Chapter 43 : We are perfect

The photoshoot took place in the countryside, in a private setting with only the company staff to supervise the group. As a result, the pressure on their appearance was not as high as it might be in the afternoon.

The makeup artists had done an amazing job on Jin's face, restoring his right side to the regular color of his face and making the swollen skin look thinner with discrete but mastered contouring.

The hairdressers had straighten his bangs so that the locks fell as low as possible on his face and masked as much as possible the imperfections that the makeup had failed to hide on his right side. The stylists added him semi-tinted glasses which allowed to mask the red color of the fine exploded vessels.

Jin was dressed in a striped t-shirt under rolled up dark blue denim overalls revealing his red and white striped socks and red sneakers. The accessories that had been provided to him to complete the set were a large straw hat which he slipped on his right side in most of the photos, and a butterfly net whose stem he sometimes planted in the ground and against which he placed his face to partially bury it.

It made him look quite childish as a butterfly hunter and was paired with a late childhood solo song he recorded for the expanded version of the album.

The rest of the imperfections, if any remained, would be digitally corrected during editing, something Jin had never needed, his face considered to be of perfect size. Once again, this downfall did not matter to him.

All he wanted was to get home as soon as possible so that he wouldn't have to smile in front of camera lenses. During the shoot, he stayed as far away from Jungkook as possible and stiffened when he had to take a break for a duet photo with him and the maknae put an arm around his shoulders.

In the shadow of the shootings were always the people who took care of them and the situation did not escape them.

"I'm a little worried, Seokjin is getting hurt every day more than the previous one," Eun-Jung, one of the women stylist, whispered to her makeup friend Soo who took care of Jin's face. "I found traces of blood in one of his outfits that I picked up earlier. And he looked a little limp. You think he got hit?"

"I don't know, there are worrying things happening in their dorm thoses days," Soo replied in the same tone. "But I hope it stops soon because it pains me to see Jin like that."

     "Yeah, me too..."

The two women had been working for a long time in this industry and therefore knew the violence to which idols could be subjected. But Jin had always been so endearing that they were really sad every time they saw him suffer the company's wrath if that was what was going on. In their eyes, Jin didn't deserve this because he always did his best. Unfortunately, they couldn't do anything whether it was the facts of the company.

Indeed, they knew that if they had the audacity to criticize the company for that, they would have been fired because they were not there to manage the company's management. It was almost a tacit rule: everyone saw, everyone knew, but nobody said anything. Artists were left to their own devices in this cruel professional environment.

They knew that they knew very little about the idols lives away from the studios and the scenes, and they wondered what had led to such unbridled violence against Jin. But being sharp observers, they eventually realized the new distance between Jin and Jungkook, and Eun-Jung commented:

"Didn't you notice how the two of them were distant today when they've always been stuck together?"

"Yeah," Soo responded, "but I heard that it was to respect the will of the public who did not like their public release and who preferred to see a greater closeness between Jungkook and Taehyung."

"Sure, but "It's not just a camera game, it's obvious, look at them off camera now," she said, pointing to the boys with a nod. "It is not Jungkook who is glued to Seokjin, it is Taehyung! And you saw how Jungkook is isolated as if he were in conflict with others?"

Soo opened her eyes wide and asked, outraged:

     "Are you implying that-"

"I'm just wondering..." the other defended herself, "could it be Jungkook who hit Seokjin?"

"I really don't think so, Jungkook is a nice guy and he adores his hyung, he would never have been able to hurt him like that!"

"Should we talk to their manager?" Eun-Jung asked while watching Lee talking with Namjoon.

"Uh... they're old enough to settle their own affairs, aren't they? You're not just trying to find an excuse to talk to Lee just because you have a crush on him?" Soo laughed.

"But he is so charming, how am I supposed to resist!" the stylist chuckled.

Unlike Han, who was professional but very cold to everyone, Lee had managed to establish a certain connection with the people who worked in the BTS environment and was particularly sociable and charming.

No one could have imagined that in the shadows, he could be violent. Sometimes he would forget himself and get angry but everyone considered it necessary when it came to the success of BTS. After all, he was in charge of the world's most famous boys band and had to admit that until then he had done a good job as the successor to Sejin and Hyun.

The two women would never have suspected Lee of being responsible for Jin's injuries. If he was one of the managers, they would have suspected Han. Having always had the impression of being listened to by the manager, they thought that they could freely discuss their doubts with him unlike Han or the CEO.

"He may know they had a fight, but he may not know the other wounds they're hiding anywhere but on his face and Seokjin is not the type to complain, you know."

"Let's go talk to Lee when he's less busy," Soo decided, when she saw Jin limping past her to join the caravan in which he had to change, giving  them a smile and a bow that they gave him back.

During the afternoon interview which took place in front of an audience, Namjin and Taekook appeared in front of the cameras to the delight of the fans, but the coldness between Jin and Jungkook who did not address a single word to each other nor exchanged a single glance didn't go unnoticed and Jinkook fans flared up, shouting that the duo had to be forced to ignore each other in public.

The other thing that did not go unnoticed was Jin's face and he had to offer the audience the lie the group had worked out.

"We knew Namjoon clumsy but we didn't know you were so scatterbrain, Jin!" the cheerful journalist exclaimed , happy to have unprecedented information to present to his audience.

Jin let out a forced chuckle from his lips.

"Me neither: every day we discover a new side of ourselves as we discover in those with whom we live!"

Namjoon imagined the grief of Jin for having to lie to his fans and present an inglorious side of him that wasn't even reality. He put his hand briefly on his shoulder to show his support and the fans in the room started screaming their pleasure.

This must have delighted Namjin fans: the clumsy and destructive couple, perfect soul mates, Jin thought. Should he add more to satisfy them? He whispered in Namjoon's ear, placing a hand over his mouth to hide from people what he was saying:

"Hey, god of destruction, don't we play with the hearts of our fans a little?"

There was an explosion of joy among the fans and the couple caught the camera's attention. Facing Namjoon's bewildered face, Jin added in the same way, whispering:

"I could tell you anything and the room would sound the same."

Namjoon was surprised that Jin offered him but he did not refuse.

"Yes, it's not difficult to play Namjin." Namjoon chuckled, getting into the elder's game and whispering in Jin's ear. "I don't understand why Jungkook got off like that when he was told about ships lately. As long as Army likes it and it doesn't hurt us..."

What did it matter the truth to be presented publicly as long as they themselves were aware of the bonds between them in private? But Jungkook hadn't been able to pull it off, he was just too immature and was hurt by this concept. He sometimes knew not to distinguish his professional posture and his posture in private for things that were too close to his heart and Jin was one of them.

The duo mathyung-leader turned smiling towards the audience then, Namjoon sent Jin a flying kiss which was the hallmark of the older one and Jin pretended to catch it on the fly with his mouth and eat it while frantically waving his lips in an adorable way. The fans roared with delight.

In turn, Jin sending a perfect flying kiss across the hall and many fans jumped up to catch the kiss on the fly and attempt to feed off their idol's love. The room was now filled with the joyful cries of the fans, which made the singers happy.

Even though his relationship with Jungkook was still tense, Taehyung was happy to be facing their fans and wanted to have fun with Jungkook like Namjoon and Jin, but the younger one was lost in thought, unable to get Jin's last sentence to the reporter from his mind:

We discover a new side of ourselves every day, as we discover in those with whom we live!

Jungkook had perceived Jin's remark as an insinuation that made him uncomfortable: Wasn't he the one who had revealed a new side of him, that of a violent and callous boy? Or was it the resentful side of Jin that had come out with more force?

The reporter cut his train of thought when he addressed Jin:

"We still hope that you take care of your handsome face in the future and that it will escape your clumsiness. After all, you are the visual of the group and without it you lose what makes you so special in the group. "

Switch off his emotions. Jin had tried to do it so as not to be in pain anymore. However, this sentence from the journalist in front of his fans hurt him. Granted, he had been forced to stay, but it was his talent and his personality and not his face that had kept him in the hearts of his fans during years and contributed to the success of BTS, unless he deceived himself? Why was the only positive thing that some people remembered about him was his face? Was he just that? Was that what revealed his face damaged by Jungkook today? That without his handsome face, he was nothing for people? Those thoughts really hurt him.

The other members had their mouths wide open due to that unexpected remark from the journalist which they judged inappropriate, but the man did not stop there in the inappropriate questions.

"Tell me, there is a lot of talk about the songs today as we are here to promote the new version of your album this year. But let's move the subject a bit to the side of dancing since it is an integral part of your daily idol life. Tell me who, among all of you, is most likely to ruin the group choreography?"

This question made the public laugh and made the journalist smile wide but for their part, the members remained speechless in front of this question which was to lead them to designate one of them as being the weak link of their group, the one that destroyed their cohesion and their success.

Yoongi was about to retort that no one was ruining the choreography and that everyone was doing their best for the whole group, when first scattered and then unified screams echoed across the hall. These cries chanted a name:

    "JIIIIIIIIN !!! "

The fans tacitly agreed and referred to Jin as the backbone of the group. Jin froze in the face of the unexpected attack from his fans who had shown their love for him a few minutes earlier.

"It is not me!" He heard himself say, without knowing why, a sad expression drawn on his face.

He had always done his best but this bad dancer image stuck to his skin and any effort he could make wouldn't change fans' minds because he would remain the less good of the group. What Army thought about him was too much important to him and that's why it hurt him hardly.

How he would have liked to regain his old confidence and throw a joke that would have allowed him to take control of this interview and restore his image in one sentence! Instead, he found his remark and himself pathetic.

The other members were sickened by this public reaction, expecting better behavior from Army who was not supposed to gang up on one of them and denigrate him. But they were even sadder when they heard Jin, eager not to go against the opinion of his fans, denigrate himself:

"It's true that I'm not as good at learning the moves compared to others, but I'm doing my best."

"No!" Taehyung and Jungkook objected with one voice.

The two boys looked at each other and Jungkook nodded, leaving the floor to Taehyung who was next to Jin and who put a hand on his hand before saying:

"Hyung, you're good at dancing, dont' say such thing!"

"But you don't know, maybe my abilities could be a bit less than yours..." Jin explained.

"No, seriously!" Taehyung replied, raising his voice.

"Okay I get it, don't get mad," Jin jocked, nervously smiling.

"You've always been good," Jungkook added.

"Okay, thank you both," Jin said.

Yoongi then gave the audience the most disapproving look he could, which made the room uneasy and Namjoon was about to say loud and clear that it was he who was ruining the choreography and not Jin, but Taehyung beat him:

"Nobody ruins the dance, stop asking this question" he said in his deep voice that intimidated the audience and silenced them, while gesturing the reporter to ask another question and move on.

"We're BTS," Jungkook added, smiling sadly at the audience, "we're perfect, Jin hyung included!"
