Chapter 14: Spring Thaw

The warm, early-spring sun was what woke Jeno up in the morning. He heard the sound of birds chirping outside his window and a light breeze was ruffling his white curtains.

He smiled at the memory of last night. Jaemin had been the perfect boyfriend for him. He paid for Jeno's cup of frozen yogurt, and took really good pictures of Jeno that he was definitely posting on his instagram. There was this one moment when Jeno spilled yogurt on his chin and Jaemin laughed and wiped it away with his thumb. Then he licked the sugary goo off his finger. Jeno felt all gooey inside at the sight of Jaemin doing that.

Speaking of Jaemin.....

A light snore coming from the opposite end of Jeno's bed made him turn to look over, and oh right, he invited Jaemin to stay over the night.

Just then, an idea came to his head. During these past few weeks of being in a fake relationship Jaemin mentioned it's always nice for a couple to have little surprises for each other. Jamein himself had already surprised Jeno many times. Like how he surprised Jeno with a cake last week on his birthday. Or how he bought Jeno a pack of those Japanese erasers when he saw Jeno looking at them with googly eyes. Or when Jaemin took some money out of his check to give Jeno a box of junior mints after a customer at the theater was rude to him. But Jeno had never really done anything for him in return.

Jeno decided he was going to surprise Jaemin with some breakfast in bed. He wanted to show Jaemin he was learning from him and he also wanted to thank him for helping him out these past few weeks.

Jeno jumped up to go make the pancakes for Jaemin, but he was so excited to get out of that bed he totally forgot he practically burritoed himself into his blankets last night because of how cold it got. What was supposed to be a graceful slide out of the bed and a soundless land on the floor turned into a wriggle inside the blankets and a flop on the floor.

The commotion was enough to wake Jaemin up. He looked to his right and saw that Jeno wasn't there. When he looked over the edge of the bed he saw cylinder shaped blankets on the floor with some black-bedhead-hair sticking out one end. When he heard a slight whimper come from the blankets he knew it was Jeno.

Jaemin smiled at the whole scene for a moment before he climbed off the bed and went over to help Jeno get out of the blankets. When he was done Jeno was lying on his back, on the floor, on top of like five blankets with his black hair sticking out at every angle from the static of the blankets.

Jaemin smiled and hovered over Jeno for a moment. Then he leaned down to kiss him on the lips.

"Morning cutie." Jaemin's morning voice was raspy. "What's the rush? It's a Saturday and your parents are gone the whole weekend."

"I just wanted to surprise you with some morning breakfast." Jeno blushed and looked down.

"Well, you definitely surprised me Jeno." Jaemin giggled and carresed Jeno's cheek softly.

"And I wouldn't say no to some morning breakfast." Jaemin got up off the floor and headed downstairs, not even checking to see if Jeno was coming or not.

-------

The two boys finally set out at about 11am. Jeno ended up making a fruit salad for the two of them with homemade yogurt and golden raisins on top. Jaemin was impressed. Jeno never mentioned he was a skilled cook before.

Jaemin decided he wanted to take Jeno to the carnival that was in town for the weekend. The idea of a crowded area was typically terrifying for Jeno. But recently, he had been gaining confidence, even more then he had even before he started dating Jackson. So the idea of a carnival was exciting, he said yes to Jaemin's request almost immediately.

Jaemin and Jeno walked up to the carnival swinging their interlocked hands between them. When they got up to the ticket booth, Jeno confidently approached the man selling tickets.

"Two adult tickets please." He said.

"24.50$" The boys paid for their tickets and entered the carnival together.

Jeno munched on the candied fruit Jaemin won for him from playing basketball. Jeno still blushed at the memory. Jaemin got so many basketballs he even beat the high score. He was so happy he ran over to Jeno, scooped him up into his arms, and twirled him around until he wore himself out. When Jaemin finally put Jeno down, he was so dizzy he couldn't even tell how many fingers Jaemin was holding up for him. Jeno had to cling to Jaemin for a good five minutes until he was okay to stand on his own again, not that Jaemin was complaining though.

"Jeno!" Jaemin gave his hand a small tug, Jeno looked up from his fruit to see what Jaemin was looking at.

It was a carnival ride. A roller coaster to be exact, something Jeno hated.

"Oh my god I love roller coasters!" Jeno audibly gulped from behind Jaemin.

"Jeno, can we go on it pleeease?" Jaemin looked at Jeno and tried to copy Jeno's puppy eyes that he made whenever he wanted something. It obviously didn't work. Jeno was the cute one in that relationship.

"Jaeminnie, I don't like roller coasters." Jeno looked at Jaemin with real puppy eyes that made Jaemin melt on the spot.

"Awww, c'mon Jeno It'll be fun! Anyway, if you ever get scared just hold my hand. I'll be there for you."

Jeno couldn't say no after that. He hopped onto the back of the line with Jaemin.

Maybe this will be fun after all.

It wasn't fun.

While Jaemin was having the time of his life Jeno clung to the rail and screamed his head off.

When he got off the ride he was as pale as a sheet.

He nearly threw up twice.

His shirt got bird poop on it.

But even through it all, he kept a smile on his face, because he was with Jaemin. And being with Jaemin made anything fun.
