Happy new year everyone, its 2017! Wow! Well I hope you all have a great year and enjoy this oneshot!

Ichigo grabbed Rukia's hand, pulling her away from the loud crowd to a more quite and peaceful section of the festival. In two minutes, 2016 would officially be over and a new year would begin. Rukia gave Ichigo a confused look but he ignored it.

"What are we doing here?" Rukia asked, "It's going be new year soon, right? I thought it was important to celebrate these moments with loved ones?"

"That's right," Ichigo answered as he laid out a picnic rug, "It is important to celebrate these moments with loved ones..."

Rukia turned and looked out on the lake, Ichigo had chosen a spot by the shore of the large body of water. They would be able to see the fire works perfectly here, so why was nobody else around? "Where is everybody?" She asked knowing she was starting to get annoying.

"All the food and games is where we just were, I guess nobody wanted a spot so far away."

Rukia sat down next to Ichigo, there was little under a minute remaining. How long had she spent with Ichigo? How many battles had they fought together, how many new things had he taught her? Rukia closed her eyes, she knew she was happy to have such a nice friend. She couldn't deny that she had grown feelings for the carrot top, but she wasn't quite sure he felt the same way. After all, humans and soul reapers are entirely different. One being dead, and the other alive.

"10 seconds," Ichigo whispered next her, she was sure he had gotten closer to her than before.

"5," the chanting voices of other people counting down rose from the other side of the lake, Rukia smiled.

"3" Ichigo was much closer to her now, his face was only inches apart from hers, she could practically feel his breath.

"2.." if it were somehow possible, Ichigo was even closer now, Rukia new what this meant. But did she really want it?

"1." There was no time left to think.

Ichigo pulled Rukia into a gentle kiss while fire works blossomed into life with vibrant colours all around them. Rukia now new what she wanted, to always stay at Ichigo's side.

She kissed back.
