Preparing

I kept my eyes closed until I felt SilverWing slide to a stop. He huffed loudly as I opened my eyes and saw him look toward the crashed ship as many engines could be heard approaching down the street.

I look down the street and saw a few of the Autobots driving over to us, a gut feeling in my stomach when I didn't see many of the others but I hoped they were off planning elsewhere.

I looked over to see Sam and Carly reunite before I turned my attention to the Autobots and soldiers as the cars screeched to a stop, soldiers flooding the area like angry ants while the Autobots transformed.

"Form a perimeter! Let's go, let's go!" A soldier commanded as he exited a car and ran off as Epps ran over to Sam and Carly.

"I want to feel like I'm a part of them, go...please?" I whisper to SilverWing.

He rolled his optics but walked over to them nonetheless.

"Well, you're crazy." Epps told Sam before they gave each other a very semi and brief hug.

Sam ruined the moment.

"What is that? Is that us?" He asked, pointing off in front of them. He walked over which caused Epps and Carly to follow them...which caused me to smile at SilverWing until he followed after them.

"This thing's a military UAV. Stone, check and see if it's still working." Epps told Stone who walked over and knelt down by the large machine.

"Yeah, it's still got power." Stone answered him after checking on the large metal eye drone...thing.

Epps knelt down in front of it and started talking to it. "Flight Control, do you copy? Can, can you rotate? Can you do something?" He asked as he smacked the screen a bit lightly. "Come on, man! Work! Work!"

I bit my lip as I watched him. I wanted to so badly to tell him to chill out, that it won't talk back but as I glanced around I figured that wouldn't be the smartest thing I could do.

"Can you rotate or something?" Epps tried again as the eye suddenly tilted downward. "Yes, yes! Okay, okay, okay! They can see us." He told us quickly before Sam shoved him out of the way to kneel down by the drone.

"Chicago is ground zero, do you understand? Can you hear us? You understand?" I almost wanted to laugh when Carly shoved him to the side in return to look into the magical rotating eye drone.

"Please listen. Sentinel Prime is here and he has the pillars to his Space Bridge. They're on top of a building on Chicago River. It's owned by Hotchkiss Gould Investments. Now, the pillar that controls everything is in the southeast cupola." She got out before Sam shoved her back to the side.

"You've got to destroy the pillar. You have to shoot down the pillar or they're going to transport Cybertron here, do you understand? Do you understand?" He told them.

"You're talking to people, Samuel...I'm pretty positive they understand." I told him flatly causing him to only glance at me before looking away. I shook my head at him before looking up at Optimus as he knelt down somewhat to look at us as Sam, Carly and Epps stood up from in front of the drone.

"We need to move before the fighters spot us. Wait here until we scout a route ahead." Optimus told us, shifting and loading his gun before turning and walking away, rolling his servo up in a spiral motion. "Let's roll."

"Ratchet, cover high." Sideswipe looked toward the medical officer as he followed after Optimus.

I watched them, nerves swarming my stomach as my heart dropped to my stomach. I shook my head before turning my attention to the soldiers as they loaded their guns, which caused me to check my ammo supply on the gun. I haven't used it but that doesn't mean I can't not bother to check.

"Hey, think we could use that rocket to shoot down the pillar?" Sam asked, walking over to the soldiers while SilverWing moved closer toward Epps.

"We're eight blocks away. We got to get closer to take a shot." Epps told him, standing straighter with his gun in his hand.

"Not closer. Higher. We need a clear line of sight." A soldier named Hooch responded from a fire escape, pointing toward the building that the pillars were located on down the block from where we were.

"And it's across the river. Gonna have a hell of a time trying to sneak up." Epps moved forward, looking at the building.

"We only got one shot." Another soldier spoke up, holding up a rocket from the weapon case.

"One shot's all we need." Sam turned to look at them with a nod.

I stared at him before I couldn't help a laugh escape me causing practically everyone to look at me, wondering what the hell I'm laughing at. I waved my free hand. "Sorry, sorry, just...he sounded so confident."

"Is there a reason he shouldn't be?" Carly looked at me.

I almost glared at her. "It's Sam..that should be reason enough." I answered her. Plus...the scene around us didn't even help any confidence I had in this situation, then again...I have seen how humanity fucks them over in the end.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Sam looked at me.

I didn't answer him. Everyone who really knew Sam should know exactly what I meant.

"....so one shot will be fine..?" The soldier held up the rocket, looking at all of us.
