An Unknown World: A Mermaid Story

Prologue

Imagine.  Breathing without gills.  Walking with two legs.  Ha what a thought....

   I live free.  I live beneath the surface of the ocean.  Where dolphins whistle and fish play.  Where pearls shine and clams glow.  Where humans never stray in.  I never thought I'd leave the ocean.  It started one day when I was a young mermaid.  I'd say 12 was the age.

"Miracine the ocean is not a place to play.  Stray too long and you'll be lost.  But it's as beautiful as any gem you ever seen.  Lights and an unknown world.  Just be careful, you'll never know what you will find.  I know your old enough to go there, but I'm still not sure."

"I'm sure it will be fine, Azurine" I couldn't wait.  Today was the day.  The big day.  The day my fins grew and wouldn't slow me down.  Where I could go to any water consuming place without getting stranded.  Where my speed would be fast as water jets.  Where pearls grew on my tail to allow me to swim faster.

Here I go.  I spread my fins and the current threw me out.

"Miracine!  Wait!" The mermaid called after me.  But I didn't care.  I was going to spread my fins and swim away.  "Miracine!  Be careful of the....."

"What?" But the words of the mermaid were lost with the current.  What was Azurine going to say?  Is Azurine just telling me to be careful?  Be careful of what?  I shook my head and dismissed that thought.  It's probably nothing.

Guess what... biggest mistake.

POP

BANG

My sweet angelfish!

What was that noise?

I looked up and I saw lights.  Millions of lights were above glowing. There were several colors. Goldfish, red snapper, violet-eyed-fish, coralpink, bluegill, and yellowtang.  It was above everything.  Everything I knew of.  What was it?  I did not know.

The water.  I looked up.  It almost parted.  I reached my hand up and I felt almost different surroundings.  What was it?  It was dry feeling.  Was this above the all?  Was this the above I heard about.  The place dolphins spoke of.  Should I go?  Should I explore?

I shall.

I went up.  I reached my head above the water.  Wow!  Incredible. Glowing gleaming lights were everywhere.  Humans.  Wow I always heard about these creatures.  Some of the elders always told me stories about them.

They told me of a mermaid prince that got turned into a blobfish from sea sorcery and the way it could be broken would if a mermaid princess kiss the blobfish.  There was this other story.  A mermaid was born and everyone got invited, but a sea serpent.  This angered the serpent, so he made sure on her sixteen birthday she would cut herself on coral and die.  Then an eel as kind hearted as thee made so she would sleep a hundred years and then she shall wake with a kiss of a prince's lips.  There were stories about stepmothers' being jealous of their young mermaid children and sent them away to die.  There were stories where mermaid daughters were being slaves to the entire family, and wouldn't be saved until she swam her night away with the prince of the kingdom.  Oooh lala!  Then there was lastly the story where a mermaid turned into a human.  I never remembered the details of that one.  No one told it much.  But here I was looking straight at human life.

It was a show.  On the sea with this moving platform.  A ship I think.  I seen sunken ships before.  They hold mysterious items.  With colorful lights in the darkness.  Wow... It's so beautiful, I could sing a melody.

Fade away

I sang happily remembering lyrics that many sang.  Then I opened my eyes.  I heard an odd noise.  What was that?

Crash

Wooooooosh

Bang

Shwoooosh

Lightening.  Thunder.  Darkness.  All of the human lives stopped dancing and playing music.  They stopped eating.  They had fear shown on their faces.  Then all of the sudden several were dropping into the sea below.

Whaaaat?!  Why did they?

There were a group of three.  A girl and two boys.  The girl had light honey golden hair and emerald eyes.  She wore a blue flowing dress.  The boy to her left had brown staggered hair and ....Wow his eyes glimmered in the night.  His sapphire eyes.  He wore a bluegill coat too.  The other boy had blond hair to the side and smoky quartz eyes.  He wore a white shirt and his red jacket was on his shoulder.  They all looked frightened.  I knew why everyone was jumping.  It was going to crash.  The ship.  Their party, their festival was going down.  It was going to sink.  But they weren't doing anything.  All of the sudden their were lifeboats.  Oh thank goodness!  Then the girl and blond haired boy jumped.  They landed on the lifeboats.  The brown haired boy stood there frozen on deck.  Why wasn't he jumping like his friends?  How terrible!

The water comes up to the ship.  No!  I always heard why humans never went too deep in the water.  They couldn't leave the deep if it gets in their breaths.  The water would shut them down and cause them to parish.  They couldn't breathe it.  Then at the last second he jumped.  But... he missed the lifeboat.

"Nooooooo!"  I screamed but no one could hear.

He couldn't swim.  He sank down.  He was going to parish.  I can't stand that.

"OOOooooohhhhhoooo!   AAAAhhhhhaaaaaaah!   LLLLAAAAAAlllaaaaaaa!"  I sang whistling in the water.  Soon a bottle-nosed dolphin was by my side.  I carefully held the brown haired human and put him on my dolphin friend.  "My friend please help me get him to the nearest land!"

"Eek Eek!" Saya the dolphin responded and we both began to travel.  He was unconscious when I got to him.  We were halfway above water and halfway under.  I held him on Saya and she helped carry him to wherever the nearest land was.

Shore.

I spotted shore ahead.  I could hear fish sing with joy.  I lifted him off Saya and got him on the sand.  Wow....his face is beautiful.  I wonder he looks similar to my age...are we the same?  I do hope he's okay.

I stayed for awhile.  No one came.  Is he okay?  If he wasn't I wouldn't be able to forgive myself.

Then I slowly took off the pendant I always wear.  It could help him.

"Please help him" I whispered and all of the sudden it began to glow.  I heard him move and breathe out.   His eyes were closed still, but I knew he would be fine.  "Remember me and keep my pendant until I return again"

I watched from a distance.

Soon he opened his eyes.  His beautiful sapphire eyes.

"I am safe?  I remember drowning and....Ashton?  Melody?" The browned haired sapphire eyed human was confused.  He looked around trying to find the other two he was with.  "How did I get here....."  Then he noticed me in the water.

All of the sudden I got extremely nervous.  What do I say.... Does he know I helped him? I sunk down where only my face would show.  We were both starring at each other not saying anything.

"Hey.....do you know where I am?" I shook my head I didn't have the exact location. "Ohh... That's alright. What are you doing over there?"  He smiled.  He has a nice smile.  Wow.  I couldn't believe it.

"Somewhere in the pacific ocean....." I spoke softly.  I looked over at my pendant that was on the sand.

"I'm Seivon, is this yours?" He picked up the pendant admiring it.  It saved him.  I smiled nodding.

"Are you okay?  You almost perished in the pacific" His eyes went wide.  Did he realize I helped him?

"Yeah I am I think...Did you....bring me here?

I've been thinking I should head back.  They might be worried.

"Ye.....eah" I whispered.  He got up brushing the sand off him.  He began to walk towards me in the water. "Wait!  Don't come."  He was confused.

"Why...?  Don't you want your pendant?"  All of the sudden I heard other voices.  His friends.

"Look!" I pointed and without a minute to loose I went down.  He was looking all around.  He noticed I was gone and held the pendant.  "Remember me and please keep it until I return" I risen before going down again

"Wait....don't go" His lips moved.  Staring at him makes me faint.

"My name is Mira-"

"Sei!" A girl's voice called.  "Sei where are you?"

"It's your friends, I should go"

"How did you know...." I shrugged.  Then I saw.  It was the two from before.  I had to go.  I jumped down throwing my arms in the water.  He opened his mouth.  I guess he never seen a mermaid before.  But don't worry, you're the first who spoke with a mermaid. I smiled as I hid behind a rock.  Please keep it safe.

"Seivon!  There you are!" It was the honey haired girl and the blond haired boy.  "I was worried something happened to you"

"Yeah....I'm....fine" He responded still in shock.

"Hey Seivon, are you okay?  You seem outta it" Seivon nodded.

"Melody....Ashton, I'm fine.  Don't worry.  So where are we?"

"Home!  Oh I can't wait the summer is almost over............"  It was my queue to leave.

I filled my arms in the water and I began to swim.  Away I went and I just hopped we could meet again.  I went through the bubbles and jets.  I swished through the current and waterways.

But something was off.

"Oh goodness you are back!  We need to leave immediately!" Azurine came to me.  What was going on?

"What is going on?"

"Darkness is destroying the ocean.  They are trying to rule it.  We must leave temporary.  Don't worry, young princess we are strong and we will leave until it passes.  Maybe if every princess does that then we will still be able to survive!"

"We are leaving?"

"Yes for four years"

Oh.

Sadness filled me.  I loved this part of the ocean.

"Soon there will be a time will you are able to adventure and explore some more.  Right now you won't be able to.  For now, focus on your studies.  Many would love to be in your fins.  But now or the near future isn't the time.  Await until then and maybe a miracle will happen"

Chapter 1:

Miracine N. Seaton

🎵 I wasn't even trying to fall but you happened and sparked flames inside my heart.

I had left you and the next moment, the ocean world had fallen apart.

And I was forced to depart.

Staying away from the sea I yearned to you like a dolphin in the deep.

Taking reality as it is, I may never see you since then

All I could do was wish we could meet once again

Cause surviving life on land is much harder than I thought

You could be anywhere on the land of the surface world

And still you never get close

Yet on the surface

My fin feels like it is ripping from a sword

It burns me inside, but

I think it is true I am in love with you

I want to hold you close to me, I want to feel you there with me

I want to hear that you are in love with me and it isn't wrong to fall for me

Let me be in your surface world where this story can come true

Why are you someone who is opposite from me that I cannot be with

And I see it with my eyes, this dream of mine that haunts me at night

Showing a reality for the two of us

But it can't be fate people from the opposite worlds must never be together

I'm drawn to you even if you are near or far

Let me kiss you where it is miss

Can I loose myself in another world just where it us two

Can I live in a surface world with you? 🎶

The words flow of my tongue.  Wow...  Just wow.  I don't think I've been the same.  After that day everything changed.  And it wasn't just me.  The ocean was in danger.  I heard each princess was taken to evacuate.  We were taken to land and the elders helped us.  Together they put their shells and pendants together.  Together they held hand to hand.  And our fins split into two and flesh bore where are fins were.  We could walk.  It was nothing we ever thought we'd do.

I was the exception.  Something been bothering me since.  The male human named Seivon.  He turned me away from reality.  He made me see something else.  A flame decided to burst inside of me.  And not only did both of our worlds have fallen apart, but so did I.  But I just hope I could find him and see him.  Not in any of these four years I've been above the surface on this land have I seen him.  But I hope....I just wish we'd meet again.  And he can give me my pendant.  And maybe he feels the same way about me as I feel about him.  Maybe he loves me too.

I am 16 years.

Four years ago I saved a human from perishing and that moment changed everything for me.

As unbelievable and stupid as it sounds I found my first love.

And that same day a dark force took control of many parts of the seas.

Those dark forces are now in the ocean destroying and trying to find each princess.

Yes I'm a princess of the deep Pacific: The Kimoshei Princess.

The princess of the Rivalkai is located in the Atlantic, princess of Mulikawa is located in the Indiana, princess of the Sherolica is located in the Southern, and the princess of the Nerkawai is located in the Arctic.

And now I have to pretend to be a normal human.

Azurine has been staying with me and decided that we shall go to a different land in the pacific.  Not only that but she decided that I, Miracine N. Seaton as the human surface calls me should go to school and what normal 16 year olds do.

I was on a plane with Azurine E. River looking out the window.  I felt something tingle as I looked below the skies.  Was it the fact I was directly above the ocean?  Or maybe this screen in front of me played a film that seemed to be quite the fairytale.  A romance, quite lovely one I never seen before but atlas I'd say I'm very into it.

Then the female human and male human slowly kissed each other.

After a few mermaid tears, betrayal, romantic feelings, I found out something else.

Heartbroken is a feeling and maybe I just might get that along with unrequited love

But I'm still upset...She broke that promise and he perished.

"Miracine...." Azurine calls besides me.  "We are going to land soon and while your at it maybe you should get some tissues."  How embarrassing!  She could tell I had tears.  Those crocodile tears just won't stop.

"We have landed in the AES please exit the airport slowly to the front."

Finally.  

Suitcases.                    Check

My fish friend.            Check

Myself.                           Check

Azurine's pendant.   Check

Alright!

Wow.... I scanned the house I would be staying with Azurine.  She was 12 years my senior.  It was on the seaside.  Seafoam walls and turquoise floors.  Silver railings, windows, and chandeliers.  A lavender color bedroom with gold trims.  In the room was a balcony that looked out to the ocean.  Once the furniture was up, there was a notice on my desk.  It was an enrolled form to Winston East Seaside Academy.  Or WES Academy for short.

Uhmmm....the alarm!

Oh no!

I'm going to be late.  I read many stories these past four years and I hope its nothing like that.  

...

I arrived at an office in the school with a human adult writing on paper.

"Oh?  Hello, can I help you?" She looked up and asked me.  She had brown hair and hazel eyes.  I hope I didn't look out of the ordinary.  I probably just look like my hair was dyed.  I had dark violet hair and marine blue eyes.  When I had tails they were aquamarine and turquoise.

"I'm new here.  I'm looking for my classes." The human stared at me for awhile before breaking into a smile.  I had that affect on humans.  They would get caught up in my voice that they would forget what I was doing.

"Oh!  You must be....Mear-uh-cen?"

"Actually it's My-ruh-sign (Miracine) Seaton." Another student walked in and waited patiently behind me.  "So my classes?  Where do I go?"

"Ah...Kaisa!  Would you show Miracine around and get her to all of her classes."  The office person showed me my schedule and I turned to face Kaisa.  She had pale blue hair.  She must of dyed it, maybe I'll fit in after all.  She also had blue grey eyes.

"I'm Kaisa.  Follow me and I'll show you around Miracine" I nodded my head and at once we arrived at a class.

"Oh hello?" An older human male turned to me when I entered.  "Oh you're the new transfer student right?  Please introduce yourself!"  Gulp.  Introduce myself?  What?!

"I'm Miracine N. Seaton I moved here from an island in the pacific." Students chuckled at this.  I guess because we're still in the pacific.  "I'm 16 and I like dolphins.  They are cute, friendly, and very cuddly!" As soon as the words cuddly left my mouth snickering was heard throughout the class.  Oh grow up!

"Ah that's nice please sit down."  The teacher was teaching about the seas.  How ironic.  He was teaching about how the seas haven't been the same and describing it four years ago and today.  I could inform him everything, wow this is so easy.

Hahaha I thought to myself and all of the sudden class was over and students walked over to me.

"Oh were you paying attention?  I guess its the first day but you need to pay attention?"

"I alr-"

"Oh ignore her, Melody is obsessed with making sure everyone does everything perfect.  I'm Ashton"  A brown haired male human frowned at the honey blonde female human.

Those names....where have I heard them before?

"I have to g-"

"Would you like to sit with me and my friends at lunch?" The honey blonde girlfriend said again Can't get a word out in this place....

"Actually I'm going to go" I stand up looking around for the pale blue haired girl.  "ummm Kaisa would you show me the way"

"Yea come on, this way!"

"Who is she?" I heard another voice ask as soon as I left the room.

"She's so mysterious and the way she talks is so....secretive and I......." The honey girl answered him and I walked away and couldn't hear anymore.

"....That's the music room and this is the lunch hall." Kaisa was explaining to me where everything was.  I was thinking about that girl's offer from before.  To sit with them at lunch would be fine, but she seems like someone who has lots of friends and big crowds.  I wouldn't want everyone to know about me.  I can't just tell anyone about me.  I am from the sea.  I barely know anything and I feel like someone will find me odd.  The dark forces that been spreading evil in the oceans could be out about looking for me.  If they see they could try something.

"Attention students PE will be located on the beach for the swim practice."  What?!  MY DOOM!  I...I can't go anywhere in the ocean or they will know immediately who I am.  I must think of something.  I can't swim and even if I was safe the moment these two flesh splitting tails touch this water my shells will grow causing scales to form on my flesh.  Gills will form on my neck and as before I'd be a finned one.

"You don't swim do you?" Kaisa looked at me nervously.  She instantly became pale and worry instantly was shown in her face. Wow, she doesn't like swimming either.

"No....I don't like to swim around people" I shook my head.

"Neither do I, so instead we can sit on the sidelines together if we end up having to swim."

"I would love to!" I giggled locking our arms together. "See you later, I have to get to my next class."

"Same here" She flipped her pale blue hair to the side and grabbed her stuff and headed to the opposite direction.  I was going to a class called English.  One of the famous languages in this world.  

Before I knew it I was out looking in the windows.  The sun was shinning and the clouds were a bright albino color or as humanics know it white.  There were a group of students along of what must be a PE teacher.  I didn't know what but something was drawing me there.  I wanted to be there.  I don't know why.  It's like I needed to.  Like something was telling me to.

Ignoring the fact I had to go to my own class I let those feet take me to wherever I was drawn.  I let myself be pulled outside with the sandy beaches and breezes of the salty sea air.

Several questions pondered through my head. 

What am I thinking?

Shouldn't I go back inside?

Are you crazy?

Suddenly out of nowhere a piercing scream was heard.  I looked around and saw the humanics....or should I say humans as what they call themselves running away from the beach.  A giant wave of water was coming crashing towards them.  The winds were at high speeds and everyone was screaming and then I saw a tiny glint around someone that made me want to go out there.  It was drawing me in.  I had to get it.  I needed it.

"GYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" The high pierce scream came again and before I knew it the glint disappeared along with several humanics.  Oh no....the giant waved crashed down sinking them into the chaos.

My feet were frozen.

How could something like that happened?

A tiny glint that was drawing me in?

That was no glint.

The only thing it could be was a mermaid's shell or pendant.

And these waves...they were created by no other than the dark demons of the sea!

"Somebody help!!  Two of my best friends aren't coming back up!" The blonde honey girl 

Without even thinking, I sprung myself from the academic porch sand into the ocean blue.

Why did I do that?

Someone might see....but I have to help.

Dark waters were around me and I felt this sickly feeling.  Ughh.  Where were those humanics that weren't coming up.

I began swimming into the deep.  Deeper.  Deeper and deeper.  Ha if I were around humanics they would be joking about how I'm going deeper into the sea.

And then I saw them with dark sea flubber wrapped around them.....or should I say him.

Seivon.

The boy I longed for who has my heart and my sea pendant.
