Diego's birthday(request)

Request from Tannerh012

"So why are we hunting rabbits?" Julian asked Tackle puzzled, the little cub riding on his head as they were heading somewhere. "Because Julian, today is Dad's birthday and I wanna get him something very nice. And I thought that it be nice of I got him a fresh meal by catching it myself" he explained to the mammoth while keeping his eyes out for the hunting ground.

"Yeah. Oh wait so you're hunting rabbits because they're easy for you" Julian said. "Yep. I can't hunt big animals. But small ones like mice, birds and rabbits should be easier" Tackle explained. He knew his skills in hunting was not that great and there was no way he was gonna wrestle with a large mammal. Hunting can be dangerous. But smaller ones might be easier for him.

His eyes caught sight of a small meadow with some rabbits on it. There were flowers all over it which would make good hiding spots for him. "There! Over there Julian!" Tackle said exicted and he slid down the mammoth's trunk, going to some bushes.

"Ok Julian. Stay here and keep an eye out for my dad. He might notice me gone and come looking for me. I'm gonna go get a rabbit" Tackle whispered the instructions to him. Julian nodded as the cub quietly crept into the bushes and to the flowers.

Once the cub was close enough, he stood still. His eyes scanned for not just any rabbit. He wanted to get the best one. A nice large fat one for his dad. As he looked around for a few minutes, the cub spotted a nice plumped one. "Perfect. That's the one for dad" Tackle said, finding his target.

He crept closer to his target. When the bunny would run, Tackle needed to be close to stay hot on its tail. Especially when the rest of the rabbits would get startled and take off, which would make him lose his main prey. He had to stay on track to catch it. 'Ok Tackle. You've seen dad hunt a lot so you can do this' He thought in his head as he had never hunted on his own. But he saw his parents hunt many times and he has practice too. So it should be enough.

Slowly he got more closer to the bunny, and crouched down to make his pounce. The cub jumped out of his hiding spot and the rabbits scattered. Tackle kept his eyes on his prey, chasing after it. It was fast but he was faster. "Whoa!" Tackle said startled when it made a quick turned and he skidded on the ground to make his turn.

The bunny kept making turns to lose Tackle but the cub was persistent and kept going, trying to paw at its back feet to knock if off balance like his parents would do to slow the prey. Both the rabbit and Tackle vanish into some bushes with Julian watching.

"Um....Tackle? You good bud?" He called out with worry. For a few minutes, nothing was out yet and that made him more worry. Had something happen? Did Tackle get hurt? Or maybe something was hunting him and he didn't notice.

"Um little T? Say something to me because I don't know how Diego will feel if you got hurt" he called out to him but what he didn't know was that someone was walking by and overheard him.

"What do you mean by that?"

Julian froze at that voice and slowly turned his head around. Diego was behind him with a firm look, catching his friend on what he said. "D-Diego!  Hey there my tiger brother! Happy birthday! How's it going?" He stuttered nervously as the brown sbaer approached him, suscpious.

"Julian. Where's Tackle? Last I saw him, he said he was going to play with you. Here in the meadow" he explained, approaching the mammoth. He thought he drop by and check on his son but now he sensed something happened.

"Wait Tackld told you were he was going?" Julian asked surprised and that made Diego more suspicious. "Yes. Why? You act like Tackle didn't tell me where he was going" he told him back, having the mammoth cornered at a tree with no escape. "Oh um of course he would tell you. Your his dad so you definitely need to kne" Julian said nervously, finding it hard to keep his cool with a dad saber looking for his cub.

"Julian...." Diego said serious as he placed his paws on his tusks, making heavy eye contact. "Where's Tackle?" He asked him firmly with a growl as the mammoth got nervous on what to say.

"Papa!"

Once Tackle's voice came up, both turned to heads to his voice. The cub was running to them both. Julian and Diego smiled relieved to see him ok. But the saber noticed his cub had something in his mouth. He let go of Julian's tusks and walked over to his son.

"Hey bud. What's that in your mouth?" He asked confused as Tackle got closer. The cub set it down before him and Diego's eyes widen at what he saw. It was the rabbit Tackle was chasing. He was able to catch it and bring it back.

"Tackle...where did you get that rabbit?" Diego asked warily, wanting to make sure that was not someone else's kill. "I hunted it dad. All by myself. It's for you. Happy birthday" he told him with a big, beaming smile, glad that he was able to catch a meal for his father.

Diego couldn't believe what he saw. His son, a cub, actually manage to hunt and catch something on his own. Diego sniffed the rabbit and for sure, he could smell Tackle's scent on it from the catch. "Tackle. You caught this by yourself?" Diego asked wanting to be sure he heard right.

Tackle nodded to him excitedly as his dad slowly smiled. "Tackle that's incredible! You actually manage to catch your first prey! Good job!" Deigo said proudly, rubbing his little head. He was little down to miss it but he was proud to see his son succeed in his first hunt.

"Thanks dad. Happy birthday" Tackle said, rubbing his leg. "Aw thanks bud" Diego told him as he nuzzled his cub while Julian watched, happy for them both.
