Den Searching
It was early sunrise, the sun wasn't out yet, the sky pink and purple and the two sabers were asleep in the den. Diego was next to Shira, both lying down on their sides. Diego's ears twitched at the sound of birds chirping and his eyes open sleepily.
Diego slowly lifted his head, yawning and he looked at Shira. He could hear her soft breathing. He smiled at her warmly and his eyes moved to her stomach moving up and down from breathing. Their upcoming cub. Shira was 2 and a half months pregnant. Diego smiled, excited to meet the cub. He stood up and gently nuzzled Shira lovingly before walking out the den.
Diego walked off into the woods, his eyes scanning for something. A new den. After Shira told him that he was getting a cub, Diego started waking up early in the morning to find a new special den where Shira can have her cub.
It's not like their old den was bad. It was actually good. But finding a new den was important especially for their cub. The new den had to be near somewhere where there is prey to hunt, water to drink or swim in, not to mention had to be close to the Herd but not too close to the sloths...Diego really didn't want the sloths to be his next door neighbors.
But it was also important that the den was nowhere near predators. When Shira would deliver her cub, the cub would be vulnerable to anything even a small predator. Shira would be vulnerable too as she needs to recover. Even if the cub made it the first few weeks, he or she would still be vulnerable.
Also the den had to be larger so that their cub can play. Diego didn't want to take Shira with him because her pregnancy was slowing her down and he didn't want to tire her.
Meanwhile, the sun came up and Shira was awake. She noticed Diego waa gone. "Diego's gone. He better find a new den. I really miss him in the morning" Shira said, her ears down. She stood up slowly and made her way out the den. "Morning baby" she told her baby bump and she felt the cub kick a little like it was saying good morning to her.
"Shira!" Her ears perked at Diego's voice and she spotted him coming. "Hey hey Warrior Princess where have you been?" She asked him teasingly as Diego trotted to her and stood by her side with a serious face.
"What are you doing out the den? You know you're pregnant" he told her serious but Shira rolled her eyes annoyed. "Relax Softie. Beside I wanna help you find the new den so you can waking up early" she told him and Diego sighed annoyed.
He shook his head and smiled at her "Luckily I already found a den and I think you might like it. Come on it's not far" he told her as Diego led her to the new den. It took a little longer since Shira was pregnant and hasn't walked far for a while. She was breathing heavy, her baby bump slowing her down so Diego staydd closed to her by her side.
"Here we are" Diego told her and there was this den with some trees near it. Diego thought the trees would be perfect for hiding the den. "Come on" he tole her, letting Shira lean on him.
The two cats entered the den and Shira saw it was much bigger. Her eears perked at some water falling and she looked and saw that near the den was a lake with a small waterfall, perfect for drinking and swimming. Shira eyes caught something else too. Inside, the den had some white flowers on bushes that made the den smell nice and could help hide the sabers' scent from other animals.
"Wow" she said, smiling at the new den. " like it?" Diego asked, hoping she like it. "I love it. Definitely beats the old den" Shira commented as she lied down on her side. Diego breathed out relieved, happy that his search for a new den is over.
He walked up to Shira and nuzzled her warmly. Shira nuzzled back and purred. "You stay here and rest. I'll go get us breakfast" Diego told her as he ran off to find food and Shira took a cat nap, smiling happy to have a new home...and that Diego would stop leaving early in the morning.
