I never want to hear you say

That Brainy Barker...

She was definitely a case, wasn't she?

She was obviously fully dedicating herself to a relationship that was clearly not there and it just irritated him so much.

This is what Ace thought as he strode down the street in his Bat-Jet.

Letting the wind of the night make his black cape fly in the air, he still couldn't get Brainy out of his head.

Why did she love Krypto so much? What did she see in him to begin with? And more importantly, why couldn't she see the impossibly clear signs that he didn't like her back?

His head ached all of the sudden from all the questions and he shook his head.

"I have a better question for you, Ace...", said dog told himself in a whisper, "Why the heck do you even care?".

At this he couldn't help but sigh at his own words as he finally reached Wayne Manor and entered through the open window Bruce or Alfred always left open for him.

Walking inside he was greeted by his "partner", who went towards him with a relieved smile and gently patted his head as he crossed by him, "Nice to see you around, buddy".

Ace just lifted his head to give him a look and barked softly but clearly as a greeting.

After the Batman sat down at one of the sofas comfortably to read something, his grey dog proceeded to sit down at the warm rug next to the even warmer fireplace in front of him and laid his head down, finally able to relax...

Brainy couldn't believe herself.

She jumped slightly in excitement at the thought of finally having enough time to visit Krypto at Earth.

She had left everything organized back at the spaceship and was thinking of maybe having a special talk with him...

It had been a while ever since she could...

"Bye, Brainy!", she heard Mammoth Mutt's voice behind her, as she was who she left the spacecraft in charge of during the short time she was gone.

"See you, Mammoth Mutt", she smiled sweetly at the perky pink Chihuahua.

"Hope things go well, girl", Mammoth Mutt grinned happily, wagging her tail at the thought of Krypto and Brainy finally getting together.

Brainy closed her eyes in bliss, "I hope so, too", she left riding her floating pink pillow towards Earth.

Now inside the vast, main planet and reaching Metropolis quickly, Brainy kept muttering what she would say to Krypto once she saw him again.

"Um... Krypto... I'm glad to see you", she whispered, blushing.

"I just came to visit since I didn't have any other important duties... hope you don't mind... hanging out with me...?".

"Maybe... we could... go out--", she interrupted herself, swallowing hard and cheeks turning even redder, "No... that's too fast".

As she approached, her mind slowly drifted off to distant memories... so many memories of him...

The first time she met him she was simply frustrated and annoyed at the fact he let Snooky Wookums go when they had him just where they wanted him.

He basically confused them with an animal circus and that made her blood boil even more as she told him that no, they were actually alien defenders of space, the Dog Star Patrol.

But over time, Krypto apologized and showed them who he really was: the bravest of dogs with an immense heart of gold.

Her admiration for him just wouldn't cease.

Sure, he was clumsy and dense sometimes, but he always learnt his lesson and gave the best of him.

He would literally sacrifice himself for the whole world he loves if it came to it... he's just so noble...

Brainy Barker just wanted to be like him...

Be with him...

And now was her chance.

"Right. Brains has always been someone to respect, I really admire her...", Krypto said it about her.

He admires her, too... and all those time she had felt her heart pounding, the fact he was her first love ever.

"You're amazing, Brainy!", he had grinned at her with this phrase after she had used her magic powers to save the situation.

"I'm glad I met the Dog Star Patrol...", Krypto told her wistfully one time, while staring at the yellow sunset and gave her a kind glance with those shining golden eyes of his.

When she was back to reality from her slight daydreaming, she noticed she had reached the Whitney's home.

Somewhat nervous now, Brainy lifted her head to give her usual confidence back.

As soon as she spotted the white Labrador Retriever, her green eyes softened.

"Krypto--".

"Ok, what is it with you and Brainy?! What happened this morning?!".

She froze when she heard Streaky's (Supercat's) voice and her eyes widened.

"Streaky... there's nothing between me and Brains...", she heard Krypto's low voice afterwards.

Quickly hiding behind the wood fence, she cautiously used her magic to disguise herself, since she knew eventually Krypto would notice her with his Super Sense of Smell and Super Hearing, not to mention X-Ray Vision.

"Not like that...", the white dog continued.

"Oh, yeah?", Streaky questioned him seriously while licking his orange fur, "Have you seen the way she looks at you? And I've seen you flirting with her!".

"What?! Flirting?!", Krypto exclaimed in confusion and dismay.

"Several times!".

She heard Krypto scoff, annoyed and probably rolling his eyes, "You've got it all wrong".

"She looks at you", Streaky lifted his head, glaring at him for his oblivion, "Like you're her favorite thing in the world, Kry...".

"That's not 'just friends' stuff", the cat stated.

At this, she didn't hear a response from Krypto, just silence.

Guilty silence.

After ten full seconds he spoke again, sounding strained, "Streaky...".

Brainy nervously sweated in her spot, waiting for his answer. A part of her already knew what it would be, but she was in denial.

"You know I love Kiara".

Brainy's eyes widened again, shocked at the revelation, yet...

"I saw it coming", she muttered to herself.

From the other side of the fence, Krypto's eyes were narrowed with pain, "Brainy... is just my good friend. A good friend... like you... I never thought she felt like that", his sharp ears where down, "But... I couldn't ever develop romantic feelings for her... I...".

He suddenly felt a gush of wind pass by him in a flash, with a dozen leaves following after it and circling him.

Shocked, he looked upwards, not seeing anything.

"What's up with all that sudden breeze?!", Streaky shouted, trembling with cold and confusion, "It felt like something just flew by!".

"...", Krypto kept looking at the sky, concerned.
