Chapter 83 : What happened to the three Kims?
While Lee brought Yoongi back to Hoseok and Jungkook and Han did the same with a very shaken Jimin, the images of these two transfers went around the world and everyone could know that the four Korean idols were being treated at the Pitié-Salpêtrière.
For this reason, security was tightened at the hospital and many police officers came and posted themselves throughout the neighborhood. Whether it was their assailants or their over-excited fans and journalists, the boys had to be spared.
The rest of the company's staff continued to scour the other Parisian hospitals to find the missing members, but they were not the only ones, because of the many fans also looking for them, which contributed to plunging the hospitals into a situation of great frenzy. This led to a limitation of the entrance of visitors to the hospitals and complicated the research.
Moreover, like the many hospitals already full, the victims had been taken further and further to the outskirts and to other major French cities. Even in neighboring countries such as Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany which had offered to receive many people in their hospitals in border towns. All of this greatly widening the scope of research of the missing person.
Everywhere, on everyone's lips, on every social media was the same question: where were BTS' three Kims?
At Saint-Louis Hospital, Namjoon had no choice but to be as discreet as possible. Not that his condition allows him anything else.
At the stadium during the previous night, after parting ways with Jungkook, his body eventually gave in to the pain and he collapsed, sitting in the middle of the bodies. That sight overwhelmed him.
He couldn't help but feel guilty: if he had managed to convince the company to cancel the tour, innocent people wouldn't have been hurt or killed. Would public apologies be enough for the whole world to forgive them for this tragedy?
By trying to get up to drag himself again with difficulty to the side of the wings, he had again attracted a hysterical crowd which, offering to escort him, had only made the situation worse by causing a new giant stampede.
Pressed against each other, they had mutually asphyxiated and this respiratory distress had accentuated the movement of panic in the face of people who collapsed one after the other for lack of being able to breathe.
Like many others, Namjoon had ended up falling and being crushed by the steamroller of this army. He had passed out after hearing some of his bones creak horribly and being prevented from catching his breath for too long as he felt a panic fear of not being able to breathe, feverishly struggling to catch his breath and fight for survival.
Some people who were next to him, shocked by what had just happened to him, had however quickly reacted by holding hands and forming a circle around him to protect him from the rest of the panicking crowd, waiting for the arrival of help they had called loudly, jumping on the spot as soon as they had seen them enter.
It was his rescuer who told him this with surprise in the ambulance that took him to the hospital and Namjoon was grateful to these people who had saved him by putting themselves in danger in the face of this panic crowed.
Still in shock from a near-death experience and suffering from multiple injuries – his wrist and right hand broken, as well as several of his ribs and his sternum, and a lung punctured by one of his ribs – Namjoon had been immediately taken care of and operated on urgently.
After his operation, he had been placed on assisted respiration and although he had woken up, his hazy mind had refused to think back to the events of the concert and he had been unable even to answer the simple question 'what's your name' the nurse had asked.
His wrist and his broken hand had been plastered after his lung operation and the analgesics that were diffused through his body by infusion reduced his misery but also his ability of discernment.
It wasn't until late that day when seeing a familiar person enter the room on a wheelchair pushed by a doctor, Namjoon remembered his priorities, his responsibility. His members! Because the newcomer was none other than Taehyung, on a wheelchair pushed by a man in a white coat.
Under assisted respiration and unable to straighten up, Namjoon had contented himself with crying with relief and feverishly raising his intact arm that Taehyung had hastened to rise from his wheelchair and shake this hand that his leader extended to him before crying too. No longer able to stand it, Taehyung had ended up throwing himself into his arms.
"Hyung, I was so scared that I was the only one of us who got saved!" he sobbed. "No one was next to me when I woke up, I was completely alone... what would I have done if I had been left alone?!"
"It's going to be fine now Taehyung, do not ask yourself the question because it is no longer the case. You're not alone anymore, I'm here with you," Namjoon said patting his back, trying to appease him when he himself was absolutely relieved to see the youngest alive, even if he was hurt too.
After his fall from the pontoon which immediately knocked him out, Taehyung suffered from a painful whiplash injury and now wore a cervical collar which immobilized his neck but also restricted his other movements.
Knocked out and lying on the ground as he was, anonymous among the many other people in the same condition as him, it hadn't taken him long before he too was stomped on, but he got away with mostly bruises and a few scratches. In doing so, he was probably the most spared of his group.
He had hardly experienced the general panic because of his premature fainting but he had fainted in fear and anguish and his awakening alone in a hospital room had not allowed him to feel anything but anxious again.
While his headaches were making him dizzy, he had nevertheless left his room to wander the corridors of the hospital, leaning on the walls to move around and open the doors of the rooms one by one in the hope to come across one of his members. He was frightened at the idea of seeing none behind the doors he opened and where patients jumped up and stared at him in amazement, because he was screaming:
"JIMIN!"
"JUNGKOOK!"
"JIN HYUNG!"
"HOBI HYUNG!"
"YOONGI HYUNG!"
"NAMJOON HYUNG!"
He drew attention by shouting their names frantically and this was how his doctor, Dr. Moreux, had found him almost crawling on the ground, and to whom Taehyung had explained his situation.
The doctor, thanks to the photos of BTS that Taehyung had made him look for on his phone, had therefore been able to lead the singer to Namjoon's room to install him there and he intended to preserve the secrecy of their presence in these places, as the two had insistently requested.
After helping Taehyung settle into the bed next to Namjoon's, the doctor wrote down their names on their respective medical records, asking the two Kims if they were brothers, to which the two replied that they were by heart, but not by blood.
The man then explained their medical records to both of them in English, and revealed another piece of information to them.
"Another friend of yours is here, I recognized him from the photos you showed me."
"R-REALLY?!" Taehyung shouted hopefully, "Which one? How is he? Can we see him now?"
"Unfortunately not, young man. Your friend is not able to receive visitors, right now."
Namjoon's expression became concerned as quickly as it had become relieved seconds before. Taehyung didn't understand and looked apprehensively at Namjoon, waiting for him to translate, what he did. Taehyung was even more worried after that.
"Sir, can you show us which of our friends this is?" Namjoon asked nervously to start, as he had too many questions and they were the same ones that Taehyung asked all at once.
The doctor picked up his phone and again looked for the photos of the BTS members and pointed to one.
"It's him. Oh, another Kim I see. Not your brother blood either?
"It's Jin hyung," Namjoon and Taehung said at the same time, relieved.
"He is like our big brother," Namjoon added to doctor's attention. "He is the oldest member of our group."
"I see, could you please give me his age and his blood type?"
"He will be 30- no sorry, 29, in a few days, he was born on December 4, 1992 and he is blood type O," Namjoon hastened to answer in English.
"No allergies to medication?"
"Not that I know," Namjoon said before asking, feverishly: "please tell us sir, what happened to him, why is he in no condition to receive visitors?"
"Who are responsible for Mr. Kim Seokjin when on a business trip? Does he have his family here in France?" Dr. Moreux inquired gravely, instead of ansewering.
"His family is in Korea, but I am his leader, which makes me responsible for him," Namjoon explained.
More worried than ever and eager to get Jin's medical check-up as soon as possible, he did not mention the existence of his managers who were in reality the ones the doctor should have contacted first.
"Very well," the doctor replied, taking a seat on the one of the two armchairs in the room which faced the two beds.
He flipped through the folders he held in his hand and pulled out Jin's, on which he quickly wrote down the singer's newly discovered name.
"The first thing you need to know is that Mr. Kim suffered a cardiac arrest and he had to be revived several times already."
"He... He..." Namjoon stuttered, not being able to say anything as what he had just heard had shocked him. He was even unable to answer Taehyung who asked him insistently what the doctor had just said. He could only repeated : "A c-c... cardiac arrest? You m-mean he... he died? S-several times?"
The doctor nodded and let Namjoon translate what he said to Taehyung whose face lost the few colors it still had.
"I know this is shocking news for you two and I'm very sorry. I wish I could tell you that everything is going to be fine now for him but Seokjin isn't out of the woods yet. He has not regained consciousness and is under constant surveillance as his heart is still threatening to stop. In addition, he is currently unable to breathe without assistance."
Namjoon started to cry and screamed in korean:
"N-no hyung... T-This is all my fault, if... if I had been able to prevent the tour, it wouldn't have happened..."
"What hyung?! Tell me what he said?!" Taehyung asked.
Between sobs, his leader tried to explain the situation and Taehyung ended up crying in turn.
"B-But he'll w-wake up when he's better, r-right?" he asked, hopefully.
Namjoon sniffled several times before forwarding his question but the doctor sighed in spite.
"I have to admit that I don't have a straight answer to give you as Seokjin is in critical condition or now and fighting for his life. However, that doesn't mean you should lose all hope," the docteur said.
"Y-you mean he can still pull through, right?" Namjoon asked in a shaky voice that scared Taehyung who was trying to figure out what the doctor had said.
"Yes, his situation is not hopeless," Moreux nodded, "he is currently in a coma but since he is young, is much more likely to wake up than someone older."
For the first time, BTS members did not play with this mention of Jin's age. Because for the first time, they were trully relieved that his "old age" was just a bad game between them. Otherwise, the doctor could not have offered them this hope.
"Are you personally confident about his chances of revival?" Namjoon insisted, preferring to be spur before wiping away her tears.
The doctor took the time to think, which alerted the two Koreans.
"I am confident that, at one condition, he'll wake up soon, that is to say in the hours or days to come."
"Days?!" Namjoon and Taehyung exclaimed with one voice.
"That's right. I understand you're in shock, but you should know that considering what he's been through, he's not doing too badly. He's really lucky to still be alive. However, there is a condition upon his awakening that is unrelated to his physical injuries. Without this condition, he might also not wake up anymore."
"N-Not waking up anymore?!" Namjoon repeated, "w-what do you mean? What is this condition??!"
"It is his will," The docteur said with a sorry look. "medically speaking he is on the mend in hospital but If Seokjin doesn't want to wake up, if he can't find the will, then his mind won't wake up, his brain will turn off and he will be brain dead. No machine in the world can revive a dead brain, even if we keep the body alive."
"What?!" Namjoon exclaimed, shocked, "why are you saying that? Why wouldn't Seokjin want to wake up?! It's insane!"
"Umh..." the man cleared his throat, "I'm sorry to tell you that, but if you if you ask me the question sincerely, then it's obvious that you have no idea what happened to him, am I wrong?"
Namjoon's eyes widened and he felt his heartbeat quicken as his breath began to fail him. He asked, afraid to know the answer:
"W-What happened to Seokjin?"
