Chapter IV
London was busy. As always. They'd taken a bus to the city centre, Catherine thought Kylo would like to see what this civilisation was capable of. He was underwhelmed to say the least. "This is your tallest building?" and "Do you all just walk and drive?" were some examples of his mocking. He obviously felt superior, so Catherine took him to the airport and booked two flights to Norway. "We'll go from there to the North Pole." Catherine had convinced Kylo to go to the North Pole instead of the South. Thank god, we'd literally be a lot farther from home if we had to go to the south pole. There were some last-minute tickets available and within an hour they were through security - how Kylo had managed to get through was a mystery to Catherine - and they were seated at the gate, waiting for their call.
"How many people would die if the plane crashed?" Kylo asked out of the blue, and turned his head to Catherine. She had a look of horror upon her face.
"What are you planning to do?" She dared to ask.
"Nothing, just.. if I get in touch with my people during the flight, I won't hesitate to have them pick me up. The plane might crash though." He explained, sending more shivers down Catherine's spine.
"God, keep your voice down, will you? People are scared as they are, they don't need a lunatic to talk about crashing planes right before boarding." Catherine spoke softly. "And everyone will die. So on this flight that's about... one hundred people." She had scanned the gate quickly.
"Good." Was Kylo's simple response, and he spoke no more until they were safely aboard the plane, sat next to each other and buckled up.
Kylo had scoffed at the seat belts at first, but the passing steward had stared him down - Catherine wondered why Kylo hadn't used his power - and Kylo had reluctantly obeyed. Now he was fidgeting with the loose end of the belt.
"Are you nervous for take off?" Catherine asked him, judging him by his activity. Kylo just shot a look back that pretty clearly spelled don't be fucking ridiculous and he turned to look out the window.
Catherine had never been to Norway, so despite the circumstances, she was quite uplifted. She thought about the note she'd left behind, if anyone was going to look for her. Dear finder, please don't worry about me. I'll be back soon, or later. I chose to leave for a while, I can't say where I'm headed. Much love, Cathy. She smiled and hoped that the message would be soothing enough for her parents.
A little over five hours later, they landed in Tromsø, nearly the most northern tip of Norway. To be honest, Catherine thought they could drive to the north pole from there, but at the car rental she was told that they'd need to fly to Canada or Russia to reach the magnetic north pole going overland. From Tromsø there was a cruise ship leaving the next day, but it would cost over $20,000 to board the ship. Shit, how did I not prepare more for this? Catherine thought. She wanted to kick herself for being so naive and dumb, just flying to fucking Norway and thinking they could just stroll to the north pole from there.
"Lead me to the ship, you." Kylo said and put on a pair of black, leather gloves. How would that feel on my skin? Catherine wondered, but shook off the thought.
"Sure, whatever you want." She answered, leaving the man at the car rental shaking his head and letting out a small chuckle. Kylo froze and his face changed from bitter warm, to ice cold and mean. He slowly turned around, already raising his arm. Man, this mans's fucking temper. Catherine held out her arm to gesture Kylo to keep walking, but he'd been angered. His fingers started closing and the man started to lose his breath. Pure panic radiated from his eyes. Suddenly Catherine felt an anger boil up. How dare he just attack a man who's only doing his job? She too started to close her fingers, mimicking Kylo's motions. His arm dropped and he made a gurgling sound. He started to reach for a bundle on his right hip, but Catherine noticed and sensed a danger. The car rental man had grabbed his throat with both his hands and fled the scene, and from the corner of her eye, Catherine saw him dialling a number on his phone. He was probably calling the police. They needed to get out of here, and quick. She gestured towards the ground and the large, muscled Kylo crashed to the ground. Uh-oh. This can't be good.
"God, sorry, that was way too hard! We have to leave before we get shot by the police!" She said to Kylo. His back was turned towards her, so she couldn't see his facial expression. It was a mix of fright, anger, and amazement. She could use the force? Was that really possible? Kylo could barely control his excitement, but quickly came to senses when he heard Catherine yelling about police and all. He took on an expression of arrogance, like he usually had, and stood up from the ground. His heart felt like it was skipping every other beat. "You. Follow me." He spit out the command. He saw that she was horrified. He turned on his heel and walked right out the airport into the cold, freezing air of the northern tip of Norway.
"Hey.. uhm.. sorry about what just happened. I don't know how that happened. Do I have the same special power?" Catherine tried to make conversation, because honestly, she was shocked at her own actions. She had just nearly choked this man and threw him to the ground. "I didn't know, really."
"Would you'd just shut up and follow me, will you." Kylo's voice was full of anger. She obliged him and kept her mouth shut for the next few hours.
