Chapter 82 : You mustn't tell anyone

They weren't wrong to be optimistic because soon after, they get good news.

"Lee found Yoongi," Hyun-Jung told Hoseok on the phone, "he was still at the stadium."

"It's such a relief!" Hoseok exclaimed as he relayed the information to Jungkook.

"Is he okay?" Jungkook asked Hoseok who immediately forwarded the question then finally put the phone on speaker.

"He needs to get his head and shoulder checked, because he took some serious beatings" their team leader explained, "but at first glance, Lee said it doesn't look too bad."

Even though he was grateful to him for finding Yoongi, Jungkook still hated Lee with all his being. Furthermore, knowing man better than anyone, he didn't trust Lee to establish the severity of the injuries Yoongi received and that didn't reassure him, unlike Hoseok.

"It's reassuring, thank you for the news, but where is Lee going to take him for treatment now? Can he bring him here so that we can all be together when Jimin will arrive too?"

"Yes, don't worry, he is going to bring him here as quickly as possible. It wasn't easy because France is a hell of a country of paperwork but I have obtained from the hospital management that a room be freed up next to yours to facilitate the protection of all four of you."

"You managed it like a leader!"

"Hey, I'm not your team leader for nothing! Well, I'll leave it to you boys now, rest well. I will come to see you soon."

      "Thank you, see you soon!"

Hoseok and Jungkook exchanged a happy look.

     "Only three more!"

While waiting for Jimin and Yoongi's imminent arrival, Hoseok felt he had to talk about something with Jungkook.

"Jungkook, earlier you were talking about the horrible things fans and reporters did to Jimin, and it reminds me of terrible things I read while you were sleeping," he said. "I came across some really despicable theories and comments about what happened."

"Even in the worst situations we are treated like that..." Jungkook said with pain.

"Yes," Hoseok nodded regretfully. "Jungkook, do you remember the war of shippers?"

      "Of course."

"Many are convinced that it is linked to what happened. That is to say, the attack would not have been led by the haters but by the sasaengs."

"Yeah, that's right," Jungkook said to the rapper's surprise, not expecting such assurance from him in his response, even though they'd all considered that before the tour even started.

"How can you be so sure?"

"I'm not saying there weren't haters, I don't know but anyway the girl who stabbed Jin hyung and wanted to kill him... she said, no, she screamed something to him."

He repeated to him word for word what she had shouted at Jin and that he was not about to forget as her words were filled with pure hatred, not any love, even though the cause of this hatred was insane. Whether that girl was young or not, whether she was his fan or not, she had nearly killed Jin and he would not forgive her.

He hated the sasaengs. They had always made them suffer, even before Lee's arrival, and many had been particularly hard on Jin.

"So it's true..." Hoseok muttered, shocked that someone might have come to want to kill one of them only for an unwanted ship story.

So, that was what the shipping war had led to ultimately, he thought. They had been wrong to forget it for even a moment. The consequences were too heavy to bear. He didn't want that love. It wasn't even love in his eyes. It was fetishism that had turned into pure madness.

Kpop Idols had the best fans but also the worst. Those who loved them so much that they made them the center of their lives, scrutinized their every move, tracked them down and tipped over into a form of madness rather than a passion.

"Hyung, I recognized that girl's voice." Jungkook added, "She's the one who called during the radio show, remember?"

Hoseok took the time to collect his memories.

"Yeah, I remember you had a pretty tense exchange with her. But I have the feeling that she was really young, wasn't she? How could she do such a monstrous thing? You could have been mistaken considering the agitation and the noise which reigned at the stadium."

"No, I know I'm right," Jungkook replied harshly, as he remembered the pure hatred he felt talking to her after she stabbed Jin. "Despite everything, I know it's her, no doubt about it. Do you think the police can find her if I tell them?"

"I don't know," Hoseok replied thoughtfully. "Since we know she is Korean, it should still make the investigation easier. Maybe the radio company that took her call will be able to find her contact details. In any case, you should know that it is not the only person who is blamed in this attack."

"I imagine our company was blamed for keeping the tour going and not taking the threat seriously. But they would have been criticized too if they had not maintained the tour, so..." Jungkook shrugged to point out the obviousness of his thinking.

     However, Hoseok painfully denied it.

"You are wrong Jungkook. The official investigation will probably determine the responsibility of the company. But in the debate that has developed on the internet and which is currently making the buzz, it is not really the company that is blamed but one of us."

Faced with Jungkook's disbelief, Hoseok didn't take long to clarify:

"If you remember the war of the shippers, you must also remember the person of our group who was at the center of this war and who, in our opinion, was going to be the victim of this war?"

"I remember you or Yoongi hyung said it would be..." Jungkook started before suddenly stopped.

"Jin hyung," the rapper completed, "exactly. Many accuse Jin of being responsible for what happened."

"Wha- WHAT?! But why? How could it be his fault if someone decided to go after him?!" Jungkook cried, exasperated.

"They say that, following the threat on Vlive, he should have understood that he had to get away from you and, as he did not, therefore, this attack was partly his fault. And... others think you two really are in a relationship, and they are angry with him even more."

The maknae lost all countenance at this truth. He said in an uncertain voice:

"That's what shippers have always said. They say that about V hyung and me too. That doesn't make it true and above all, that does not make it a reason to kill someone!!!"

"Yes, I completely agree with you obviously. However, Taekook is what many shippers would like to see, but it's not what you've show  recently, you know that. And anyway, it is not the truth that matters here but the information that spreads the most and that creates a spiral of hatred. Jin hyung is the victim of a hateful defamation campaign online, he is accused of all the bad things that happened of our group in addition to the events of the evening. There are even people who believe him dead and who said... who said..."

Hoseok was unable to finish his sentence since the end was obviously too hard for him. He raised his head to the ceiling and took a deep breath, but he couldn't say what he wanted and his eyes had watered again as if he was going to cry.

But Jungkook urged him to finish, even though he knew it would be hard to hear if it was that hard to say:

     "Hyung, what did they say?"

"It's... It's really awful Jungkook, I shouldn't even repeat that to you."

"I- I have to hear it, please," Jungkook said, even knowing the harm it was going to do to him.

     Hoseok inhaled deeply and nodded.

"They say that with all the trouble he caused to BTS, Jin hyung should have thought about committing suicide on his own before yesterday, because it would have saved him from ruining the tour, your relationship with Taehyung and everything else."

Jungkook was left speechless at these despicable words. During the Vlive, death threats had already been sent to Jin. But for him to receive it again after being stabbed, after being reported missing and presumed dead by many, it was unbearable for him.

"It's the only reason they're targeting Jin hyung? Thinking he might be in a relationship with me makes them want to kill him?" he asked more to himself than to Hoseok, in a menacing growl before screaming : "Is that really the stupid raison he almost died?!"

The hardness in his tone alerted the older member who hastened to rectify :

"Most people don't think so, JK. Most don't believe in shipping, don't worry."

"What if it was true?" the maknae retorted with coldness, "are all those people who don't believe in ships suddenly turning against us? Hate us? Hate me?"

"If what was true?" Hoseok asked, puzzled.

"If..." Jungkook began, measuring the seriousness of what he was about to say. But now that they had suffered the full brunt of it and paid the full price, what was the risk? So, he gathered his courage and defiantly said, "what if it's true that Jin hyung is my Yeobo?"

     Hoseok's eyes widened in surprise.

"Jungkook, please tell me this is just a guess. Tell me that's not the truth."

"I won't tell you that," Jungkook stubbornly snarled, abandoning any notion of prudence. "Because it is the truth. And that's why I could never imagine going on living without him."

Shocked, Hoseok suddenly saw all of Jin and Jungkook's interactions flash before his eyes. He had always seen them as innocent games, evidence of both candor and great affection. He had even found it cute that the youngest and the oldest needed to sleep together.

Did they manage to fool everyone since the beginning? Since years? Or that innocent relationship changed at a certain moment? But when? Since when were the two hiding this? Was that why their arguments had escalated so much recently? Because their relationship had become that of a couple?

He then remembered a question that Jungkook had said when it was time to take the threat seriously and reverse the trend of the ships : "What if people think Jinkook is real?" At that time, no one paid attention to it, but Jungkook probably threw in the biggest clue. The others had simply been deaf to it.

And long after that, a nickname game started with the nickname "Yeobo". Attributed to Jin by... By Jungkook! Was the maknae just being reckless or had he desperately tried to get his members used to the idea of him and Jin being a couple?

Despite his many questions, for now, Hoseok was mainly thinking about protecting Jungkook and Jin. This was the most important thing in his eyes as the maknae, in his condition, being far from Jin and devoured by the uncertainty of seeing him again one day, seemed to be ready to put aside all caution after what had happened and risked paying a heavy price.

Hoseok realized indeed that the boy had no idea of the violence of the hatred and rejection he was going to receive full force if he persisted in wanting to spread this information. Jungkook was not prepared to receive it. And Hoseok wasn't ready to see him suffer more thant he already suffered.

"Jungkook, what you just told me," he whispered, afraid of being overheard by the men standing outside the door, "you mustn't tell anyone. Especially not the company."
