Chapter 1 : The press conference

"I am ready to answer my country's call at any time," Jin said in a confident voice.

Jungkook couldn't quite realize what he had just heard, and his gaze drifted into space for a few minutes. When he came to his senses, the press conference the conference BTS was attending was going on but without him. He was looking at Jin on his right. The oldest member of the group, was determined to keep a dignified posture after what he just said publicly, was looking straight ahead to answer a question posed to him about his possibly imminent military service.

Before the start of the event, Namjoon reminded them of the strict guidelines imposed by management: no childishness during the international press conference online. It had to remain a serious event that contrasted with what they were used to doing with their entertainment company.

However, Jungkook desperately wanted Jin's attention, and in general, the eldest was the first to defy company's rules and say that rules were made to be broken. He smirked as he imagined what he was about to do.

He grabbed his pen and positioned it between his fingers to make it into a catapult which he quickely hurled at Jin. The pen hit the inside of the glass of the glasses the eldest was wearing to make himself look more serious that day.

Instinctively and as if he had suddenly forgotten where he was, Jin let out a very loud "YAAaaaa!!" to the youngest, a shout that interrupted Jimin's answer to the question asked earlier and which turned all heads and all cameras towards Jin, curious to know what was happening to him.

Jin abruptly stopped screaming when he realized that but continued to stare intently at Jungkook, as if pondering his counterattack and how to make the maknae pay for this public affront he had just inflicted on him.

"What's the matter, Jin-nim?" Jungkook asked in a deceptively innocent tone as everyone stared at Jin, emphasizing on purpose to make fun of him the respectful term "nim" which he never usually used but which they all had to use during the conference to make it look more solemn.

The latter turned to the maknae, making sure to speak loudly enough:

"Come on Jungkook-NIM, if you want to go to the bathroom you don't have to ask me, because it bothers me and it disrupts the conference, I already told you though. You're an adult now you can slip away discreetly and come back pretending to have gone to get a coffee to save your honor if that's what scares you. Otherwise, hyung can ask reporters to pretend they don't know where you're going and what you're going to do, does it suits you, my dear maknae? You all agree, right?" Jin said loudly to the reporters who burst out laughing and nodded.

Among the other BTS members on the other hand, the reactions were mixed.

To Jungkook's left, Namjoon froze in his seat, staring into the camera and giving the impression he wanted to disappear under the table.

Yoongi kept his facial expression neutral as he turned to Jin and Jungkook.

Taehyung let a smirk twist his mouth as he looked at Jungkook, as if remembering a revenge he had forgotten to honor and which Jin had just performed in his place.

Jimin and Hoseok laughed ingenuously, unable to contain themselves after being serious for so long.

Jungkook's cheeks had a little rosy at Jin's statement for it was not common for an idol to talk about such a trivial thing as going to the toilet. But he was the one who had looked for the problems and knowing Jin as he knew him, he knew he was going to pull out a stupidity that would make all the spectators laugh, without thinking of preserve anyone's reputation.

Furthermore, the maknae was glad to have caught Jin's attention and at the same time, dragged the group out of the torpor of this far too serious and too long press conference. It was not in the habits of BTS indeed to be so serious, they always needed to laugh and make the audience laugh. He decided to continue in that direction, ignoring a mortified Namjoon:

"But hyung-nim, the hand that fed me was yours, if I'm sick it's up to you to take responsibility and help me with my instestine problems, right ?" Jungkook asked to the journalists who didn't know what to do anymore because the conference had become too chaotic because of this duo. "And by the way, since you've drawn attention to yourself it would be good to make a public apology in front of the camera!"

"Ah you're right," Jin agreed, most seriously now staring at a camera in front of him and Jungkook couldn't help the bright smile that spread across his face. "I'm sorry to have to confess to you that it was my fault for having forgotten that our precious maknae has very fragile intestines." Then, turning to the host who was interviewing them : "He must take a few minutes off or more if needed to unleash the beast in him, isn't that a problem?"

Red with shame this time understanding what Jin meant by "the beast" of his intestines, Jungkook realized that he had lost the humiliation battle between him and the oldest of his members.

"Ah... uh... well... that's okay, there's no problem he can go, we'll put his questions off until later," the host replied uneasily.

"Perfect, you can go Jungkook-NIM! You see, it was not that complicated! It's normal for humans to poop, don't be shy next time, Hyung won't always be there to do it for you."

Jungkook's face that had split into barely masked laughter frowned again upon hearing that last sentence and it was with those words that he slipped away.

Namjoon hesitated between publicly apologizing for the outrageous behavior of his members and playing dead in his chair. However, he didn't want to embarrass Jin by making it a serious matter, especially after his serious statements about military service so he preferred to remain silent: after all, it was common knowledge that the duo formed by the oldest and the youngest was unpredictable and always ready to do anything to make the gallery laugh. Better to keep the natural order of things and not change anything, so no one would complain, would they?

The host also regained his composure and continued his questions. He managed to end the press conference with dignity even after Jungkook's late return to the others and finally the members were able to leave this stuffy place that bridled their candid nature with unusual seriousness.

In the van that brought them back to the dorm, Hoseok, Jimin, and Taehyung were full of praise for Jin and Jungkook.

     "It was awesome!" Hoseok exclaimed.

"The best press conference ever, thanks to you two!" Jimin added patting their shoulder.

"It's not funny," Namjoon said, "we warned you to be serious. It was about the international promotion of our new album."

"You're wrong Namjoon," Yoongi contradicts grimly, "it's funny when you consider that it's from the older one who claims he's ready to be called and become an adult."

"Hey hyung, stop being mean to him," Taehyung spoke, "it was Jungkook who started with his catapult and hyung's retaliation was spectacular!"

     "Thanks, Voo" Jin smiles proudly.

"You are the adult Jin, it was up to you to end the fight peacefully," Yoongi exasperated.

"I'm an adult too," Jungkook pouted.

"In that case you'll be punished like one," Namjoon warned, his eyes flashing.

"Yoongi, you didn't notice it, but I ended the fight peacefully," Jin assure, replying to Yoongi's previous intervention, "I sent the kid to the bathroom without a single stroke of the pen."

Hoseok, Jimin and Taehyung laughed again and Jungkook had to admit that Jin was good. Indeed, he had won this battle with brilliance.

However, he did not forget what had motivated him to provoke the eldest in the first place. Yoongi was right about one thing: Jin was the least grown-up of them all here, why was he proclaiming loud and clear that he was ready to be called out instead of keeping a low profile and hoping we would end up forgetting him?

Jin had proven once again today that he was his soulmate, that they both had a common spirit that united them. Jungkook knew he couldn't stand his absence from BTS. Never. He would do anything to prevent his departure.
