6. Romance and Responsibility

In the morning, Sid was back and the herd continued on their migration to the boat. Sid tried to convince them that he had been abducted by a tribe of colorful sloths, but the group either rebuffed him or weren't listening.

Over the following weeks, Manny was making various attempts to bond with Ellie, while Diego and Kiara had already gotten over their rough patch. They were in their honeymoon phase as they kept wooing and impressing each other.

As Manny was hitting a dead end, the love cats decided to intervene. On their way, they found a beautiful willow, and made a path for the mammoths to find it. It didn't work the way they expected it to go, but at least Ellie now remembered she was a mammoth.

Kiara and Diego were sitting around the fire when Manny came back.

"Well?! How'd it go?" They asked eagerly.

"Mm. Not bad," Manny sheepishly replied, but was proven wrong when Ellie furiously walked through them, putting out the fire. The cats recoiled away from the water.

"Okay, let's go!" Ellie ordered. "We traveled with you all day, now you're coming with us at night."

"But we can't even see at night," Manny replied as the tigers looked between them.

"Then enjoy the flood."

Manny sighed and began following after. Kiara whined to Diego and reluctantly followed after them.

"What did you even say to her?"

"Nothing! I just said it was our responsibility-"

"Responsibility?! You cannot be serious!" Kiara scoffed.

"What!" Diego defended him. "He's not wrong. They're the last of their species."

"Responsibility. Last of species." Kiara rolled her eyes. "Real romantic you boys are. You see any other tigers around, D? Am I just a responsibility too?"

Oh, not this again. "What? When did this become about me?"

"You males are all the same. I'm going to hang out with some sensible company," Kiara scoffed and ran off to catch up with Ellie.

They traveled through the night in split parties, mad at each other. They were all on different wavelengths until they found themselves in one big predicament. They were stuck on a tower of rocks that could fall any moment. The key to their survival was the mammoths coming together, both physically and spiritually. The sabers reunited when they found themselves hanging on for dear life until the mammoths pulled them up to solid ground.

From then on, the herd stuck close.
