Chapter 18 (Edited)
"You can open your eyes now," Katie said, not really amused with my silent screaming or thing like that. "Go ahead and open them," she said when I shook my head no.
I heaved a sigh and opened them. I frowned a little as I saw that there were seven pedestals, each with a symbol on the front of it. Two of the pedestals were empty, but the other five had a small stone on them.
Something about this place was familiar to me, it's like I've been here before...
A frown appeared on my face as I tried to force the thought to come forth.
"Don't force it, and you have been here," Katie said looking at me.
"How?" I asked. I frowned when I saw that I had my voice back. "How long ago?"
"When you were called," Katie replied. She gestured to the pedestals. "Go and check them out," she added not answering my question on how long ago.
I puffed my cheeks out, annoyed that she hadn't answered my question. I moved towards the pedestals, something pulling me towards the first one. I studied it, trying to figure out why it had called me over here.
"This is where your Key was," Katie said making me jump a little. A smirk appeared on her face. "Sorry, didn't mean to scare you."
I looked at the pedestal, wanting to touch it. Something told me that when I did touch it, I would be sealing my fate, again. "You don't seem to be sorry," I said, trying to buy myself some time to do it.
Katie shrugged her shoulder. "Guess not," she said, after a moments pause. She looked at my twitching hand and then at the pedestal. "Feeling the pull?" she asked, even though it sounded more like a statement than anything else. She glanced back up at with a sigh. "It's strange, to see that you are again," she said gesturing around the box. "Without anyone."
I bit my lip to keep a retort back about that. "Why is there a pull?" I asked, my voice gruff a little.
"It's because it wants you to seal your fate," Katie replied. She sighed and shook her head. "Didn't they tell you anything?" she asked. She rolled her eyes when I shook my head no, since I think she was talking about David and Laura. "Figures, leave the one to explain to the person in the box."
"So, we are in a box," I said, hoping that it didn't sound like a question at all.
Katie rolled her eyes, as if I had said the same thing again the last time I was here. "Yes, we are in a box to you and the people out there. But we are also in an alternate dimension."
"Meaning that it could be hours before I get back up?" I asked, my voice getting a little squeaky. I didn't have hours or minutes.
"No, time freezes there, partially," Katie said. Her tone sounded like she was the older one and not the other way around. "So it could be years in here but a few minutes up there. And by the way, I'm older than you think. I've done this-" She gestured at the pedestals. "-more than once, so I should know what I'm doing, but I've never had the same person twice."
"Well, now you have," I said, sarcastically. "Now can some things be said before I have to go back up there?"
Katie sighed and shook her head at me as if I'm a hopeless child. "You are impatient," she said. "But I will. So, ask away." She gestured, as if to say 'you have the floor so take it.'
I bit my lip as I wondered where I should begin. I had so many questions about me, my life, and the thing that I was supposed to be living now, but for some reason, I couldn't get anything out into words.
