Alone? // Ch. 4

Branches scraped along my legs and arms as I kept running, I don't know how far I've ran but I'm not willing to look back to see. The ground underneath me suddenly gave way and my body was now being carried down a gravel cliff side, the pain in my shoulder was growing unbearable. Once the sliding stopped, I attempted to stand back up, putting weight on my arm caused my body to collapse and I landed onto the small rocks beneath me.

'Get up.'

Gritting my teeth I carefully got onto my knees and pushed myself up, stumbling at first, I grabbed ahold of a spruce tree in front of me. This was when I took my first glance back where I fell from, at the top of the cliff a masked silhouette stood inspecting the ground below him. My eyes widened and I stumbled away from the tree I was holding, pushing past other trees I ran.  Pine bristles scratched my cheeks but I kept my gaze ahead of me.

"Oh y/n" Dreams voice sliced through the air and I pushed faster through the trees until there was a break, a river raged in front of me and I turned around. A gleam of red light illuminated Dreams body as he walked towards me, I backed up along a log laying across the river.

"How do you know me?!" I yelled above the current.

Dream stopped and his head tilted again, confused, his grip tightened along the sword. He sighed and reached up towards his face, the mask he was wearing carefully dropped into his hand and he stayed looking at the ground.

"He was supposed to get rid of you... Ahhh I see. What a coward." Dream chuckled to himself, he glanced up at me and my whole body froze.

'You'

My eyes watered and I stumbled backwards on the log, my foot caught and I slipped onto the back of it, knocking the air out of my chest I gasped.
Seconds later a foot landed onto my chest making it harder for me to regain my breath, I grabbed his leg and looked up to him.

"Clay." I managed to breathe out.

His foot lightened and his face softened, I took a breath of air, and before he could say anything I rolled off the log.

"Ahhh!"

My arm felt as if was being torn off, he had managed to grab me before I could fall completely, his face seemed to be more scared than menacing.  He tried to grab me with his other arm but he couldn't without falling with me, I could feel my arm begin to slip and I smiled.

"Y/n please just come with me!" Dream strained, his hand trying to tighten around mine, in an attempt to hold on.

"No." I growled, I reached up with some strength I had left and I ripped his hand off of mine.  As I fell into the water I closed my eyes, the rapids wrapped around me and I held my breath.

Swimming up to the surface for air I noticed the water getting rougher, I took another breath of air before I was sucked back under the current.  Rocks smashed along my legs and I held my screams back, the water pushed me back up for air and I flailed for a second in the whitecaps before gasping for air.  The current had already taken me far from where Dream and I were, it was getting faster as well.  While trying to keep myself up in the water I managed to spot a uprooted tree hanging into the water, as my body was being thrown around I managed to hook a part of the tree with my arm.

"Ahh" I winced, the freezing water splashed against my back as I managed to pull myself up along the fallen tree.  I crawled onto it and over to land, my body fell off the tree and landed onto the snow below.  The cold felt soothing to my cuts, I gazed up at the sky and saw the stars were out, I smiled.

'You need to get up.  I'll die if I don't...But I'm so tired.'

Glancing around my surroundings I figured I was far enough away from Dream, I sucked in a breath and tried to sit up.  My body ached with every move but I had managed to stand up, I felt the cut on my shoulder and realized how deep it actually was.  My hands began to shake but I kept them closed, I began walking up the riverbank and through snow, it was quiet outside.

"Oh come on Y/n it would be fun!" A man chuckled from beside me, I smiled and shook my head.

"Oh come on Clay, you really want me to call you Dream?" I lightly punched his shoulder and he rolled his eyes.

"Why not? Everyone already does it."

"Yeah but I'd rather make fun of you for choosing the name, Dream, of all things" I laughed.

"Okay, well, just consider it" Clay sighed, he stopped walking and I looked back at him, he seemed off.

"Y/n.  You know L'Manburg won't stand right.  And when the time comes, please don't be with them." He looked up at me worried.

"Clay nothing is set in stone right now.  They might figure this out peacefully, but you need to keep patient with them." I turned away from him  "I can't promise to leave my own alone if they are in danger.  You should know this.  You're a good friend to me, but they are my first priority"

"Yeah I know..."

(Time skip)

I walked back into the walls of L'Manburg and was greeted by Tommy, I ruffled his hair and smiled.

"Y/n we're getting ready to fight, you comin?" The eager boy raced off leaving me standing in the open.

"Fight?.... no." I turned and walked over to the van that sat in the middle of  L'Manburg, swinging the door open I jumped into it, looking around my eyes rested upon him.

"Wilbur... you can not be serious right now.  A fight? We don't have any supplies plu-"

"Y/n stop.  Who are you to give say to anything? I saw everything earlier today.  You have become biased." Wilbur turned from where he stood and glared at me.

My blood boiled when I heard he was following me all day, taking a step towards him I shook my head "you're wrong!  Sure I have friends outside of here, but that does NOT mean that I don't care about what happens to this place."

"Why HIM then?! Huh?! Answer me that, why are you friends with Dream of ALL people?!"  He snapped, his hand slammed down onto the table beside him.

Standing my ground I looked up at him blankly "Will if you want me to prove myself then I won't go back to him or anyone outside of here, Okay...But hear me loud and clear..." I walked up and poked his chest "this is my home.  These people are my home, so don't you DARE tell me that I'm biased... because I would kill for the safety of everyone here. Understood?"

Wilbur looked down at me slightly shocked, he took a deep breath and sighed.

"Understood."

Grabbing my head I leaned against a spruce tree, tears welled in my eyes and I quickly wiped them away, shaking my head I couldn't stop them, I stood there crying.  For a moment it felt as if all the pain in my arms, legs and head went straight to my gut and I fell to my knees.

"Why?... Why can't I remember anything-" I hit the tree in front of me, "Why should I care for HIM?! He tried to kill me!" I punched the rough bark again, "WHY AM I HERE!?" I shouted, looking up at the stars I felt my tears roll down my cheeks.

A branch snapped in front of me and my gaze shot forward, I held the tree to stand back up.

"Who is there?" I growled, my knuckles were bleeding but if it came to it I would still fight.  A shadow emerged from the trees ahead of me, and a tall man stood in front of me, his demeanor calm.  He wore a red cape that rested on top of the frozen ground as if it was floating, he seemed to be studying me and I stayed put leaning against the tree.

"Who are you?" A gravelly voice rang from the man and I chuckled a little.

"Good question" I grumbled and he walked closer to me, his hand reached down to me and I jerked away from him.

"Calm down I'm not going to hurt you, I'm just seeing how bad that cut of yours is." He huffed in annoyance.

Cautiously I shifted back to him, his hand gently took my shoulder and he studied the wound, he tsked.

"That's pretty deep, whoever did that, didn't mean to hit your arm..." he noted.

"Yeah I figured.  About the not meaning to hit my arm that is.  Since he seemed determined to kill me." I said.

"Well I think I can help you, can you walk?"

Nodding I pushed off from the tree carefully and attempted to move my legs, my knees buckled from underneath me and I began to fall forwards.  The man swiftly caught me and he sighed, before I could say anything I was already being carried by him, he wrapped his cloak around me to act as a blanket.

"I guess not... sorry." I mumbled, looking at my legs I now noticed the dried blood from scratches.

"It's fine, you seemed to have been running for a bit..." he looked at the scratches and back at the forest ahead of him.

"Yeah, well it's definitely not fun running from a psycho."

The man chuckled and I smiled a little, the cloak was beginning to make me sleepy and I yawned, for the first time in hours I felt somewhat safe.

"What's your name?" I groggily asked the man carrying me, he looked down at me then back up to the woods.

"Techno... You remember yours?"

"Y/n" I chuckled, balling up more into the cape and I closed my eyes.

"Thank you Techno."

Hearing a small huff of acknowledgment I smiled, my eyes began to feel heavy, and my body finally relaxed as I fell asleep.
