▪︎\\Chapter Twenty Eight
I pulled my suitcase along as I descend the steps. The jet landed a few minutes ago and now we were going on a long car ride to Mordechai's penthouse. After placing my suitcase in the trunk, I entered the car and groaned when my belly made a small noise. Come to think of it, I haven't eaten anything since this morning. I hope we can stop to get something on the way.
The car drove off and I felt like I wanted to sleep again. I couldn't because then I will miss all the beautiful sights Paris has to offer. I took off my jacket and my beanie before focusing my attention out the window. I smiled as I admired the beautiful buildings as they passed us by. Paris was definately a place to visit. Maybe after leaving New York I will reside here.
"Vanessa, I need you to drop something off for me tomorrow morning".
I looked at Mordechai as he handed me an envelope. I took it before examining the words written on it. It was in a different form of language that I couldn't understand.
"Where?", I asked because I didn't know anywhere in Paris. He couldn't be serious about this.
"Just stop asking questions. You'll see when we get there tomorrow", he replied before I rolled my eyes at him. I placed the envelope on the empty space beside me before continuing to look out the car window. I saw a hotdog stand from a distance and I felt my mouth water. It has been a long time since I've had one. The last time I ate a hotdog was when I was working for Zed. Alexa and I would buy them together after work sometimes.
"Can I stop here for a while?", I asked as the cart got closer. Mordechai shook his head no but I grabbed his hand without even thinking.
"Please, I haven't had a hotdog in a very long time".
He watched me as I studied him hoping he would say stop. But he didn't. I watched as the stand passed by and I remembered his hand and I released it immediately. He was wicked and utterly selfish.
"Stop!".
The car came to a halt and I looked out the window. The cart was quite a distance away. He just had to wait until it was too far. I turned and looked at him with a serious face but he was checking his watch.
"You have ten minutes, no more", he said as I smiled slightly before taking up my small purse and exiting the car. The fresh air was wonderful. I passed a painter who was painting a portrait of a couple and a smoothie stand with a lot of persons surrounding it. I wasn't a fan of smoothies but I would give anything for milkshakes.
As I reached the hotdog stand I was greeted by a young guy who had a broad smile on his face. His hair was curly and short and he had two piercings in his right ear.
"Bonjour Belle, Que puis-je t'offrir?", he said as I gave him a blank expression. I had no clue what he said and I wasn't going to ask him to repeat so I can use Google translate.
"Hotdog", I say aslnd he smiled even brighter before getting to work. I watched as he added everything and I was quite intrigued by how fast he was moving. He wrapped it up before placing it in a napkin and handing it to me.
"un hot-dog pour une belle fille", he said and I smiled pretending to understand before taking a bite from the hotdog. I closed my eyes and actually moaned from the taste. It was just one of those type of foods that you can never get tired of.
"My hotdog made you moan, that's nice", the guy said shocking me but he only laughed. So he knew english all this while?. He handed me a small piece of paper but I just ignored it before taking another bite.
"It's just my number, if you want to know your way around Paris you can call me", he said with a smirk at the end.
"No thanks, besides I'm only here for a few days then I'll be going back to the city", I told him without beating around the bush.
"Come on, you can still take it. Alot can happen in a few days and you may need me. Think of me as your french guardian angel", he said as I laughed and he followed after.
"Alright", I replied as I took the paper and went into my purse.
"How much?", I say but he just waved it off.
"It's on me, don't worry about it. And welcome to Paris the city of love", he said before giving me a bow.
"Thank you", I replied with a big smile. Maybe he wasn't that bad after all.
I remembered Mordechai and I turned and started to walk back. I don't think ten minutes was up yet but I didn't want to risk it.
"Pas de problème ma chérie!".
I smiled as I went back to the car. This french language was quite intriguing and I liked the accent a lot. Mordechai was looking at me with a confused stare but I shrugged it off. I was in Paris and I was going to make these few days count.

The car came to a stop and the guards got out immediately. They went into the other car behind us before it drove off. I was confused and was about to ask what was going on but Mordechai got out and went to the driver's seat. He drove off as I watched my surroundings like a hawk. He drove a little further before pulling up at a huge gate. He pressed a button in his car and the gate opened.
He drove right into the garage before the car came to a halt. He got out and I followed after taking up my jacket. I took my suitcase from the trunk before following him towards the elevator. He pressed a button and then we started to go up. It was a calm and peaceful silence before his phone started ringing. He looked at it for a few seconds before cutting off the call and shoving the phone in his pocket.
A few seconds later the elevator came to a stop and the door opened. He walked out and I followed after him. The place was quite decent...much similar to the one back in the city but more spacious.
"Follow me", he said as I followed him through the hall area and up the stairs. It was hard to pull the suitcase up so many stairs but I refused to let it get the best of me. I struggled all the way to the top and then dropped it as I rested my body. Mordechai didn't stop however he kept on walking expecting me to follow.
I continued pulling my suitcase down the narrow hall until I stopped beside him at a large mahogany door.
"This is my office, you only enter it when I ask you to, and I mean it".
"I have no intention of entering your office Mordechai", I said before rolling my eyes.
"You do not, address me by name. Its 'sir' or 'boss', he stated as he glared at me.
He turned and walked the same direction we just came from. I was beyond tired and all I wanted was some sleep and maybe something to eat. Flights can really exhaust your body and long car rides as well. We walked a little further until he stopped at another door. He opened it and walked in. I followed after and then examined the room.
It was very comfy and warm. There was a large bed with black and white sheets, a closet, a television probably too big for anyone to lift, a small table on either side of the bed with a lamp on one and a vase on the other. There was also a carpet at the foot of the bed and a few paintings on the wall. I also liked the colour scheme which was a very dark shade of blue, black and white.
"This will be your room for the time being. I'm sure you'll make use of the office area. If you need anything, find it yourself. I'll be getting some work done".
He walked out and shut the door. Office area?. I went deeper into the room enjoying the coziness of it. I've never had the luxury of sleeping on such expensive silky sheets. Much less staying in a penthouse. I started to notice a small door in the corner of the room but I almost missed it because it was so well hidden. I went and opened it and saw the office area he was talking about. I carried some files with me so I'll be finishing them up tomorrow.
I stripped down to my undergarments before going through my suitcase for something comfy to put on. A loose pants and a red strapped up blouse. I placed my suit for monday and also a dress in the closet before going towards the bed. The moment my back hit the soft mattress I moaned and started gripping the sheets. These were the softest sheets I've ever laid on.
I got up and after catching my hair in a bun I left the room. The place was so spacious and beautiful. I placed my hands on the railing as I looked downstairs. My eyebrows furrowed as I notice a woman, well she looks more like a maid, sitting having a cup of tea?. She was definitely a grown woman but her figure was small. I watched as Mordechai emerged from nowhere in full changed clothes and a jacket on his arm.
He touched the woman shoulder as she smiled and rubbed his fingers. It was at that time I thought my mind was playing tricks on me. They exchanged a few words and then the most perplexed thing happened.
Mordechai laughed.
It was a loud laugh as well. He didn't look too bad, a nice change from his seriousness. A few more seconds passed and he went back to the direction he came. I guess he was going out and I was here in this big house hoping to explore it all. I will, right after I find out who exactly the maid was.
