- Part 2 -

When the first envelope came on Monday, Grandma was out. She found it when she returned from lunch at the church on the corner. 'Very few people,' she said, 'write in copperplate! I knew at once whose hand it was. It brought a lump to my throat. I thought, who could drop such a precious object on my floor like that? I didn't pick it up for a long time. Then I reached out to touch it, and dropped it with fright. It was a long while til I held it in my hand. '

How? With a mind and heart full of memories, hopes and fears, Grandma decided to sleep on it before opening it.

Making early tea, she saw the postwoman on Tuesday. She checked, found no post, and ambled back into the kitchen, only to hear a rustle in the hallway, where now a second envelope lay. This mimicked the normal delivery. It was deceitful. Grandma shuddered. 'My man would not do that. He wouldn't frighten me like that.'

Grandma decided not to open this one either til she knew more.

Wednesday she kept guard all day. After tea, she and the dog nodded off. A third envelope waited on the mat when she went to bed. It was getting really creepy. Grandma called Crystal, and left a message to come over when she had the time.

Thursday, the neighbour disconnected her dash-cam and obligingly installed it pointing at Grandma's letterbox.

'So?' prompted Crystal. 'Did you get a good look?'

'No letter came.'

'But there are five.'

'Two came together today.'

'Somebody knows what they're doing alright,' Crystal stated, 'and I don't like it.'

'And yet,' said Grandma hesitantly, 'he did promise me, that he would find me.'

Crystal looked unconvinced. 'We need to know what these letters say.'
