Chapter 30 (Edited)

That night, we stopped at a Ruby Tuesdays. I lost track of where we were at, as I thought about everything that had happened. David and Laura had explained to me that there are other "creatures" that live on New Earth, working along with the humans... or Huyters, making sure that people, like me, were safe.

My head started to pound with all this new information. How was it that a few days ago I thought I was just a normal human being, with the only problem being math? Now, I'm supposed to save not one world but multiple with others that we haven't found yet.

"Come on, Eira, let's go in," a voice said, breaking from my tumbling thoughts. "The others are waiting for us." The voice was soft and had maybe a sense of pity in it.

I lifted my head off of the window and blinked, trying to break me out of my thoughts. I blinked, again, to see that it was David in the van with me and not Laura "Uh... all right," I said, cautiously. I went to open the door, when I was stopped by a sigh and a few words that I didn't expect to hear.

"I'm sorry," David said, finally, not looking at me but looking outside. "All my life, after I've met Raphael, I've been moving around, trying to protect him, because-"

I looked away, regret, filling my system. "Because, I don't remember who I am or anything like that," I said coldly, even though it wasn't directed him but at me and Bane.

He sighed, again. "I guess, what I'm trying to say is that I was blaming you for the problems that your uncle had caused us."

I shook my head, hating that David had called him my uncle. "Don't call him my uncle," I spat, clenching my hands together. "He doesn't deserve to be called that." I sighed and leaned my head on the window, again. "And, I guess... I don't blame you for blaming me. I would have blamed if we were switched in positions."

David looked up at me. "Sooo... are we cool?" he asked.

I smirked. "If you help me out with all this stuff that is happening and help me learn my powers, again. Then, maybe," I replied, innocently.

David blinked, confused, before shaking his head, a smile breaking onto his face. "As you wish, Princess," he said.

I sighed in relief and nodded my head. "Now, let's get in there, because, somehow, I'm starving." I opened the door and got out, closing it behind me.

David nodded his head and followed me into the building.

We stayed silent, thinking whatever we were thinking about. However, for some reason, the small conversation we had made us understand each other a little better. Right then, I guess I can say that we are at peace with each other.

Ralph jumped out, when he saw us. Relief filled his face as he saw that neither one of us were injured. "You're all right," he said, grinning at me.

"Of course, she is all right," David said, annoyed making Ralph look down instantly. "Why wouldn't she be?"

"Well, to answer your question, personally. He thought that you might hurt me. We both know that you couldn't stand me until our little conversation," I replied, innocently.

David raised an eyebrow at me but didn't say anything about it, as the waitress came over to us.

"Hi, I'm Laurie and I'll be your waitress this evening," the waitress said, looking directly at David, and she batted her eyelashes, making it look like that she had something in her eye. She had this New Jersey accent and a lot of make-up. She was just plain gorgeous, making me and Laura feel like a piece of crap on the side of the road.

David cleared his throat and moved a finger through the collar of his shirt. He seemed to be a little nervous, as he looked over at us before looking back at her. "I-I would like warm water, with no ice, two Cokes, one Diet Coke and..." He glanced at me.

"A Sprite," I said, seeing that he didn't know what I wanted. I frowned silently, because I didn't know why he wanted warm water. I vaguely heard Ralph clear out his throat and a small glance at him told me that he was trying to fix the hair that was sticking up in the back.

Laurie grinned, a movie style smile, and nodded her head. "Of course, Suga'," she said. "I'll be back with your drinks and then we can order. I would like you tonight. Me-ow." She moved her hand to make a claw, before walking, probably trying sashay, away.

David sighed in relief and leaned back in his seat. "Gods, I hate Sirens," he said, closing his eyes, partially.

Laura snorted. "Of course you do," she said, bitterly. She folded her arms across her chest and leaned back in her seat. "I saw how they look at you."

"They always look at us that way, Laura," David said, softly moving a hand through his hair, sheepishly. "Besides, they can't be more beautiful than you," he muttered, so soft that only I heard him, because I was right next to him.

I stared at him, before looking at Laura. Now, I knew that both liked each other, but they were both stubborn and didn't say anything. "Now, why is it that you ordered warm water?" I asked, changing the subject. I turned to look at, David, again.

David shot me a grateful look and nodded his head. "You need to focus your energy, and see if you can't control it. Laura told me about the snowflake on your wrist." I shot Laura a glare. "Because, I asked her how you sent that ice ball at my head. You needed your stone to do that." He had a look of approval in his eyes. "But, you need to learn how to control your powers, even when you are not angry."

I nodded my head and kept silent, as Laurie came back over to us.

"Here you are, Dolls," Laurie said, placing the drinks down on the table. Her blonde hair flowed off her shoulders, as if there was a wind that only blew through her hair. She glanced at me and a small sneer appeared on her lips. "And you are?" she asked.

"No one important, to you," I shot back, impatiently. "So, can you take our order and go away. I would like my dinner, sooner than later." I wanted to say practice, but... not gonna happen.

Laurie scoffed and took our orders. She kept glancing at me, dislike in her eyes. I could tell that she knew who I was, as she started to walk away.

"She knows," I muttered. "How does everyone else know and I didn't?"

"Because," Laura said softly, pity filling her voice. "If you did find out, then Bane would have found out, earlier. He had some clues, but he didn't know for sure."

I sighed and nodded my head. "How close are we to Seattle? Adele did say that we needed to stay away from there."

"We should be there in the morning," David replied. "But don't worry about that. Right now, focus on the water and try to freeze it without touching the glass."

"Bu-"

"No, buts. Just, try."

I sighed and nodded my head, before looking at the steaming water. "It's not working," I said, after a few minutes.

"No talking, just concentrate. Picture the molecules in your mind and slow them down."

I grunted, annoyed but stayed silent. I studied the water and somehow, I started to See.
