The final scene, the chapter's end at last,
As hero, beaten, mounts a bold advance
To burn to dust what many years have passed
Since last the music moved his feet to dance.
His dreams are stirring in his pointed hat.
As, lonely, he will steer himself ashore.
His mates, his men, fled easily as rats
When saw they rougher waters rising fore.
But hero stood, through worse and worser still
As poisoned water rushed into the hull.
Above, the vultures urge, himself to kill
Before the eagle bald devours his soul.
This curse will end, which binds him to the sea
If he retrieves the map to destiny.
