Chapter 102 : Behind Taehyung's shoulder
At the back of the group, the trio of Han, Jin, and Taehyung noticed after the others that the situation had gotten out of control, or even that they were the ones the crowd seemed to massively converge on.
Jin was the only member whose face had not even been seen on their social media since the tragedy in France and even now that he had appeared in public, his face remained hidden by his cap and his plush. Everyone intended to get close enough to take the first satisfying photo of him.
"Seokjin, why are you hiding your face?!" a journalist shouted next to them to drown out the noise of the crowd, very quickly belted and carried away by a bodyguard but just as quickly replaced by another journalist who shouted:
"Seokjin, we saw you being hit in the face during the concert, tell us, was your face disfigured? Is it permanent?!"
"Is that why you dare not show your face?!" asked another.
"Are you afraid of losing your WWH title?!"
"Do you still have your legendary self-confident after what happened?!"
"Do you think you're still handsome enough to be BTS's visual?!"
"Did it make you aware of the hatred that some felt towards you?!"
"Can you understand why they hate you so much they try to kill you?!"
"THAT'S ENOUGH, STOP !!" Taehyung exclaimed, beside himself, "keep your questions to yourself and leave him alone!"
He was outraged by these indelicate questions that Jin, luckily, didn't seem to hear through the headphones, but but which burst from all sides.
However, Jin seemed to realize that he was surrounded by the crowd and was shaking but kept his head resolutely buried in his RJ, refusing to look at the people around him as if he knew that this vision would be unbearable for him.
Nevertheless, when the fire alarm suddenly sounded and the security officer left their posts by dozens according to their emergency protocol, someone approached close enough to the wheelchair to yank Jin's cap off, and the singer could no longer ignore everything around him.
"Hey! you have no right to do that!!" Taehyung yelled at the man, his eyes flashing.
Taehyung tried as best he could to push away the hands that were approaching Jin and involuntarily moved away from him little by little as Han did the same behind him, moving away from the wheelchair trying to get people away from him.
And suddenly, all Jin senses were attacked with full force after the man ripped off his cap. Indeed, by removing his cap, the journalist had also made the headphone fly in the air.
Seeing that his face was still disappearing in the plush that he was clutching with all his strength, shaking violently, clinging to it with one hand as if his life depended on it, another man snatched it from him without difficulty since two of his fingers were trapped in a bandage and could not cling to the stuffed animal which was brutally torn from him.
From then on, Jin felt like he was completely vulnerable: he had lost his shield of softness and found himself confronted with the cruelty of the real world. He was suddenly aware of being surrounded by the light of the flashes which shot from all sides, as well as by the noise, terrifying, which resounded with a crash in his ears.
He was back in his personal hell.
It was only explosion of noises, screams, movement, bright colors, and he couldn't bear it, he didn't know where to look, his head was spinning wildly in every direction. He had lost all his bearings, he felt alone again in the middle of the crowd at the France Stadium.
He wanted to cry out in distress but his cry remained silent when, focusing all his attention on this crowd, his eyes lingered on a face: his gaze was then covered with a veil of pure terror. Reality had previously become a nightmare and now, his nightmare was coming reality again.
She was there in front of his eyes.
Raising his head, he raised his right hand to his eyes, unable to lift his left arm locked in his splint, then finally his trembling hand went to his right ear, as if he did not know what to protect first between his ears and eyes, because his sight as his hearing were relentlessly attacked by a noise and a wave of flashes that would not stop. Helpless, tears of anguish started streaming down his face.
Then his face turned in all directions feverishly looking for someone, then screaming with all his might, clinging to the memory of the only person who currently inspired him with a feeling of security:
"VOO!!!"
His uplifted, terrified face, marked by a scar above his right eye, finally appeared completely for all to see, and a storm of furious flashes descended upon him, plunging him into unspeakable distress. He no longer knew where to look, the silhouettes became more and more indistinct as the floods of lights blinded him. He was alone and stricken with a sparkling blindness.
Not seeing him or hearing his voice, Jin believed that Taehyung had left him alone in the middle of the crowd. He wanted to get up: he had to leave his wheelchair and crawl as far away as possible from this place.
While he saw absolutely nothing, still blind, he tried to get up quickly, but, unable to get up on his own, fell forward and saw the ground getting dangerously close to him without him being able to protect himself with his hands.
He was caught in extremis by Taehyung who had just suddenly appeared and made him sit down again. He immediately clapped his hands on Jin's eyes, shouting above the hysterical cries of the crowd who were contemplating this scene with a tender look which angered him but which he had to ignore to worry about the only person who mattered:
"Don't move, I'm here hyung, I'm not leaving you, I promise!"
Jin jumped when he felt the hands land on him which plunged him into the dark after this flood of light which had prevented him from seeing the youngest approaching him and who did not know that it was he who had his hands pressed against his face.
"Hyung, calm down, it's me, Taehyung, I'm here now!!" he repeated louder after Jin jumped up at the blinding hands. "Hyung!" he yelled at Han, "we have to keep moving forward, there may really be fire but we especially risk being trampled if we stay still here. We must go!"
Han pushed away yet another person clinging to the wheelchair and nodded. The wheelchair started up again and Taehyung followed suit, keeping his hands flat on Jin's face, unknowingly dropping RJ, the headphone and the cap on the ground. It was only important to leave the place as soon as possible.
The young singer cast a murderous look at the crowd. Despite everything they had been through at the Stade de France, how could they put them through this? Hadn't they expressed their anger throughout the week at what their idols had been subjected to in France? Why then did they reproduce the same thing here in Korea?
Regardless of the country, the fans were the same because they, the artists, had the same impact everywhere: some of their fans saw them as objects and as soon as they had them in their hands, they only wanted one thing, grabbing them in their hands, and it didn't matter if they broke them in the end.
We are only humans! he thought bitterly. You're not just going to break us, you're going to crush us into the infernal machine of your insensitivity! Are you inhuman? Have you no heart? Don't you feel pain to see us suffer like this?
He painfully felt Jin's hand lacerate his own but held on and didn't pull them back: he used to impose his embrace when they where in the hospital and Jin needed the comfort of his embrace even if he initially tried to refuse it.
This time however, the pressure was so urgent, so strong and painful despite the few uninjured fingers that Taehyung finally let go of Jin, afraid that he might be in pain without him knowing.
"Hyung, what is it, are you hurt somewhere?!" he asked, worriedly.
Then he saw Jin's eyes, finally free of the blindness, widen in fear while looking at him. He didn't understand: was it himself who suddenly frightened Jin? For the moment, he was the only one Jin currently trusted, if he suddenly saw him as an abuser, he wouldn't let anyone take care of him anymore and that would be terrible. Was Jin giving him the same treatment as Jungkook because he felt he hadn't protected him enough from that mob?
But Taehyung soon realized that it wasn't actually him that Jin was looking at. He was looking over his shoulder, at something beyond. Or someone.
Spinning around sharply to see what Jin had seen, Taehyung felt a sharp pain in his injured neck and let out a cry of pain, cowering in pain when he should have been standing to block what was coming right at Jin.
A girl suddenly tumbled out and threw herself heavily on the wheelchair, which she knocked down and which fell with a resounding crash.
Jin was brutally ejected a few meters from the chair in a cry followed by a thud and Han fell backwards, dragged by the weight of the now empty chair he had tried in vain to retain. People ran to get closer to Jin and the small crowd trampled without noticing the poor manager who suddenly became invisible as people only have eyes for their idols.
Jin, slumped on the ground, gasped. He felt a terrible pain run through him: he had just fallen on his injured shoulder blade. However, while the reopened wound let its first streams of blood escape on the ground, he did not dare move or cry out, contenting himself with staring with terror at the gaze of pure hatred which did not let go of him and that he was the only one to see in the middle of this dense crowd.
They were the cold eyes of a girl. The icy gaze that a young woman of her age should never have had. The look of hate that Jin should never have received in his entire life, because he had never hurt or had never been mean to anyone.
Carefully straightening up as his neck struggled to support the weight of his own head, Taehyung only took a fraction of a second this time to understand: it could only be the girl who had attacked Jin in France, the very one who had called them at the radio station. He was sure of it when he heard her speak coldly:
"Jin oppa! Last time with Jungkook oppa and now with Taehyung oppa? You really don't understand anything! Don't you remember what I told you last time? It's time for you to disappear, forever this time!"
Taehyung felt his blood run cold hearing those words. He immediately knew what she meant, unmistakably after everything they had been through: she wanted to kill Jin. And the latter, still on the ground, completely frozen, didn't seem like he was ready to fight back to survive.
Taehyung saw in horror the girl brandish her knife and swing her arm in Jin's direction. He rushed over and grabbed her arm quickly, eliciting a cry of surprise from her. He squeezed her thin arm so hard that she dropped her weapon, which fell to the ground with a metallic noise perfectly audible despite the ambient din, a few centimeters from Jin's face, who jumped in fright.
Seeing this, Taehyung hurriedly kicked the knife to send it several meters away, away from Jin's eyes, still holding the girl's arm
The girl meanwhile turned to Taehyung and gave him a gaze filled with adoration, eyeing the hand of her idol who was grabbing her so tightly, then hugged him with all her might in a suffocating hug, shouting:
"Tae oppa! I love you, won't you make him disappear with me? So you'll be with Kookie oppa forever, he won't steal him from you anymore, you'll see!"
"What did you say?!" Taehyung yelled bewildered, "Do you realize the crazy things you're saying?!
"If you can't do it, I'll do it for you, don't worry," the girl affirmed with frightening tenderness.
"You... you... you're absolutely crazy!!" Taehyung stammered in shock before trying to stop her in her madness: "we don't kill people for such nonsense! Hell, we don't kill people at all!!
"It's not nonsense," the girl pouted, "you don't know how sad and jealous Kookie oppa feels when you look at Jin oppa instead of him!"
Stunned by the girl's insistence, Taehyung couldn't stand it any longer:
"I already told you once," he growled "Taekook doesn't exist, it's something you have to get out of your mind! Now stop this nonsense immediately and get away from us!" He exclaimed as he pushed her away briskly.
He wanted to go to Jin who was still lying defenseless on the ground and who risked being trampled if he didn't help him get up as soon as possible but the girl clung to him vigorously despite his efforts to get away from her, and it was even worse now:
"You're wrong," the girl affirmed with confidence, "Taekook is real, everyone can see that and it's the only relationship that we allow you to have, because you belong to us!"
"Excuse me??!!" Taehyung said turning to her again, incredulous.
She brutally leapt to his neck, wrapping one of her arms around his neck brace, adding unwelcome pressure to his fragile neck, and hugged him, legs wrapped around his waist with a happy smile inches from his face, as if she wanted to kiss him, forcing him he pulled his face back for fear that she would kiss him without warning, and causing him to cry out in pain again when his neck turned too quickly.
"OUCH!! What are you doing?! Leave me alone, get down!!!" he yelled.
But struggling to free himself was the worse thing to do. By dint of struggling, he felt a searing pain cross his neck and make him clench his eyelids and his teeth to suppress both tears and screams of pain: he could not even move with all his strength without risking serious injury. How was he going to get rid of that girl who clung to him as if she wanted to merge with him?
"No, I won't let you join Jin oppa, they will take care of him and thus, you will never be with him, nor Kookie oppa will be."
"Eh?! They?! Who are 'they'?!"
As Taehyung was stunned, the girl suddenly burst out laughing, with hysterical laughter, looking to the side.
Then he heard Jin scream.
Immediately glancing down at the ground, Taehyung suddenly realized that Jin was no longer in the same place as seconds before. He was further away and was on the move walking away from him.
To tell the truth, he wasn't moving of his own free will: several people who weren't part of their close guard were pulling him by both legs, including his injured one, and Jin was screaming in pain and fear.
As Taehyung was still struggling with the girl who dug her nails into his flesh as if to become one with him, Jin soon disappeared from his sight, engulfed by the crowd.
Feeling a shiver of horror run through him, Taehyung noticed while looking for him with his eyes that the knife had also disappeared from the ground.
"NOOOO HYUNG!!!!!!"
