Chapter 27 (Edited)
A few days passed and we were still on the road to Alaska. It was taking so long and I was getting annoyed with being in the car.
We had to change the car out twice, so we can stay under the radar of everyone.
It turns out that my snoopy neighbor, Mrs. Griffith, called the police, because of the broken window and "weird-looking man coming out of her house". What she didn't know was that the man was actually a Walker, and it was sent to kill me.
"Now, why are we pulling into a police station?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "That's not staying under the radar, and I'm sure that I'm still being looked for. Because, supposedly I'm in danger because of a psychotic person and my-"
"I get it," David said, coldly. He pulled into the police station, ignoring that it might cause me sudden death. "But there is someone we need to see, so that we can make sure we will have a safe passageway all the way to Alaska."
"That won't be the case, since my uncle is the evilest and the most insane person in the world," I muttered, making Ralph snort.
"She's right, David," Laura said, softly. She glanced at him. "It won't help."
David's mouth became a firm line, because she had agreed with me and not him. "It doesn't matter. We are going into the police station." He pulled into a parking space and parked the car.
I rolled my eyes, but I didn't say, anything as I hopped out of the car. I pulled out my magical bag, knowing that I was going to need something to cover my face. I wasn't going to use a scarf, because it would look suspicious.
David looked at the bag and frowned. "I don't know why you're taking the bag. You don't need it."
You could tell that we were still having a "slight" disagreement with each other. There was probably some hatred in our relationship, also.
I ignored him, thinking about a baseball cap. My gut clenched, a little, as I thought of it, but I didn't convulse like I did last two times. I was getting better on using both my magical bag and pouch. I took the hat out of the bag and looked at it.
"Eira," David warned.
I held up a finger to silence him. I bit my lip, spying the red bill, dark blue panel, and the white A, signalling something that I've known in my second childhood. Tears blurred my vision, as I looked at the kind of beaten up cap. It reminded me of my fa- adopted father's cap.
"Are you alright?" Laura asked, looking at me. There was a small frown on her face.
"Huh?" I asked, looking up to see that they were staring at me. "Oh." I looked back down at the cap, playing with it. "Ummmm... I-I'm fine. I-I was just think about my father." I held up the cap. "My dad wa- uh- is a huge Atlanta Braves fan. He was from Georgia and used to go to all the games with his father or his buddies. That's how he met my mother, who was from Colorado."
Laura nodded her head. She didn't say anything, as she watched me, pity in her eyes.
"Well, we have to go," David said. "No more brooding." With that, he started towards the police station.
Laura squeezed my arm, reassuringly. "We'll get them back, safe and sound," she promised following David.
I shook my head hoping that that would be true. I closed my bag, biting my lip. I placed my cap on my head and put the bag on my back, wishing that they were just at home. It was my fault that they were caught in the middle of an ongoing battle between the magical world.
All I can hope, was that they were all right and safe. Or, as safe as they can be with a really insane and power hungry person.
I shook my head, stopping my thoughts about them, before I followed the rest into the police station. I wished that they had never met me.

We walked into the police station, spying that there was only one person seated at the front desk. He was eating some donuts, humming something.
He looked up, when David cleared his throat. A small frown flickered across his face, while looking at the four of us. "Yes, what is it?" he asked gruffly, raising an eyebrow. "Don't you see that I'm busy?"
"Do you like cream or chocolate filled doughnuts, Officer?" David asked, only looking at him. "I personally like cream filled doughnuts."
The man looked at David, suspiciously and blinked, trying to clear something from his eyes. "And who the hell are you? I know nobody that is fat with a red beard and black hair."
"But he doesn't- Ow! Hey, that hurts," I said, glaring at Ralph because he jabbed me in the gut. "What was that for?"
"Thank you," David said, glancing at Ralph before shooting me an annoyed look.
I gritted my teeth together. I wanted to retort back at him, but I held my tongue. It was tough, because of the way he was looking at me.
"Father, daughter commotion?" the police officer asked, raising an eyebrow. He glanced in between us, probably trying to see any similarities between us.
"More like Uncle and Niece," I replied, coldly. "My father wouldn't look at me annoyed, when I'm trying to learn about certain things."
David scoffed, but he didn't comment on what I had just said.
"Please," Laura said, looking at us, annoyed. "We are going to Alaska, and you two have been arguing back and forth. You both need to stop, now."
The officer studied us again. His gaze lingered on me a little longer, making me look down. "Take off your hat and stand up straight," he said.
"Bu-"
"Do it, please," the officer insisted. His mustache seemed to wiggle a little in anticipation.
I bit my lip as I studied him. I wanted to make sure that he wasn't some evil person dressed like a regular human being. You never know, magical things have been living on Earth for a long time.
He had maybe blue/gray eyes that seemed to change, like his eyes were mood rings. He was short and fat, maybe because of all the doughnuts he ate on the job. He didn't have any hair on his head, but he did have a mustache that looked like it was between a caterpillar and a walrus.
"Well?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "Will you do what I asked?"
Again, I hesitated, but I looked at Laura, wondering what she wanted me to do. Even though she had been evil to me and all that crap, I felt like I could trust her. It might be because of that Watcher/Holder bond that we had.
Laura nodded her head. "It's all right," she said. "You can trust him."
I nodded my head and took off my hat. I shook my head, getting rid of the hair that had fallen into face. I stood straight up and looked at him in the eye.
The Officer jumped straight out of his chair, making it land on the floor with a loud thud.He grinned at me, as if he won the lottery or something. "Come, come," he said, starting to go towards a room, with a small excited bounce in his step. "Let's check to see how everything is fairing in Alaska and where the Portal is."
"First, can you at least tell me your name?" I asked, as Ralph grabbed my wrist and pulled me after him. "And don't we need a pass or something?"
The Officer paused and nodded his head. "Oh, right. I'm getting way ahead of myself." He started back towards the desk. "I'm Deputy Joe McCarthy, by the way," he said, grabbing the passes before coming back toward us. He handed out the passes before coming over to me. He stopped in front of me. "It is nice to meet you," he said, holding out his hand for me to shake.
I hesitantly took his head and shook it. "It's nice to meet you, too," I said, hesitantly.
Deputy McCarthy shook my hand, again, before he bounded off. "Come, come, let's go," he said. He stumbled and lost his shoe. "Oops." He walked back towards it, or he limped back towards it, because there didn't seem to be anything there.
Each time his foot, without a shoe, hit the floor, there was this clip-clop, that usually came from a hoof shaped animal. Also, there didn't seem to be a foot, where one should be.
"Ummm," I said. "Not to be rude or anything, but you don't seem to have a foot."
"Yes, he does," Ralph said, looking at me weirdly. "It's in a brown sock."
"We'll talk about that later," Laura said, glancing at David. She looked at Deputy McCarthy, raising an eyebrow. "But first, we need to go to the area. We still have a long journey ahead of us."
Deputy McCarthy looked at me, his mustache wiggling a little. He nodded his head towards Laura. "All right." He placed his shoe back on, mimicking as a normal human would. However, he didn't bend down, like some people do. "Oh, yes," he said, handing us the badges. "I forgot about these."
I placed my cap on my head, before I placed the badge on. I placed my fingers on the straps and watched them.
"Ready?" he asked, looking at us. His gaze lingered on me, making me uncomfortable.
"Yes, let's go, so we can get back on the road," David said.
"Please," Laura added, looking at David.
Deputy McCarthy nodded his head. He started to walk towards the room, with us following him.
I frowned, as I saw a fuzzy shape that looked like horns. The hoof shaped sound and now horns? What did they mean?
Am I going crazy, or is Deputy McCarthy not human?
