Chapter 13

"And another round goes to me...again." I said after I knock Ava on her back again. "So, what did you learn this time?"

"To not underestimate you...again." I gave her a few pokes with my training sword. It was blunt for obvious reasons, yet still hurt all the same. "Ok OK STOP." She screamed while trying to block my pokes.

"Better have a good answer." I replied while extending a hand to her

"I got careless and though I could get a hit on you...and almost did." I let go of my grip and she fell flat on her ass. "What the hell Rusty."

"The 'careless' strike you did would have only scratch me while leaving your front completely exposed." I said which got her mood down a bit. "I won't lie it did catch me off guard maybe if you have a better position during the fight and I could be on the one on my ass." I highly doubt it I could tank Lisa magic bs and Marcus bombs, but I can't crush the kid spirit...unless she becomes a problem.

I extend a hand to her again which she refused. I decided to walk back to the inn while she is following me while dusting the dirt off her 'armor'. "So, aren't you happy?"

"Happy about what?" I asked while a brow.

"You know...your dad getting married."

I stop in my tracks for a few seconds then continue walking down the streets while not looking at her. "Justino is not my dad. He is just a man who just happens to be my instructor and I beat him to become an adventure."

"Wait you beat him?!?!" She said in total surprised.

"Yea...you have to prove to your instructor to become an adventure guild member." I said while not understanding why she was surprised.

"Justino is like the best of the best how can you beat him!" She said which almost became a full-blown shout. After a few moments where she calms her nerves, We finally reach the Inn

"I punch him which cause a dent in his armor...I think. After that, we went to the front of the guild and got out tags. See?" I said while pulling out the tag around my neck that was tuck inside my armor. Upon seeing it, she became bewilderment and started asking me question which I tune her out and walk to our usual table which Lisa and Marcus were sitting playing another board game called War of Tactics. Looking at the notebook it looks pretty much what I expected, enough tally marks covering the M side while a few are on the L side.

"Ava can you shut up I'm trying to concentrate." Lisa snap at Ava which in turn just grab an empty chair and sit down. It does not get rid of the fact that Ava is shooting death glare at me almost as if I kick a puppy or something.

"Lisa you should calm down, you're overclocking your br-" I didn't get to finish my sentence when Lisa grab a knife and slam it down the table next to where my hand was...I forgot that telling people to calm down does not always work. Looking at the board, all she needs to do is reposition the archers to the side and send the footmen around for a pincer attack instead of over-reinforcing the center and she could maybe win. Instead of doing what I hope she do, she moves her wyvern riders to attack his footmen, yet they were in range of his archers and magic infantry. I could see what she was doing, but Marcus playstyle is to take things nice and slow. In a few turns, Lisa commander has fallen, and the round goes to Marcus with a decent amount of losses.

While Marcus was tracking score, Ava decided to speak up. "Did anyone of you guys know that he-" she pointed at me "-became a guild member and has a tag!" Lisa looked at Ava then pullout her tag around her neck which cause her jaw to drop. She looks between me and Lisa in a classic head turn then look towards Marcus. Honestly Marcus mask is a bit cool yet disturbing when he is looking at something for an extended period of time. "Looks like you and me are the only junior adventure here...right?" When Marcus pull out his tag that was in his bag, Ava bang her head on the table and began muttering something in a low voice. I don't understand if she is so mad or sad about us being adventures hell Marcus never do anything besides rebuilding the base and experimenting with plants in the middle of the woods. Creepy but hey he does his thing and I'll do my thing.

............................................................................................

After a few hours of playing the board game, we decided to head to sleep for the night. Ava left the inn still looking devastated at the face that all of us were adventures. When we enter out room Marcus lock the door while Lisa cast a spell which the entire room flashed green or a second. She then whistle to me. Something is not right, and I wish I couldn't feel it.

"Zack, we need to talk." The fact that Lisa of all people said this send a shiver down my spine. Not wanting to make the situation worse, I sat on my bed looking at both Lisa and Marcus who were sitting on their respective beds. For a brief moment of painful silent, Lisa began to speak. "I hate to drag this out, so I'll keep it simple. We need to get the out of here."

"Oh, thank god's green earth." I said while exhaling out the air that I didn't know I was holding in. Still, I need to know why we are bringing this up. "So...what made us come to this choice?"

Both Lisa and Marcus look at each other then back to me it was silent for a moment then Marcus decided to speak up. "We're bored here Zack. There is so much things we can do but we crave freedom. We were planning on sticking till Justino wedding then move out to a dangerous area where there is nobody around."

"You know to test out our ability and stuff" Lisa jump in the conversation.

They are hiding something that much is obvious, but they do have some points. "Alright, do we know where we're going? I rather not be a drifter going place to place."

"There is a dangerous forest called Omen Meadows." I do not like the sound of the name, but I might be wrong. "The forest is filled with dangerous monsters and beast such as Black Dire Panthers, Barlgura, Giant scorpion and other monsters that resides there along with dungeons that leak monsters out into the forest."

It took a minute to process the info that Marcus gave me "aha...and why are we going there?" I can understand Lisa going there, but Marcus is pitching the idea which is unlike him since he prefers to be safe and isolated from everybody except us.

"The forest is have lost of dangerous monsters there as well as plants. Lisa went to scout and brought some which are unknown."

I should have known that Marcus was a science man at heart and anything unknown get his rocks off. "Alright well...I want to see the wedding at least before we move. Then we'll build a house or something." I got up from the bed and did a few stretches which is weird since my body feel relaxed all the time and I don't hear the pop of my bones. "I'll be back I'm going to take a quick bath." I didn't hear their response as I walk out of the room.

............................................................................................

Marcus POV

As soon as Zack leave the room, Lisa tap my arm then looked me in the eyes.

"Why don't we just tell him the truth? Why out of all the people, do we have to lie to him?"

"Lisa listen to me." I got up from my bed and put both my hands on her shoulders. "If Zack knows the real reason why we have to leave, he WILL bring hell down on this world." I took a deep breath and rub my eyes then look at Lisa again. "Telling we have to leave because the church tried kidnapping us, in the black market no place. Zack will murder everyone associated with the church and a kingdom or two. Remember what that person told us?"

"Yes I remember what my 'god' told me 'Make sure that you don't cause chaos, I'm not the only one who is sharing this world.' It got me thinking about the idea of other worlds and other gods that existed."

"valid point but back to the topic Marcus will without a doubt will massacre the church that control about 65% of the region. Something that big will draw attention and the church worship another god beside yours will make things worse."

Lisa began to think for a second then simply shrug. "I know what the outcome will be if we tell him. I'm a petty person, but I won't tell him. I enjoy a simple life like this and want to use my magic to see what I can do."

"Whatever you do try to not to get me involve unless its important."

"Yeah yeah."

Lisa Just simply wave me off and just laydown on her bed while I remove my armor and mask before I lay down on my bed.

"By the way do you think that Zack knows that he could just click on the bed to sleep instead of drinking that potion to knock himself out?"

That question got me thinking for a moment before I realized its Zack. "I'm sure he does know,"

"Whatever" Was all Lisa said before she drifted off to sleep. We theoretically could never sleep, but I still don't know the risk of this body yet. The Idea of this body capability compare to our original both excite...and terrorize me.

.............................................................................................

Zack POV

Its been a few days since Lisa, Marcus, and I had that conversation. I will miss this boring town, the people who gave me weird looks as I walk down the streets, That crazy old paranoid lady who gave everyone weird vibes as she filling out the same request of delivering a letter to her lumberjack son a few villages over. The few adventures who keep trying to fight me before other adventure pull them away and a few who do earn a few bruises, but nothing broken sadly. That one dude who work at that one store.

As I was remembering the many places that I went too, the familiar streets, the bystanders I walk by, I hear the bells in the distance coming from the church, I look at the holographic screen that Marcus is showing us. Many of the people from all walks of life wearing different outfits that suit their culture form of a tuxedo enter the church that Justino was in.

"I guess he was really well known"

"Wasn't he an S rank adventure?"

"Don't know Lisa. All I know is that he's pretty popular" There was a sudden pain in my chest as I looked at the church on the screen.

"You know Zack, you're a very strong young man"

"I notice." As I was holding back my strength while throwing a wooden ball.

"I'm not talking about your strength" Justino caught the ball and held onto it. "Taking care of yourself is one thing but taking care of others is another."

"It's normal."

He gave a dry chuckle "I guess it's normal for you since you are used to it, but have you thought of letting someone help you for a change."

"Not really."

"Oh, don't be like that." He then began walking to one of the seats by the side of the building "Here how about this Right after the wedding, how about I-"

I wonder what will happen if I accepted his offer? Would I be standing inside the church somewhere drinking water with Lisa and Marcus? Or would they gone through with their plan and I would be left alone? Whatever the outcome may be, I already made my choice.

"Hey Lisa." I look over to my right and see Lisa laying on her back facing the sky.

"Yeah Zack?" She asked while still looking at the sky

"Did you do the things that I asked?" I just wanted to make sure I leave here with no regrets.

"Leave 200 Gold coins in the tavern compartment and deliver a gift to that one girl-

"Ava"

"yeah...Ava...I do hope you know what you are doing?"

"Just something to help her along the way, a farewell gift you know." A special pendent that helps her a lot while cleaning out my junk inventory.

Pendent of the Swords Followers - RARE

A simple wooden square amulet with a hole in the center with a chain through it. It has said that a swordsman became a master before coming of age, yet he knew better.

Grants the wearer 50% proficiency bonus to swords

Experience and skill are two different ideas yet as long as one has enough to compensate the other it should work out...right?

-Benny Kodel before charging to the front lines for the first time.

"A pendent that boost proficiency with swords. Wasn't her dream to become a Sword Saint or something like that? The boost will help a lot, but if she were to fall in battle and someone else wor- "

"Then I will deal with it when the bridge is crossed. Anyway, let's get moving."

Marcus looked up from his data pad "Are you sure Zack? We have a long way to go and the wedding about to start."

"I'm sure...let's just go." Marcus dispel the projection and we began walking through the forest on the outskirts of the town. The thing I will miss the most of all is the chance of having a semi-normal life.
