It had been about 2 weeks since I arrived and I had gone to look for jobs about 4 times throughout the 14 days. I didn't get a single one yet and it was looking rough for me. I needed to get money to take my drivers test once again and buy Warped tickets. Nicole was always out of the house at her job she was a nurse, and George was always at his office. I was periodically alone. I needed to go get my license but I would spend all my money on that. I'd need a car and everything else of that matter so I went out today to apply to one more place for a job. I'd walk there, and that place was... Starbucks

When I got there it was full of people and it smelled like coffee and pastries. It was not a bad idea to work here. I got in line in behind two very cliche looking girls who looked like they probably shopped at the mall on a weekly basis. Lucky them I suppose. When I was called it was like I had grown roots from my Converse.

"Hello, I noticed you had a help-wanted sign upon your door." I said

The man looked at me and made a weird face

"Hey! Robert!" The manager came into the room with dried oranges in a container marked 'VALENCIA'

"Good morning, what's up Adam?" He asked the trimmed haired blonde

"This girl just asked me about the sign." I pointed to the door and he nodded and handed the container to Adam who smiled at me and the manager- Robert came from the back of the counter and sat down at one of the tables and I sat across from him.

"So you need a job?" he looked at me curiously

"Desperately." I said

"I'll need your resume and your back ground information."

"What if I don't have any of that really?" I asked nervously

"That's an accent you've got." He said smirking down at the table. He sort of gave me the creeps...

"I'm not from here."

"L.A. or the United States in general?" He was laughing

"America." I said plainly not laughing because it wasn't even funny.

"Okay, can you clean tables, sweep and mop floors?" he asked

"Of course." I said

"And after your first two weeks of that you can work the cash register with Adam and the other girl Olivia.

"Great, thank you so so much!" I said

"You can start today." He said "We pay you every Friday, 8 dollars an hour. Don't let me down...." He waited

"Georgia Francis."

"Georgia." He said nodding laughing at me and walking to the back of the shop once again. Olivia waved at me as I watched Adam take off his apron.

"I'm off, see ya Olivia!" He yelled and waved to me again

"Hey! New girl." I looked over to Olivia yelling at me as customers left the store with their bought goods

"Yeah?" I said

"What's your name?"

"Georgia." I said

"Weird.." She mumbled "Where are you from?"

"Yorkshire, England."

"Holy shit your British." her whole attitude changed towards me

"Yes." I said throwing away left over trash on tables

"That's awesome!" She said helping an elderly lady choose what size coffee.

This shouldn't be too bad.

I swept the floor about 6 or 7 times before Robert came out of the back taking his apron and hat off.

"How was your first day?" He asked me

"Great." I said putting the broom in the broom closet along with the mop.

"I found extra uniforms in the back." Olivia said coming towards us with a tote.

"Is it just you three who work here?" I asked

"We have other workers but they never show. They've gotten too old to work here." He winked at me

"How old are you anyway?" Olivia asked

"17."

"You would be legal in England.." He said "Anyways here look through this tote and fill this out tonight and bring it back around 8 tomorrow morning." Robert handed me a form to order any new uniforms and a name tag.

"Yes, sir." I said nodding to him

"Thanks for applying here. Have a good night ladies." He left through the front door and to his white Mustang out front.

I looked through the clothes. I found 5 small shirts that would fit and an apron.

"I probably won't order anything new." I said

"I didn't when I started working here. You said you were from Yorkshire? How is it over there?"

"Cold, wet, and what I called home." I folded the shirts neatly on the table

"You speak so different it's hard to understand what was that middle word?" She took off her glasses and cleaned them with the hem of her skirt

"It's wet... like water?"

"Rain!" She said

"Yeah it rains."

"And you have many piercings in your ears and your nose and even on your eyebrow..." She looked like a catholic school girl

"I do yeah." I said twisting my industrial bar on my left ear.

"I would never get that many... I'm 16."

"Your still in school?"

"Yes, I go to Saint Philips school for girls." I knew it had to be Christian...

"That's cool, you gotta enjoy it while it lasts. Before you know it you'll be graduating without a plan or anything necessarily positive for yourself."

She didn't follow half of what I said. Damn it my accent.. ugh

"I'm sorry Georgia but your going to have to speak slow when you talk to me because it just melts together when you say things."

"I'll keep that in mind." I said slowly

"Okay, hey it's getting dark out did you drive here?" She asked me

"No I walked a few blocks."

"I can drive you."

"That would be great thanks!" I said

"Can I get your number?' she asked me "I won't be working the week days like Adam does."

"Sure.." I gave her the phone number of the new cell phone Nicole got me when I moved here since my network wasn't even recognized here.

"Thanks, okay let's go so I can lock up and get home."

The ride home was at least 10 minutes and we talked a great deal and it turns out she likes alot of the same things as I do including music. Once she dropped me off and I got inside I told Nicole I got a job and that I would probably work Monday-Friday and Sundays.

"That's almost a whole week can you do that?" She looked concerned

"I can, yeah I can do this."

"You being from Britain and all I've been doing research and you know you could easily get into the University of California. I can get you in there Georgia."

I tried to let whatever she just said seep in. I didn't want that. I didn't want to be thrown in school again...

"I don't know yet."

"You can get a degree and be really successful."

"I don't want that Nicole." I shook my head

"Why not?"

"I need to make this for myself, I want to work and get enough money to get in without pulling the 'I'm a British immigrant' card." I used my hands for quotations

"It isn't like that! Your very talented!" She said to me

"I'm not talented I barely made c's in school." I slurred angrily

"I can't- Georgia listen to me." She leaned down to my height "I know your brother doesn't help you and I know your parents left you but I am here to help you. Family or not I am your friend. I practically raised you. Your still a child here."

"Okay." I said and she hugged me.

"I got you something." She said and I sighed I really hope it wasn't something stupid after this conversation. "Close your eyes."

I did as I was told and she handed me a thick piece of rectangular paper.

"Open them."

When I opened my eyes I looked at the two things in my hands. A ticket to Vans Warped tour ticket. "Oh my god!" I yelled and hugged her again. This was this Friday.

"I knew you wanted them and since you made this transition to live here and you just got this job and everything. I know you deserve this."

"Thank you so so so so so so much!"

"You're welcome. I think we both should go to bed since we both have work in the morning."

"Okay, goodnight." I said as both of us walked up the stairs

"I'll drop you off in the morning. I also made an appointment for your license test this Wednesday and I think I have this friend whose buying a new car and she said she would let you have her's since its not the newest model. I think its a Chevy Spark?"

I laughed "Okay Nicole thank you so much. I don't really know where I would be without you."

"Me either" She smiled at me and went to bed.

WARPED TOUR TICKETS AND A FUCKING CAR? How can this happen to me... I felt like I finally was cared for. It was an ultimatum though I knew I would have to go to college by the end of this summer..

"Georgia!" I woke up to Nicole yelling my name "You have like an hour to get ready I'm going to McDonald's really quickly."

That greasy stuff? Ew. "Okay, I'll get cleaned up and such." I showered and cleaned out my piercings. I chose my black skinnys without rips in the knees, I threw on one of the Starbucks shirts I got last night and wrapped the apron in my bag as well as the name tag form.

Nicole got back pretty quickly and once she dropped me off at work I was early. Adam was already inside counting the tip jar and he let me in.

"New girl." He said

"Georgia." I corrected him

"Okay Georgia. Robert is in the back needing your form." I sighed I really didn't want to be alone with this wanker...

I knocked on the door that said 'MANAGER ROBERT STILLS.'

"Come in." He said

"Ms. Francis!" He said turning away from his computer. "I was just filling out your information."

"I have the form." I handed it to him.

"Great, I'll order it for you. You can work with Adam today if you want. He's a nice guy."

"Thank you." I left the office and Adam was making some sort of berry drink.

"Here." He handed it to me.

"Thanks?" I took it and looked at him. His blonde hair was brushed in a professional manner, and his clothes showed he cared for this job and that maybe he had it for a few years now.

"You seem really cool." He said

"When do the doors open?" I asked

"30 minutes."

"Okay." I said sitting down

"You don't talk much do you?"

"Not really." I said

"I am going to this music festival this Friday."

I looked up from the berry drink

"Warped tour?" I asked

"Yes, I can't wait to go see my bands!"

"Which are?" I raised a brow

"August Burns Red, and New Years Day."

"Not bad." I said sipping my drink

"Are you going?"

"Yes."

"Which bands are you seeing?"

"Escape the Fate, Black Veil Brides, and Asking Alexandria."

"Ewww Asking sucks." He said

"No they don't." I said

"Whatever, says the Brit girl." He laughed

"Please don't call me that." I said

"Alright red coat."

I bit my tongue and ignored him. Once Robert came from the back he noticed the tension and rolled his eyes. "You guys have to get along." He unlocked the door and looked specifically at me. "I've never seen Adam so flustered."

After Robert left and many customers rushed in and out of the shop I checked my phone on my break.

Hey it's Olivia. how is everything?-Olivia

Fine I guess. Is Adam mean to you?-Georgia

No never.-Olivia

I decided not to ponder on it and once the clock struck 6 I left the store and told Robert I wouldn't be working on Wednesday. He was fine with it since the workers who I haven't met were coming in.

Hurry up Friday.
