I Will Always Love You Chapter: 86
Bina POV
“... If I remember correctly, this is exactly what he said,
'You know, I really like you. I mean... a lot. But I couldn't do this to you or myself any longer,' Nelson began.
I was scared about what he was going to say. He was almost shaking, but he continued,
'I don't think that it would be a good thing for us to continue seeing each other...because at the end of the summer, I'm going back home...to Minnesota.' He looked up at me slightly teary eyed.
My mouth was hanging open and my eyes were wide with shock, and I asked,
'I thought that you lived here? What about your music, and friends? Why now...'
'I stayed here at my mother's house for the season, and then I go back to my father's house for school.' He grabbed my hands, and then continued,
'I'm going to miss L.A., but music will still be here next year, and I have it back home. I didn't think that I would meet such great people like you, your sister, Michael, Donna...but I guess I just have to deal with it. I wanted to tell you now before...' He took a huge breath that rattled him and said,
'I want you to be able to meet guys and make relationships that are lasting, and I would be standing in your way this whole time being selfish with you, just to leave in August... I am so sorry.'
I was completely shocked, yet relieved. You see, I went to tell him that I was with you, Michael. But he beat me to it. Nelson was looking at me expectantly, as if trying to see if I was upset, so I said,
'It is all alright.' And I smiled warmly at him.
Nelson let out a huge sigh and grabbed my other hand and whispered,
'Thank you...' He looked back up at me with more confidence and said,
'So what did you want to tell me?'
'You know what, it's unimportant.'
You see, Michael, I was trying to be kind. I didn't want to tell him right then that I was choosing you over him, so to save extra hurt, I just kept quiet. We enjoyed the rest of brunch and had a good time as just friends. While he was taking me home, out of the blue he said,
'You know, Michael is a really good guy...' He shot me a cheeky grin. I couldn't help but blush at the thought of you, and he continued by teasing me,
'Yeah, by that look it seems like you like him. Why don't you give him a chance? He will treat you with the utmost respect.' He pinched my arm. I said,
'I can give it a try.' I giggled a little, and then he said,
'If you do, then I will be glad because when I come back next summer, I won't have to bust any jive turkeys in the mouth on your behalf.' I had to laugh.
We pulled up to my house, and I got out of the car, gave him a hug, and we agreed to keep in touch. And that is all that happened."
I exhaled after finishing. I was glad to get it off of my chest, but I was still worried that Michael wouldn't feel secure about it.
Michael's expression had changed at least 16 times during my whole explanation - his eyebrows raising, and furrowing; his eyes searching, looking blank, and then fiery; his lips quivering and then steadying - but now he had a sort of blank stare. He sat for a moment, looking everywhere, but not looking at anything. He slowly moved closer to me. Then he looked up at me, and a smile blossomed across his face and he said,
“So... are you going to take Nelson's advice?" Before I could respond, he folded me into his arms, and kissed my forehead very lightly before hugging me for a long time.
Standing there, I could just basque in his scent. I smelled coconut and vanilla on his chest, and then olive oil from his hair. I lightly brushed my fingers over his hair, feeling each coil spring under my fingers, and I smiled into his neck. I could feel him shift his arms around me, and the next moment, I was staring straight into his eyes. Those beautiful eyes. Every time he looked at me, my skin would tingle and a wave of butterflies would be set loose in my stomach.
His fingertips reached my cheek, and he traced the outline of my jaw and he leaned closer and closer to me...
“Michael!" A female voice screeched,
“Where are you!" We looked towards the house, and saw Latoya searching. He separated from me, letting go of my face and waist, and then waved her over. She began to trot towards us, but when she saw me, she became suspicious.
“Um, Michael, I need to talk to you in private."
