~Chapter 25~
[A/N just a quick note, this one's following Theo!]
"Dom, come on. Philip's been avoiding me all day, and you're his best friend. Did I do something wrong?"
I was really worried. In our morning classes Philip hadn't talked to me, he'd refused to even look when I tried to get his attention. After class he raced out of the room and disappeared into the sea of teenagers who didn't want to be where they were.
Dominic shrugged, sighing. "Theo, I haven't talked to him either. He's really stressed about something, but I don't know what it is. His phone is off too, when I send him messages it doesn't show that it was delivered."
I chewed my lip and looked around, as if hoping that thinking about him would make him just appear to explain what was going on.
Dominic's phone buzzed and he got it out to check what the message was. His eyebrows shot up.
"Is it Philip?"
"Yeah..."
"What did he say?" I asked eagerly. Maybe he had figured out what was going on.
"Uh... yeah he asked me not to tell you." Dominic said sheepishly, shaking his head and pocketing his phone again.
"Dom come ooooon." I whined. "He's been avoiding me since this weekend and it's awful!"
"Sorry, Theo- look, it will make sense after school, okay? I gotta go." Dominic ran off down the hall.
Great. Now two people were avoiding me.
I went to my locker to switch out some book. When I dialed in my combination and opened the door, a little folded paper fell to the floor.
I knew I didn't have time to open it now, so I snatched it off the ground and emptied my backpack, then stuffed the other books I needed into it and made my way through the halls to music.
This would be most interesting, because Philip was in this class and we were working on a project together.
Ms. Holm stopped me at her desk when I got to the room. "I'm sorry, Theodosia, but I've got to let you know that your partner is not going to make it to class today. His Geology professor asked him to come back to the classroom after lunch, and sent me a note explaining what had happened. It seems that he made a bit of a mess and he's cleaning it up now."
I sighed, but there really wasn't anything I could do. If Philip wasn't going to come to class then I couldn't really track him down without getting marked as absent myself.
Without my partner to help me on our project, I sort of had a free period. For the first twenty minutes or so, I worked on my French homework that had been assigned during first period. Once I'd finished it, I began to doodle in the margins. It wasn't like I had anything else to do.
I wasn't nearly as good as Philip, but at least you could see what it was.
And that was, in fact, a dumb doodle of my name with Philip's last name. I scribbled it out.
After school I got things out of my locker, then went to Philip's to try to find him. He wasn't there.
What was there was a goofy doodle with a note attached to it.
'Theo - find me in the place we had our first kiss ♡'
Oh boy. What was this?
I shook my head and plucked the note off of his locker. First kiss meant auditorium... alright.
I tugged my backpack higher over my shoulder, then started off down the hallway.
As I turned a corner, I saw a flash of a familiar shirt.
"I saw you, Dom!"
He didn't answer. I was getting close to the auditorium now though.
Someone was singing. Not just any someone, Philip.
"I wanna follow where she goes
I think about her and she knows it
I wanna let her take control
'Cause every time that she gets close, yeah
She pulls me in enough to keep me guessing
Hmm
Maybe I should stop and start confessing
Confessing, yeah-"
I walked into the auditorium.
There were rose petals everywhere, down the aisles and on the stage. Streamers had been carefully hung along the rows, clearly showing me where to go.
Hung above the stage was a huge banner, saying 'There's Nothing Holding Us Back' in bright glittery letters. Philip was standing there, in a very very nice suit.
"Oh I've been shaking
I love it when you go crazy
You take all my inhibitions
Baby, there's nothing holding me back
You take me places that tear up my reputation
Manipulate my decisions
Baby there's nothing me back!"
There were a bunch of Philip's friends and other kids on the other side of the auditorium, cheering and singing and recording. I felt blush creeping heavily to my face as Philip began to talk.
"Theo, you know you mean so much to me. I'd drop anything and everything for you in a heartbeat, and I think it's pretty safe to say you've got me wrapped around your finger, which I do not mind in the slightest... I'm just hoping you'll do one thing for me."
I nodded, covering half of my face with my hand. Too much attention.
"Will you go to prom with me?" Philip grinned.
Of course that's what this was. I began to giggle, then let it stretch into a full laugh.
"Philip Hamilton, I'm surprised you even thought you had to ask!" I ran up the aisle.
He hopped off of the stage and threw his arms out. I hugged him tightly.
"I figured I didn't, but you know I enjoy the dramatics."
