Chapter 3 (Edited)

"I see that you are back, Miss Jones. Care to settle down, so we can listen to our guest speaker?" Ms. Brooks asked, raising an eyebrow at me.

I didn't say anything and gritted my teeth a little. I ignored the "guest" as I sat down in my seat. I didn't look beside me, but I knew that the seat that had been empty, was not empty. The person that made my heart pound, as if I known him, was sitting right besides me. I didn't know if I would be able to survive, if he kept glancing at me.

"Hi," Ralph said, softly. "I didn't mean to freak you out." He smiled.

"It's fine," I mumbled, slightly as I looked at the guest speaker. I frowned a little, because I "knew" him, also. I couldn't come up with a name to the face, but I did know him. Or, I thought I do.

A small piece of information came through my mind, but I couldn't get a good grip on it, wanting to see what it was about. A frown appeared on my face, as I tried to get it to stick, so I could check it out. However, I couldn't. Every time I was close, it again skirted away from me.

"Miss Jones, please pay attention. This might be on your next test," Ms. Brooks said, interrupting my thoughts.

I bit back a sigh and opened the eyes, not knowing that I had closed them. I moved a hand through my hair, watching the older man.

"It's all right, Laura," the man said, with a teasing smile. His dark, gray eyes studied me for a minute, before he looked back at her. "I wasn't starting, yet." He didn't wait for an answer as he walked forward. "My name is David Matthews, and since you all are working on rocks and minerals, Ms. Brooks asked me to help you learn them."

"So what? We can throw rocks at people?" Matthew asked, raising his hand and speaking even though he hasn't been called on. "Because, I sure do think that Eira would need some rocks thrown at her."

"At least my head doesn't rattle when I try to use my brain," I muttered barely loud enough for Janet to hear.

Janet snorted, turning it into a cough when Ms. Brooks looked our way.

"No, we won't throw them at people, but if you want to test the strength of the rocks, why don't we use your head to knock some sense into you," Mr. Matthews said.

Janet and I silently high-fived each other as Matthew went silent, grudgingly.

Mr. Matthews seemed to beam a little on his comment and shutting the young male up, making him annoyed. "Now then," he said, clapping his hands together, as if to get everyone's attention. "Let's get down to rock sorts. Shall we?"

He pulled out different types of gems. "Now, who can tell me what this is?" he asked, holding up a sapphire. "Also, tell me the Mohs Hardness and any other information that you know about the gem."

I raised my hand and another person did. I didn't really call out on things like this, but I knew stuff about Sapphires. Somehow, looking at that Sapphire made me want to know why I had learned all the stuff about them.

An image of a Sapphire appeared in my brain, not like the one that he was holding up. On the inside, it had like a snowflake on it and someone said something of it being a Key and that it would help me with my powers.

But that's silly. Right? I mean, I don't have any powers. Yes, I can make water turn into ice and cover a whole room in frost. But, that's a phase... Isn't it?

"Miss Jones," a voice snapped, breaking me from my thoughts. "You've been called on and you are not even answering. Speak now, or put down your hand."

I looked up from where I was looking at my desk, to see that Mr. Matthews was watching at me. "Ummm.. Sorry," I muttered, looking down at the desk, again.

"What's the answer, Miss Jones?" he asked, gently, probably trying to coax an unknown memory out of a box that had been sealed.

"It's a Blue Sapphire," I said. "The Mohs Hardness of is 9. Sapphires come in many different colors like blue, white, green, and purple." I frowned a little, knowing that I could tell more, but I couldn't remember it. "I-I'm sorry, I-I can say more about it but... I can't really remember what." I looked down, my face turning red a little.

"It's all right, Miss Jones. Thank you for the information," Mr. Matthews said. "Now, can anyone tell me what this stone is and anything about it?" he asked holding up a Jade.

I leaned back in my seat some, as I half listened to the rest of the class on what gems are what and anything and everything there was to know about it. My mind kept wandering back over to the Sapphire that I tried to picture. It was the one with a snowflake in it, and I was wondering where the last place I had it.

However, I couldn't really know when I had it. I just knew that I did have a gem like that, and I wanted it back.
