I Will Always Love You Chapter: 3
Michael POV
All three of Ms. June's daughters were beautiful. Diya had a strong confidence eminating from her as she greeted us with a hello; Nisha was like a gazelle, graceful when she slightly bowed saying "it's a pleasure to meet you"; and straight away I noticed Kalyani... She exuded a radiance that was irresistible. She pinched the sides of her shorts and said, "well how do you do" curtseying laughably.
Kalyani.
I wondered how her name was spelled? K-A-L-E-E-A-N-E-E? Or C-A-L-L-Y-A-N-Y? I sounded Indian to me. I looked at Kalyani's almond shaped eyes and thick eyebrows. I stared at her through my scarf, just studying her. She had a playful look on her face - listening to her mother expectantly - but then she looked over my way. She seemed to see right through my "disguise" and I turned away out of paranoia. I could feel my body becoming wet with sweat. The scarf was hot, I was beginning to get nervous, my muscles were clenching and I could feel myself on the brink of doing and saying stupid things. I was wondering if she recognized me, but Mother interrupted my thoughts and happily said,
"Very pleased to meet you! I am Katherine, and this is my son Michael," she gestured to me.
"Hi," I said, my throat parched. "Nice to meet you."
Ms. June invited us in, and we took seats in the bare living room. Her daughters walked into the kitchen area and hopped on the counters talking to each other and joking around. Ms. June asked,
"Are you the mother of those singing boys? The Jackson 5? We heard that they live on this street, and we wear their music out!" I was hoping tha mother would find a way out of answering, but she didn't seem to care at all.
"Yes I am, and I am very proud of all of them!" Mother squeezed my hand.
I blushed hard, but no one could see thankfully.
"Thanks mother." I was waiting in anticipation of a flurry of questions and maybe a few screams, but I was surprised that they didn't seem to react at all. There was only an interested, "oh, cool!" that carried over from the kitchen. Conversation just continued regularly, which shocked me even more. They didn't clamor for an autograph, or ask for me to sing, or anything. I felt a wash of relief towards the unfamiliarity of this experience. Possibilities of friendship swam through my mind, and I started to relax in their home.
"So what brings you all to this part of town?" Mother asked.
"We're from D.C. All the way on the better side of the country." Ms. June winked, and my mother smirked at her. She continued,
"My husband, Ravi, and I own comedy clubs and pizzerias along the east coast, and now we moved here to help start up our expansion, and this neighborhood was recommended as a nice quiet place for our girls. It's still close enough to our businesses for our daily commute - and the city for the girl's entertainment. There are also very good schools here. But our favorite part has to be the beach."
"Oh yes! The beach is beautiful, my daughter said that she would live on the beach if she could. That is very nice. Y'know, I've found that it is a wonderful place for my children. What kind of food you serve at your restaurants? We would love to come!"
"Oh, all kinds! It would be a pleasure to have you. It's nice to see some familiar faces on occasion."
"Then it is a plan. I must say, your home is quite beautiful!" Mother said, ogling the high opulent ceilings of the house. Ms. June asked,
"Would you like to see more?"
"That would be very nice." Mother said. They began to walk off but then Ms. June turned around and said,
"Oh, girls why don't you show Michael around the back? And get him some refreshments if he wants."
Kalyani's POV
I slid off of the counter with my sisters. I was still a bit shocked that we saw a member of the Jackson 5 quickly. I made a bet that we wouldn't see them for a few months, and they would probably show up at our comedy house before we saw them on our street. I owed my sisters 5 dollars, but I can't pretend that I wasn't happy that he was here. Michael was actually my favorite, along with Jackie. Their voices just give me chills. I had been to one of their performances and it was almost weird seeing the boy that I saw onstage, right in front of me.
When he wasn't looking, I watched his face under the scarf. Our eyes locked through his sunglasses for a second, but thankfully he looked away, which allowed me to stare at him some more.
It seemed to catch him off guard when none of us screamed after finding out who he was. It made me smile thinking that we were the ones who shocked him, instead of the other way around. Since all of us were used to celebrities frequenting our clubs back East, it dulled the Jackson celebrity effect on us, or any celebrity effect for that matter.
My sisters and I took him on a tour.We walked out to the back yard and the sun was nice and hot. I asked,
"Don't you want to take that scarf off? It's hot and we all know you're Michael Jackson. No need to be incognito anymore." We laughed and he said,
"Yeah, it was kind of a bad disguise anyway..." I agreed in my head because I thought that any true fan could see through it. My sisters whispered to each other, and then got huge smiles on their faces.
"Hey, I need to call someone, do you guys mind if I go?" Nisha said, bursting with excitement.
"Me too, I wasn't finished unpacking." My other sister, Diya, said equally as enthusiastic. Something was up, but I wasn't quite sure what.
"Well I guess I can show him around by myself." I whined, not wanting to be alone.
In unison they said,
"Thanks!" and sped off into the house. I felt shy now that I was alone. I could only imagine how he had felt these past few minutes being by himself with all of us.
"I'm a little shy when I'm by myself..." I said.
"Me too. looks like we have something in common there." He said, offering an understanding smile.
"They run off and leave me because and go talk to their boyfriends or whoever like I don't know. Ah! Continuously, they ditch me." I said in irritation.
"Hahaha! That's what my brothers do to me all the time! I'm always left alone!" Michael laughed.
