The Tale of Lincoln

Lincoln was walking around the market with his disguise on, making sure nobody knew he was from the Fire Nation. Next to him was Iroh, as they were looking around, enjoying the sites. Iroh smiled as he saw a basket and inspected it, "If this is for a romantic occasion, may I suggest this lavender one?" the shop owner said as he walked to them

"It's not a romantic picnic, but it is a special occasion," Iroh said as he took out some money

"Hey, let me pay for it," Lincoln said as he took out his money

"Are you sure?"

"I'm sure, you've probably done this for a few years. I think it's my turn," Lincoln stated as he paid for the basket. Iroh smiled as he picked it up and placed it on his back, "That's very thoughtful of you, Lincoln. But are you sure you should be spending money like that?" Iroh asked

"I don't really have much to spend it on here, most of the joys I knew, I can't get here... well, except for a few," Lincoln said with a smile

"Ah, yes, those adventure-novels you love so much," Iroh said as they walked by a flower pot with a Moon-Flower in it. Iroh pushed the flower into the shade, and pretty soon it started to bloom, "Moon Flowers like partial shade, try to remember this, okay?" Iroh stated

"Y-yes! Thank-you! I've tried to get that thing to bloom for a while now! Have a nice day!" the shop-keeper said as he bowed them good-bye

"Sometimes it's better to be out of the spot-light than to bathe in it," Lincoln said sagely

"Or, maybe the flower doesn't like getting a tan?"

"Can flowers get tans?"

"I don't know, but I'm not willing to sacrifice a flower to find out," Iroh replied. They continued walking through the market as Iroh and Lincoln looked at everything that was for sale. Things started to slow down when they heard crying. Turning around, they saw a little boy crying while his mother was trying to calm him down, "It's okay, it's okay, shhh, shhh," the mother pleaded as Iroh saw that they were right next to a bunch of liuqin's. Iroh quickly grabbed on and started singing, "Leaves from the vine, falling so slow. Like fragile tiny shells, drifting in the foam. Little soldier boy, come marching home. Brave soldier boy, comes marching home," Iroh sang, making both Lincoln and the boy smile. Iroh bowed down as the boy laughed, and then proceeded to pull his beard, "YEOW!" Iroh cried, but still smiled. The boy's mother thanked him and then walked away, the boy laughing while doing so, "That was nice of you," Lincoln said

"Any act of kindness, no matter how small, is still kind. Even if the end results aren't what you planned," Iroh said as he rubbed his chin

"I can see that," Lincoln giggled. As they continued to walk, they decided to take a short cut through an alleyway and saw a c bunch of children earth-bending while playing soccer. They brought up the earth in a circular formation when the ball accidentally bounced the wrong direction and headed for Lincolns head. Lincoln quickly ducked as it went through the window behind him, "Sometimes, kids, it's best to live up to your mistakes," Lincoln said as they heard and felt loud footsteps from the other side of the wall

"WHEN I GET MY HANDS ON YOUR KIDS, THIS WINDOW WON'T BE THE ONLY THING THAT WILL BE BROKEN!" a loud voice echoed

"But not this time, run!" Iroh shouted as they all ran away. Lincoln followed behind his adoptive-father as they kicked up a dust trail. They leaped into another alley as Iroh dropped the basket and peeked onto the main road. Lincoln looked over Iroh's shoulder when they heard, "You two!" and turned around to see a man with a knife, "Give me all your money!"

"What are you doing?" Iroh asked

"I'm mugging you two!" the mugger said

"With that stance?" Lincoln asked, making all of them look down at the man's legs, who were bent in an awkward position. Lincoln sighed as he pushed the man while taking his knife. The mugger fell to the ground as he handed the knife to Iroh. Iroh smirked as he extended his hand to help the man up, "With a poor stance like that, can easily be knocked over, as my son here has shown," Iroh explained. Iroh then got into a stable and core stance, "With a solid stance, you are a much more serious threat," Iroh explained as Lincoln walked over tot he man and straightened him up

"Better," Lincoln commented

"Yes, much better... but to tell you the truth, you don't look like the criminal type," Iroh said

"I-I know, I-I'm just confused," the mugger said as he looked down in sadness

"Tell us all about it, we got time," Lincoln said as he sat down.

Later:

"Y-you really think I can be a good masseur?" the mugger asked as he sipped tea

"Of course, anyone can become anything if they put their mind to it," Lincoln said

"The key is to not give up, no matter how tall the mountain is," Iroh stated, pouring himself some tea

"This is so great! Nobody has ever believed in me!" the mugger said with a smile

"While is it always best to belive oneself, a little help from others can be a great blessing," Iroh said as he started to drink his tea.

Later:

Lincoln and Iroh sat upon a hill overlooking Ba Sing Se. The sun was about to go down as Lincoln took a deep breath, "Ahh, this is nice," Lincoln whispered

"Yes, it is," Iroh replied, taking off his hat. Setting the basket at his side, Lincoln got on his knees as Iroh took out several objects from the basket. Lincoln grabbed a rock and placed it against the tree on the hill as Iroh took out a piece of paper and placed it against the rock. Iroh took out two incense sticks and handed one to Lincoln. Lincoln pinched the tip of the stick, lighting it on fire, and placed it in the incense holder in front of the picture of his brother, Lu Ten. They soon started to sing together.
