Chatper 47: Jungkook's songbook

Namjoon went through the few pages of this war manual  -  that's what he called it mentally since it seemed like it - where there appeared a lot of erasures as Jungkook had changed his strategies.

Under each heading was what looked like a description of the strategy followed by a review of the strategy being put into practice. The last being all concluded by the formula "failure of the mission" or "abandonment of the mission" and at the very end, by way of conclusion was written in red the word "capitulation".

Silently Namjoon began to read Jungkook's text in detail. The first title crossed out stated "prevent a soldier from deserting the company". The first strategy developed as follows:

Strategy 1: Weaken his resolve to touch his heart

Objective: to make the soldier aware of what connects him to the garrison from an emotional point of view in order to make him renounce his desire for desertion.

Mission report: Night seems to be a good time for the success of this mission. The soldier delivered his heart's content and then opened his heart to the affective words of the garrison. He immersed himself in the memories of the good times spent alongside his brothers in arms, the soldiers alongside whom he fought and won many battles.

Strategy 1 concluded with the following statement:

Mission accomplished.

Then came:

Strategy 2: In peacetime, strengthen ties with his ally           X

New Strategy 2: Provoke the enemy with his ally

Primary objective of the mission: After making the soldier aware that the links forged in the past with the company are important and have brought it so far, strengthen the links that unite him with the company to give him new reasons to stay.

Secret objective of the mission: to take revenge on his enemy made his ally triumph.

Mission report: The first step was to conduct a high-risk mission simulation in small numbers (pair) facing an army of several million enemy soldiers ambushing attacking from a distance, adding unnecessary obstacles (secrets revealed to the enemy / false betrayal of the captain) to push the soldier to rely on his ally and thus strengthen the bonds of comradeship. Tears of laughter were shed today, and the betrayed captain forgave the pair.

Mission accomplished

Secret Mission Report: The secondary objective of the mission was a success, but problems arose: the real enemy, more dangerous and powerful than the millions of ambushed soldiers was successfully attacked but our ally is now taken for target for challenging enemy power. Our garrison will have to support him in an effort of comradeship, no, of fraternity, if we are to avoid his desertion.

Strategy 3: Designate and fight a common enemy

Objective: officially declare war on the enemy power after its repeated attacks on the garrison's ally.

Mission Report: Our ally ended up being wounded by the enemy and we had no choice but to openly go to war alongside them because we have an obligation to defend and protect our ally. We have started to provoke the enemy and will continue our skirmishes until they surrender. Our enemy is more powerful than us, but without us he is nothing: isn't that ironic? He can't kill us, only hurt us. With persistence, we will have the upper hand, for sure.

In progress.           X

Abandonment of the mission

Intermediate strategy: tell your ally that he is loved, comfort him when he doubts his resolutions and prevent him from relapsing into his plans for desertions.

Strategy 4: Deceive your enemy to better defeat him

Objective: After realizing that force will go nowhere, develop a daring strategy based on a false surrender before stabbing his enemy from behind.

Mission Report 1: The enemy was reinforced by two powerful generals who violently attacked our garrison and wounded a soldier (unofficial report: cracked rib). They hold us all hostage and explain to us that no other armed contingent will come to save us: we are left to ourselves in the face of the bestial cruelty of these two generals. We have to rout them because with them against us, the balance of power is reversed and the small skirmishes that previously worked against enemy power no longer work. Our captain explained that the army of several million soldiers, which has always supported us, had to be kept in the dark about what was going on to prevent this wave from sweeping over our enemies to save us because it would risk destroying in its path everything we have so hard built in recent years. We are truly isolated in this war: we must fight and achieve victory alone.

Mission Report 2: Our lifelong ally and another soldier is fighting the war alone without the rest of the garrison and they are weakened. They have made the decision to sign a truce with the enemy: they will obey and will not revolt until they have regained their strength.

In progress.      X

Abandonment of the mission

Strategy 5: Use your enemy to achieve your goal

Objective: Prevent your ally from deserting by relying on enemy force; threaten the enemy

Mission Report: The emotional strength of the garrison is no longer sufficient to prevent the allied soldier from deserting the group which has been adamant in his willingness to run away. With great evils great remedies: it was deemed necessary to rely on the unlimited powers of enemy generals to prevent it. In order to benefit from this military power, resorting to the threat was the only possible solution among those envisaged because it would have been impossible to compel it by force.

Mission accomplished: the ally has not deserted.

Secret Debrief: Things did not go as planned and the enemy counterattack was terrible. A dangerous threat now hangs over the soldier and his ally. KEEPING THE SECRET IS ESSENTIAL for the survival of the two soldiers who are now the target of the vengeful generals.

Intermediate strategy: Remember that Cookie is not Kookie!

All of the other strategies that followed were marked "Mission Accomplished", "Mission Abandoned" or "Mission Failed" in turn. The words "In progress" which were found on several occasions had been systematically crossed out furiously in red ink and replaced by the words "abandonment of the mission".

"But what is that..." Namjoon whispered, frowning.

Author's note : So here is the chapter that gave me the idea to divide the story into different books depending on what Jungkook had to face:
1) He first leads a candid war to keep Jin by his side.
2)  Then he has to face the company (Big Hit represented mainly by the various managers)
3)  Then he has to face his own members (it was the fratricidal war)
4)  Finally he confronts Jin but he seems to lose the game because he capitulates at the end.

And for now, that is on this negative part that Jungkook's notebook end. I didn't wrote his strategies for the reconciliation but I'll let you imagine what he could've done! =)

By the way, did you understand all of the military metaphors in Jungkook's notebook? Will Namjoon understand all of them? See you tomorrow for the next chapter! ^^
