Chapter 8 : Argument

Sitting in the chair, Jin watched the long strands of dark hair scatter on the floor as Jungkook tirelessly alternated between scissors and clippers with an expert hand. There was no turning back so he closed his eyes and let the maknae finish his task without looking once at his reflection in the mirror.

Several minutes later, Jungkook asked him to lean over the tub and rinsed his head and neck. Then, when he straightened up, Jin finally observed his reflection in the mirror and was shocked. He hadn't worn his hair so short since childhood and he barely recognized himself. He felt like he had less charm without his locks that covered his forehead and made him look more youthful.

His silence caught the attention of Jungkook who expected another reaction from him.

"Hyung, don't make that face, you're still the most handsome," Jungkook reassured him, putting a hand on his shoulder, and staring at his reflection in the mirror. "You are World Wide Handsome and your haircut has not changed your handsome face."

His remark drew a smile from Jin who looked more closely at his reflection. Free from his locks of hair, his face radiated a new charm. The first sight had shocked him, but after all, he was still the same: same full eyebrows, same chocolate doe eyes, same straight nose, same full lips ... His eyes, which were the favorite part of his face to him appeared larger and more visible than ever.

Jungkook had cut it down a bit and he had more hair on the crown of his head, which looked like a well-rounded haircut. No, definitely, he wasn't going to lose his confidence in his appearance for hair that would grow back in a matter of weeks.

"Your turn, JK," Jin said as he stood up, imparting his smile to the cadet who hastened to sit down.

They did not leave the room that evening, preferring to reserve the surprise to their members for the next morning. So Jungkook lay down next to Jin for the first time in a long time, but Jin warned him:

"If you crush my leg tonight I won't hesitate to throw you out of bed."

"I won't realize it, you know," sneered Jungkook, known for his heavy sleep, but he was careful nonetheless to stay at a respectable distance from the eldest's legs so as not to hurt him. "Can't wait to see how others react tomorrow," he said, closing his eyes.

"Yeah, Jimin's going to fall out of his chair. "

"And Namjoon-hyung will be uneasy ..."

"B-but... what did you do?!!" Namjoon screamed, horrified.

The members were already all gathered around breakfast when the two boys appeared and flaunted their new hairstyles. And everyone felt their jaw drop in surprise, as they analized them with wide eyes.

On Jin, it was only emphasizing his perfectly dimensioned face. On Jungkook, it had reinforced the manly appearance of his youthful face and seemed to have matured him for a few years. And side by side, the two looked like they were the same age. With their layered cropped hairstyle, they still looked stunning after the first shock of the change.

"Why this silence, aren't we handsome?" Jin asked jokingly as he felt the rest of the group nervous.

"That's... that's not it hyung," Namjoon replied, taken aback by Jin's question, not knowing if Jin was ignoring the seriousness of his action on purpose or if he really wasn't aware of it. He didn't add anything however, unable to find the words, and looked around for Yoongi's support to lecture the two thoughtless members.

Whoops, the Jin effect just hit Namjoon hyung! Jungkook laughed inwardly aware of the shock that their arrival had caused, as he sat down between Jin and Hoseok but was careful not to displaya too big a smile on his face in front of a Namjoon who had easy punishment and who was in emotional upheaval at the time.

As Namjoon stared at him insistently, Yoongi rolled his eyes, making him remembered that he wasn't a leader and it wasn't his place to deal with his mathyung's late teenage crisis issues. He nevertheless agreed to speak because it burned his lips.

Jin was so immature sometimes that it seemed to him that he - Yoongi - was the oldest here and that it was up to him to remind him that there were rules to respect. And the other big problem was that Jin had raised in his image a kid who was only 14 years old when they first met and who today occupied the central place of their group.

Indeed, Jungkook followed Jin in everything he did. This boy's admiration for his mathyung knew no bounds and and ever since, it was through Jin that he had to go to see Jungkook improve his behavior. Jin had to contain himself for Jungkook to behave well too, as if the behavior of the youngest mirrored that of the oldest.

But it was a long fight for Namjoon and Yoongi. Namjoon often threw in the towel when it concerned Jin as if he didn't feel he had the right to moralize his eldest who had faced so many difficulties in the past and now appeared as a free and happy spirit,  bringing so many good vibes to this group.

The leader picked up the slate by confronting the company to calm things down and Yoongi was the one trying to bring some common sense back into the heads of these two young adults who forgot to grow up.

"You two are looking like you're going off for military service, what's the whole idea? Are you looking for problems?" Yoongi asked, exasperated in front of the detached attitude of the two boys.

"Come on, it's not that bad," Hoseok tempered, not wanting the other two to feel uncomfortable, "we don't have any events planned for the next few days, they will just be filmed in training, so their public image will not be affected. "

      "Even so..." Yoongi retorted.

"Oh, don't be a killjoy, Yoongi," Jin cut him off, "we've changed our hairstyle, it's not dramatic."

"If you say so then we don't have to worry then, right?" the rapper quipped sourly, feeling that he had to make Jin understand at all costs that he was going to have serious problems with the company. "I just want to remind you that you didn't properly calculate the consequences of your behavior at the press conference, either. It seems like you never think about your actions!"

Jin looked sulky. Jungkook knew that Yoongi's main concern was to protect Jin in his own way, but he didn't appreciate the abrupt way of doing it.

"And you are also going to say that the delay of the release of the MV is a consequence of his thoughtless actions, right?" He got angry.

"Don't make me say what I didn't say Jungkook," Yoongi warned threateningly.

"Well, allow me to interpret things hyung because you're always mad at Jin hyung for everything!" Jungkook replied.

"Calm down JK," Jin told him softly, one hand on his shoulder, "Yoongi is not wrong."

"Yes, he's wrong," the maknae persisted, "why is he always mad at you when we both do the same thing?"

"Because Jin hyung is the oldest here, he's five damn years older than you, wake up Jungkook! We can't put up with the nonsense of a nearly 30 years old man like we will with you. And he's the one the company has their sights on when you both do the same thing, haven't you noticed yet?"

As Jin winced, Jungkook frowned. He didn't like being reminded of the age difference with the eldest. He liked to say that Jin was his soul mate and didn't want an asymmetrical relationship between the two of them.

In addition, he knew that it hurt Jin to be constantly reminded of his age, which he ultimately did not benefit from since he did not claim any special respect from his dongsaengs, preferring a relationship of equals to better have fun with them,  but still had to take responsibility for their nonsense.

"Which of you two had this idea, then?" Namjoon asked who seemed to be hoping it was Jungkook.

"Me," Jin and Jungkook replied in unison.

Jin withdrew his hand from Jungkook's shoulder and slapped him on the back of the head.

"Ouch! Why hyung?" Jungkook moaned in protest.

"It was my idea," Jin said, staring at the maknae who rubbed the back of his head without letting his gaze go.

Namjoon sighed, not knowing what to say, as Taehyung and Jimin were having fun seeing his leader so helpless in the face of Jin. Even if he asked Jin why he did that, it wouldn't help matters. He just said:

"I guess that's okay as we don't have any events planned in the coming weeks. But don't post pictures of yourselves, that's all I'm asking of you."

"Okay," Jin responded obediently, starting his breakfast with appetite.

"No punishment for them, then?" Jimin asked regretfully, "my room could use some cleaning." He laughed as Jungkook threatened him from afar.

"Needless, their haircut is already quite a punishment in itself," Hoseok laughed.

"Don't listen to him," Taehyung interjected, addressed to Jin and Jungkook, "you look very handsome like that, it's even a shame not to let the Army see you."

"JK, go get the clippers, Tae wants the same haircut as us," Jin ordered Jungkook on a serious tone.

Taehyung quickly run away from the dining room, chased by Jungkook and they all burst out laughing.
