5.5%). In contrast, Oceania had 13% of degraded farmland and this was mainly due to over-grazing (11.3%). North America had a lower proportion of degraded land at only 5%, and the main causes of this were over-cultivation (3.3%) and, to a lesser extent, over-grazing (1.5%).

Overall, it is clear that Europe suffered more from farmland degradation than the other regions and the main causes there were deforestation and over-cultivation.

1.

The data shown in above pie chart is about the causes of land degradation world wide it shows the four main causes having different percentages. The major reason is cutting the trees it is of 35% second main factor is over eating of the animals which is 30% of the total over cultivation is also causing land degradation at 28% with these all there are some other reasons that contributes about 7% for the land degradation.

This all affected three main regions two of them are not highly affected like in North America there is only 0,2 in deforestation and over cultivation and over grazing is 3.3 and 1.5 respectively so the total affect is of 5% in this region that is very low in comparison of Europe where the land highly degraded by this all collectively it is 23 % the major portion of the total figure 9.8 is because of deforestation over grazing is 5.5 in the region and 7.7 is over cultivation which makes this region most affected area for the land degradation and the third region is between these two which is affected with the percentage of 13% the causes affect in the categories of deforestation and over grazing that is 1.7 and 11.3 in over grazing respectively and no over cultivation in the area.
on the whole the one region Europe had the most affect on its agricultural land due to the three main reasons where is Oceania had less suffering comparetive to the others only in over cultivation .

The pie chart shows the reasons behind land degradation on the earth and the table represents the extent of this damage in North American, European and Oceanic regions in the last decade of the 20th century.

Globally, over grazing is the predominant cause behind the downgrading of land constituting 35% and 11. 3% of land in Oceania got degraded during the ten-year- period from 1990.This was more than the double than that of Europe and almost ten times than that of North America.

Deforestation is the next major cause of global land degradation constituting 30% and Europe is the most affected area with 9.8%. Tree-clearance affected Oceania and North America to a lesser extent ,that is, 1.7 and 0.2% respectively.

Twenty-eight percentage of land degradation world wide occurs due to over cultivation and Europe is the most affected area with 7.7% followed by North America (3.3%).Other causes account for only 7%.

Overall, one can undoubtedly say that almost one fourth of land was downgraded in Europe during this period owing to various reasons which looks alarming.
